In my opinion Amorphis has 3 periods in their music. Koivusaari's one, Koskinen's one and Joutsen's one. I don't like Pasi Koskinen as a singer (but maybe I didn't listen well) but the first and the third periods are awesome! The First three albums with Tomi Koivusaari's vocals are the only death-metal albums I like! Now Amorphis play the other music, not only death-metal and this music is the best soundtrack for my life!

I can see where your coming from, but I don't really agree that their new stuff is weaker in any way. They're definitely not the same band, and the guitarist, who founded the band, doesn't want it that way. He planned for the band to change styles, experiment, and progress. My personal favorite work by them is with Tomi Joutsen (their new vocalist). I love Elegy and Thousand Lakes as well though. But like I said, I can see where your perspective lies, and it's very understandable

The way I look at it is that I started listening to and loved Amorphis because of the solid melodeath music they used to play and to end up playing normal music that is found just about anywhere is a big disappointment to me and to everybody who thinks like I do. The last thing we needed is another Sentenced.

Oh and yes I strongly believe that their new style is weak compared to their old one.

I´ve been a fan since the old days of The Karelian isthmus up to the present day. The music is not death metal anymore, like it hasnt been for more than ten years, but its far from being "normal music".

You may disagree wtih me, but as much as I like Privilege of Evil, their music has become better written and much more interesting with the years. Metal or not.

Well, Elegy of course is a masterpiece, but all the praise you see about the new Amorphis is because they became good again by adding Tomi Joutsen and by making the Eclipse (2006) album.

In most fans opinion, Amorphis had between Elegy and Eclipse a very weak period of three albums ('Far from the sun' or whatever they are called), while Eclipse reached back to the quality how Amorphis are supposed to be. Still kinda soft, but very good songs again.

It's taken straight from Elias Lönnrot's Kanteletar collection. The Kanteletar, unline Kalevala, doesn't follow a story, and it's just a collection of ancient Finnish poems. This particular one is from the Lempo leskelle menevi poem. If I'm correct this alludes to the belief that it's not really appropriate to re-marry, because your deceased partner is believed to still kinda watch over you.

I found Amorphis on the Talse record too. Borke up with 2 years of relationship because my girl would let me go to see them. But i disagree with you. Amorphis has developed through years. Shure the older albums are more black metal but seriously the new ones have something that every band should find to theyr new music. Great band, great albums. I've just recently scratched the surface of Finnish Metal, and they happen to be well known.

I figured, there had to be more to Finland than...HIM.
