That is "paralelle universe" FROM CALIFORNIACATION. The solo of the album version is completely different but also incredible. Yeah- just like you said- it drives you crazy - that solo is one of my absolutely favorites. I wish i could have been there when he played it live.
I'm not positive, but I think the guitarist at 6:05 and 6:40 is not John, but Hillel Slovak, RHCP original guitarist who died and was replaced by John. I could be wrong though.

My point is you shouldn't go attacking other guitar players, especially ones who play completely different genres of music, just to make a point about how good another musician is. We all love and respect John, but that doesn't mean he's the greatest human ever lol.

Therefore, we need to stop going around giving titles of 'best' or 'greatest'. They are all extremely biased or based on an insufficient amount of evidence. And there will never be a sufficient amount of proof to entitle someone as 'the best'.
So there's no point saying 'lets see yngwie do this'. I think we all know he could play the same melody, maybe not the same tone, or with the same amount of personal distinction, but that is what makes musicians unique, not what makes them better or worse
You need to learn to read between the lines. Obviously "best" is subjective. It would be ridiculous to have to put "in my opinion" before every subjective statement just so people won't get offended. It should be obvious.

ok, it seems i might have been misunderstood. my comments praised the shit out of john frusciante. i said that mayer is ovverated, and that the only guys who come CLOSE in modern day are white and trucks. frusciante's a fucking god.

john frusciante is about as technically gifted as he gets. go to his shows, see the improvisation skills for yourself. the guy rarely plays the same song twice. and when he really wants to, ive seen him take his playing to a pedestal usually reserved for hendrix, page, clapton, satriani, etc. there is genius here. to be honest, i think the only modern day guys who can come close are jack white (and don't bitch about some of his basic riffs. the guy can shred) and derek trucks.

wow. i read some of these comments. all i have to say is, i've never understood where this love for john mayer comes from. i wouldn't put him in the top 20 contemporary electric guitarists. haven't seen a solo of his i couldn't pick up in 15 minutes. frusciante's admitted that he doesn't do the "guitar hero" thing. he doesnt dominate songs, he compliments them. and to the person with the walmart comment, they wouldn't know steve vai, buddy guy, albert lee. does that denounce their genius?

And i'm pretty sure any musically inclined 30 years woman WOULD know who The Red Hot Chili Peppers are (sure everyone knows Beethoven and Hendrix- but they sold themselves as their own names-- The Jimi Hendrix Experience, etc....-- the Chili's aren't called John Frusciante and the Chili Peppers... get what I'm saying?)

But its not called John Frusciante and the Chili Peppers because the entire band is just as talented and just as crucial as him, Anthony Kiedis is an incredible lyricist, and Flea is arguably the best bassist of all time, then Chad brings an awesome element to the band.
Plus Frusciante wasn't part of the original lineup and has only been in 5 of their 9 albums

Though I agree completely with all who put John's name with good intensions, I must comment that Chad Smith and Flea Balzary are the best at their craft... It is undeniable that the group of men that is RHCP are without a shadow of a doubt the best by all means at every feeling they put into the heaven we call Chili Peppers' music. Hunter

When you consider the amazing chemistry between Frusciante, Flea, and Chad-- that's where Frusciante's genius comes into play. He just works so well with the other two, and his work with MOOG effects is pretty remarkable. I think that's why people respect him so much, and consider him one of the most remarkable guitarists of the generation.

Bluesbrother-what specifically about Frusciantes playing do you think makes him overrated? In the last 20 years, I can't think of anyone with a more definitive sound that Frusciante. Sure, Mayer's a beast, but he borrows a TON from Vaughn (he got famous after being signed by an agent who saw him playing in a Stevie Ray cover band-- you can hear it in his vioce too). Frusciante is a musical genious! reason why - Not many guitarists have came up with as many riffs and improvisations. The guy has 7 solo albums (and an 8th one is coming next year) and he still plays with a band as well and other numerous people. And not many people have gone through the same stuff as he has like his fight with heroin which nearly killed him. And guess what? he's still goin even after 20 years and you cant call him a legend or a musical genius?

nope, look he does have some funky ass stuff and he is a kick ass guitar player and he has his own style, but none of that makes him a musical genious, it just makes him creative. musical genious is a bit of a stretch. yea he has written some cool stuff that sounds amazing but i dont think hes a musical genious.... but i dnt think hes legend, if you go to walmart and ask a 30 year old woman who john fruciante is she probably wouldnt know, now if you ask her who beethoven or hendrix

than odds are she will say "yea ive heard of that guy", frusciante is only know within the realm of guitar players or musicians of any kind... now with that said, yea he is a badass and i think its an amazing thing that the kicked his addiction, but people act like he is the BEST to ever pick up the instrument. and hes not. Thats like me being a hugh sherrly crow fan and telling everyone that she is the best picker to play a tele since red volkaart are someting. do u c what i mean now?

hes good guitar player but hes extremely overated, people are comparing him to john mayer and stevie ray vaughan and jimi hendrix and van halen. it makes me sick to my stomach that hes compared to them. just because he plays for a popular rockband and uses distortion doesnt make him good.

Is basicly impossible to call a guitar player as the best ever. That is and it has allways been just a marketing trick to keep the music world going on as a bussines. Music is much more than that, is about creativity, passion and specially make people feel. Hendrix, Clapton, Mayer, they are guitar gods, but under my point of view they are not better or worst than frusciante. Everybody experiments a diferent feeling with a diferent song so, i think nobody can judge whos the best.

no i don't think we should be say it like this, for us, the john frusciante fan's jf means a lot to us, i bet hundreds of thousands guitarrists began playing when they bought an album of the rhcp, and when john plays, you can really feel his emotion and the background of the note he's picking, but nevertheless, john would'nt be john if there was no flea antony or chad, maybe if he did'nt knew them, maybe he wasn't even playing guitar now, rhcp is rhcp but everyone has his own taste..

read the message board on the rolling stones video where he plays with mayer and trucks. there are some extremely biased views on there from people who just dont understand the definition of a "genious". Hendrix, beethoven, mozart, highland are music geniouses not john frusciante. Hes good but hes far from a "musical genious". just go listin to him on the video and see how good he is with real talent. he has no wah or sidtortion on the video and he sounds sloppy

but atleast you can hear what eddie is playing. first you have to go back and look at what a "good guitar player" is. a good guitar player can play anything and isnt handicapped when it comes to other music genres. He only sounds good with a wah pedal and distortian, there is nothing in this guy that i havent already heard from hendrix or zep.

hes the most creative and diverse MUSICIAN of our generation. much better than john mayer, while he's an awesome blues guitar player he is in no way any type of frusciante. SRV was on another level no one can emulate his vlues. the way hes going now hes gonna be up there with hendrix
