Steve Vai didnt leave officially. Im not saying that he wouldnt have done, but his album passion and wafare did fantastically well and he thought that he could do better out of a career in instrumental music. Coverdale actually broke whitesnake up in 1991 after this tour for the first time since 1977. If Vais album had flopped, im sure he would have carried on with the snake for the next album/tour if dc wanted him to.

I love Vai's equivocating here: 'alleged press statement'; 'total rumours'. So you're not saying it's not true then Stevie?

Truth is, everyone involved knew well in advance that Vai's involvement with Whitesnake would end at the end of that tour. The pretend unity is made even more insincere because of that fact.

I seem to remember Coverdale continuing the pretense during the show - going on about how Vai was going nowhere. Yeah, right.

Vai actually was not planning to contunue with any band after Lee Roth,he wanted to start solo carier rugth away but something changed..i don't know...i guess they offered hi good pack:) Unfortunately,he is lying here..and long time after the end of this union Vai wasn't glad to recall that period...something was happening within the band...i dont know,i guess Coverdale thought too much of him self,those individuals in the band couldn't stand this shit

Coverdale doesn't look that selfish to me... but you never know. Too bad anyway, Slip of the Tongue was an incredible album, as impressive as Trouble. It may have beem followed by another incredible album. Or maybe not? :) Anyway, it warms my heart to see them together. Two of my favourite people in the world.
