  • Great video Mike :) Will hopefully be seeing you at the GC this weekend? Is the location at 6.11 publicly accessible? Thanks, all the best.

  • @SteamTeen

Thanks Lewis. The location is in a field near Quorn. You get there either (i) by crossing the railway on the footpath from Woodthorpe village at the occupation bridge and walking on the east side of the line to the 2nd hedge, or (ii) via the gate to the north of Quorn Manor near the station. If you look on Google earth, it is the triangular field next to the playing fields. The farmer is NOT friendly!

I'll look forward to bumping into you!

  • @steamontheweb Cheers mate :D Thanks for the info...hopefully be able to get there in the morning when the sun should be in the right place :D See you soon mate

  • hey mike joe here, seems you had better weather (slightly) than i had on new years day, only difference really beteween our visits i dont recall 46521 at front of shed. ill probs see you at the winter gala

  • Another excellent video that really captures the 'feel' of the GCR. There is something quite unique about it, that really makes it look 'right'.

Perhaps it is the slight shabbiness, but I feel that I'm being very unfair by saying that. It's probably the double track scale of it. Even with the rather iffy livery selection on 5526's train it still looks right, and as ever you've captured it to perfection. If only you'd had a Sony Digital Camcorder in the 50s and 60s!

  • @edwardianeccentric

Thanks. If I had I would not have been old enough to use it! I think the atmosphere of the GC is created mainly by the double-track and the infrastructure.

  • Great shots there. What camera do you use? Would there be a possibility of either putting a little bit of a comentry about where the shots are or some titles to help work out where they were taken along the line? I liked how you kept the shot going so we could see the whole train and not just the loco. (I'm a carriage nut myself- he, he, he.) Great stuff keep up the good work. I must visit the GCR some time. It was where I started volunteering!

  • @alanlmsca

Thanks. I try to show the whole train if I can. I use a Sony HDV Z5E. I try to show where the shots are taken in the narrative. I shall think about it, but placing captions on each clip is a little tedious and commentary is out of the question!

  • @steamontheweb Looks like a mighty grand camera. It cetanly delivers the picture quality. Nothing like a zoomed in shot looking down the line with the train heading for you! I know what you mean about commentary. I've had a go myself. You can check out "LMS 8F, 8624, First Day In Service." on You Tube to see my effort! The 8F should be gracing the GCR soon. Must try and get down to see her.

  • Most enjoyable Mike, as Bob says, some interesting new locations. The Prairie looks very much at home. Your video has whetted the appetite for the Gala

  • @acw71000

Thanks Austin. The Prairie will be on the auto this weekend, as it will be for the Gala, so a chance for some more shots away from the pressure of the Gala timetable!

  • Some new locations that time Mike, which gave the video a new feel to it....excellent as always......Bob

  • @robmasterman

Hi Bob, yes we have not had many north facing locos recently so, despite the inconvenience of long gaps and no action followed by two trains in close order it was a pleasant change. Obtaining shots from new locations on lines you visit regularly is not easy!

  • Hi mike, met you at kinchley lane and at loughbrough on monday, great shots as always. See you at the gala.

  • @coalshovle

Thanks. Waiting for some footage from your model railway. See if it fools us all!

  • @steamontheweb i,ll try, watch this space!

  • This is a very good video ! I like GCR locomotives.

    Thank you.

  • @rokutetsu

    Thanks

  • They seem to be collecting Great Western engines on loan. A very wise choice, if I may say so. Black seems to suit them, heretical as it may seem.

  • @AndreiTupolev

The GC has been short of GWR engined for a few years. The Winter Gala at the end of the month has a Banbury theme. Black is fine for goods engines and tanks, but not so good for express engines.

  • Wonderfull footage i filmed on the same day at the GCR at Quorn and Loughborogh Stations and a bit of the sheds its on youtube now.

Once again wonderfull footage loved the shed shots aswell

    Regards JamesandPeter

  • @JamesandPeter

Thanks. You arrived at the sheds well before we did. We missed 5526 being prepped

  • @steamontheweb Thanks wondered were the 3F was because there was soo much out on display but your video cleared that up for me thank you

  • Lovely video.

  • @iantrack

    Thanks

  • Great video, where about is the final shot filmed?

    Cheers, Lewis

  • @SteamTeen

Thanks Lewis. The field is about 500 yards north of Quorn station opposite the 2nd of the over-bridges. Although access is easiest from the lineside, you can also access the field from the footpath that crosses the line on the bridge just south of the larger bridge which takes the Epinal Way over the line. Unfortunately the field itself is not on a public right of way.

  • @steamontheweb Thank you, might try that out for the Winter Gala :)

    Lewis

  • Great video, nice to see 3850s repaint is coming on nicely. Some great shots in there including 5526 getting away from Rothley and that field in which you saw 5526 and 45305, is this easy to reach from a station?

  • @JBTEvans

Thanks. We don't often have north facing engines these days. The field is 500 yards up the line north of Quorn station
