This is from My Science Project. The one often seen on Baby is cropped to full screen while this version has more background on the top and bottom (as if it were Super 35). Oddly enough, My Science Project was filmed in Panavision while Baby was filmed in Super 35 so the two somehow got mixed up during the pan and scan phase. Also, Baby looks terrible in full screen since Disney apparently never got an open matte master.
I heard this was used on the first release of "The Nightmare Before Christmas", then they used another logo on the reissue print, then they just slapped on the Disney logo for the Real-D 3D rerelease.
In speaking of "My Science Project", will someon please upload the opening credits of "My Science Project"(with the 1984 Touchstone Films Logo) in 2.35:1 widescreen?
That logo came from "Baby, Secret of the Lost Legend". The second film for Touchstone. The first film "Splash" uses the still logo, but no animation until the second film. The third version that introduced the snake logo for the movie "Down and Out in Beverly Hills".
This logo was probably taken from either "Country", "Baby: Secrets of the Lost Legend", or "My Science Project". Those movies were three of the first four films produced by Touchstone, and were the only films that featured this particular logo. The first film produced by Touchstone, "Splash", featured an earlier version of this logo, in which it was on a motionless pink salmon background. The 2nd (and very familiar logo) didn't start until the release of "Down and Out in Beverly Hills" in 1986.

You heard wrong. The Nightmare Before Christmas was released in 1993, 8 years after this logo was replaced.

In the Splash first version the text and the circle which has that lightning on it are not blue, and it has no animation.

I have that DVD, and indeed, the very first Touchstone Films logo is still intact.

I remember this! It's better than the other one.

Yea, I agree with that. This one has more personality than the flowy scrolling across one.

The other logo you're talking about is nicknamed "The Snake".
