  • I really Like Filipino Martial Arts even i'm from Japan

  • Dan knows more in his finger that most MA's! Great man and teacher! If all of us were like him the world would be a lot better! I was lucky enough to train with him at ST6 and he is a very humble man and patient teacher.

  • Arnis of the 50s: French Documentary search this, youll see real arnis fma fight.

  • Bruce Lee's successor.

  • Dan Insanto is so O.G. when it comes to the fighting stuff I wish I could meet him just once. Wish I could train with him or anyone of his calilaber. I hope I could be in good shape like that if I get to be his age.

  • KALI - THE COMPLETE SYSTEM . PERIOD.

  • Comment removed

  • @Eso1

I think Tracy's Kenpo + Kajukenbo + Kali and enough Jiu Jitsu to choke people out is the complete system.

Of those, however, Kali is the most fun to do in my opinion.

  • @Eso1 Agreed.

  • You the man Dan.

  • i have traind with mr.inosanto and if you diddnt know who he was you would never guess lol.

very down to earth and very nice, also could kill you very easy lol.

  • He first got his black belt in bjj under the machados in 3 years logging hundreds of private hours!

  • this guy got his black belt in gracie jiu jitsu in 8 years when he was 68. in all that time he only missed 3 classes. that is what dedication does for a person

  • "Hi, I'm Dan Inosanto and I can kick your ass."

    he's such a cool guy.

  • i'm beginning to think Kali would be good in an unarmed street fight

  • He didn't say very much.

  • ryaedinburgh

    youtube channel

  • awesome

  • 11 people aren't fans of funky disco music

  • the submission move in 0:44 works well, with a stick, but I don't see it applicable if you have bolos instead...great video anyway... Mabuhay po kayo Guro Dan Inosanto

  • What's so funny... is that while i was admiring Bruce Lee, my instructor was admiring Inosanto. Bruce Lee was smart to have Danny as one of students and friends and teacher. All of us really are both students and teachers at the same time.

  • Dan Inosanto eh fda!!!

  • i wish i could be trained by dan...

  • Scary skill when he closes down the distances. He goes from long range to stand up grappling in a heartbeat!!

Love and respect to Guro as always

  • this dude got picked by bruce lee to carry on jeet kune do

  • SHARKYS MACHINE!!!

  • SHARKYS MACINE!!!

  • Inosanto è Inosanto...

  • why is bruce lee not mentioned here

  • @UreMy9jai because its filipino kali and not jkd of bruce lee

  • @UreMy9jai LOL ikr if it wasnt for bruce lee this guy wouldnt be nothing lol

  • @fishpig20 And if it wasn't for that hooker your dad met in Tiuana, you wouldn't be nothing.

  • @1Shiznit HAAHHA u can say that behind a screen but I dare u to say it to my face u little pussy rofl

  • @fishpig20 Whatever. You're all talk you little girl. Go cry your ugly self to sleep... again.

  • @1Shiznit I'm all talk when your the 1 trying to insult me behind a screen?

  • @fishpig20 What do you mean "trying"? I don't need to be face to face to insult you. That's too easy and nothing more than a keyboard is neccissary.

  • @1Shiznit Yes your trying its really not working lol and it would help if you could spell 'necessary' idiot

  • @fishpig20 Ahhh... yet anotyher internet spelling nazi. That's a new one. Whatever makes you happy little girl.

  • @1Shiznit ooo racist as well haha well your certainly showing everyone how ignorant you are, for the record i'm not german and please stop crying over youtube lmao

  • @fishpig20 You just can't let it go can you? "Spelling Nazi" has nothing to do with racism you ignorant imbicile. Geez how long have you been using the internet girl? Maybe posting online is not for you. Just walk away and admit defeat. Shouldn't be anything new to you. Dissapointment probably comes on a daily basis for a crybaby like you anyhow. One would think you could handle it better. I blame your sorry excuses for parents for what you've become. tsk tsk

  • @1Shiznit lmao writing your silly little essays just makes you like an idiot, actually carry on it's quite amusing

  • @fishpig20 hush now little girl. I'm all done with you. You'll be ok.

  • @1Shiznit Your rock hard behind a screen arnt you lol.

  • Wow. Inosanto must be in his 70s now. He can still move!

  • I have alot of admiration for all these great teachers willing to share their knowledge through the internet

  • This man knows his art SOOOOOO well!

  • check it kalisticks4less

  • Lol

  • OMG when the music came on my buddy's parents came in and thought I was watching porn on their computer lOL

  • @Aonghus117

Upon hearing the music you were talking about in that Kali video I laughed my ass off..lol

I can see where someone would think it was a porn.

  • A living legend, & his daughter is fine too.

  • Its Fight Quest where they Fight the marines

  • i saw a show on NED that showed tow guys fighting two Filipino Marines. Anybody know where I can find actual Kali stick fights?

  • one thing i hate Filipinos is that they much support foreign martial arts from korea ,japan ,china than their own martial arts in the philippines i hate the fact that is far many taekwando schools than escrima or kali schools

  • @LacunaForzakin

Im an american living in the philippines and I agree 100% there isnt enough filipino martial arts going around. Its a fantastic style that in my opinion supercedes the arts of karate and Tae Kwon Do, Which are really the only martial arts schools you can find in relative abundance here. Sad really. :(

  • - kinda agree w/ u.. though they teach us a bit of arnis in highschool but it wasnt enough. I hope to see FMA as a required or elective subject in schools in near future...

  • @velequest I think u gotta go out to the provinces more to see the real martial arts.

Karate and Taekwondo schools here are not really martial arts but sports and a business.

problem in the Phils is, if it can't make money, there's not enough people who wanna do it

  • @LacunaForzakin Please check "The Bladed Hand" clip. Your comment is one reason we are doing the documentary...to bolster cultural pride and awareness in our own arts.

  • It's good to see Sifu Inosanto here on YouTube !!!

Inosanto was a friend, instructor and confidant to the late Bruce Lee. Inosanto was crucial to the development of JKD. He also use to be one of the only authentic licenced JKD instructors at the time of Bruce Lee's death.

Inosanto's contribution to the refinment of JKD

stems from Kali and ESKRIMA it was a blessing to us all that Bruce Lee trained along side The KALI and ESKRIMA MASTER DANNY INOSANTO that conection birthed JKD! peace

  • FOR THE IDIOTS on this post. DANNY INOSANTO was former 101st airborne, trained with so many great masters, grandmasters of many arts. He even learned from the great late LEROY GIRON who fought samurais in the imperial japanese in WW2 as a U.S. soldier using kali/eskrima which was used by filipino guerrilla fighters and scouts like my dad and also trained U.S.soldiers and marines how to fight the japanese in close quarters using ESKRIMA. my dad told me back then IT WAS SECRET.Inosanto is great

  • @asianfighter62 I had read that Dan Inosato had been in the 101st Airborne, and that he had trained with many of the great Filipino martial artists, and if I'm not mistaken an Inosanto also had someone that he would call Uncle( which was just a friend of his family) that first introduced him to the Filipino martial arts.. I think Bruce Lee knew what he was doing when he selected to train and learn from Dan Inosanto.

  • the "string Trick" as some1 said is an old boxing drill. nice one, cheap too...just run any type of rope etc. about shoulder high...good for movement and footwork

  • I just spent my weekend at one of his seminars. For those who think he's bunk, man up and come to one. Make a judgement then... The video never even claims to be JKD. Learn to read.

  • My pal Este, said he took part in a UK, seminar with this Instructor, claimed very solid stuff. What is that 'lock'? Gives me some cool training ideas. :-) Rate=+7

  • Dan is the man. Not many like him in the world.

  • i like this technique shadowboxing with the string or whatever it is he's doing looks good

  • it's good training. i've done a little of that with the string in kickboxing (which was pretty much full contact karate).

  • I don't think you can honestly learn JKD from videos.. or from the fact that it's never been entirely created, as it's been taught by others and not by Bruce to the majority

  • It's FMA

  • Dan is a proud JKD instructor. But even still, learning ANY martial art even Kali or Eskrima or whatever, is not realy a good way to learn. Personally you need to actually go out and do it.

  • I agree on that point. I was just pointing out that the focus of the video is Kali. I'm aware of the fact that Inosanto is the reason for all of the JKD, TKD, and Karate practitioners cross training with the sticks. I do it as well.

  • I saw another video of his where he was instructing JKD. I must've mixed the two up. But oh well, my same point remains :)

  • lmao he looks like a dude with a filipino accent but when you hear him talk you'll be so suprised that he doesn't

  • he is good

  • This is not jeet kune do. Just kali

  • unwawbl, thats right look the title of the video....

  • apart from being just super skilled,he seems like such a nice man.

    Thanks for the clip.

(wish it was A LOT longer)

    : )

  • dan inosanto is a legend, i think thats rick young is in this clip as well.

  • the escrima sticks represent short swors ,or long knives and are used for training. I thought it would be beneficial to state this for those who may not know, however they are good weapons in their own right and surely able to split a wig if needs be. Dan is the man with the big chop sticks!

  • i train under dan inosanto he is nice i like him he lives in texas currently

  • Yeah, I trained with Rick Faye for a few years and did 1 seminar with Dan Inosanto. Rick mentioned something about how Dan can go to a fancy suit and tie restaurant wearing sweats and still be the classiest guy there. If you live near Dan or Rick, you won't find a better martial artist to train with

  • THE MAN....UTMOST RESPECT FOR HIM

  • stockton!

  • lapu-lapu is the master of kali

    he killed magellan

  • Truly a legend. And I believe that was Eric Paulson in there too.

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • and at 0:34

  • whoa dude he looks so hard at 0:24

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!!

  • great tech, do you have a training camp?

  • interest in a training camp

  • jahoo ooo!

  • Whoa Dan Inosanto, Rick Young and Erik Paulson in opne video, cramming in the talent.

  • Yaw Yan short for saYaw ng kamataYan or dance of death is the philippine Kickboxing.Promote this FMA so it get more popular in our country.

  • and the other guy is Rick Young from Edinburgh. The guy is amazing too

  • I've been to one of rick's seminars. He's awesome and a really cool guy.

  • He trained Tommy ...

  • who is the guy in the 29 second of the clip with dan?

    thank u

  • He is Erik Paulson. Well known for Combat Submission Wrestling. He has sick grappling skills.

  • Comment removed

  • i used to train in jkd & kali, and since then nothing even compares to the level of training that was put up by bob breen & guru dan inosanto, greatest martial artists in the world...

  • the guy thats being used to demonstrate on is rick young, hes an ex BJJ world champ, he was over in belfast this year to take a BJJ and MMA seminar, hes a very talanted guy

  • i admire guru dan innosanto since 1980s the book he wrote,(jeetkunedo the art and philosopy of bruc lee)gave me so much ideas about what is fil.art & jkd really is,and magazines during those times gave me so much info about guru dan,ty sifu dan for being my imaginary sifu, cuz i cant be ur student personally,im just a poor man here in phils,& i cant go there tomeet you personally.

  • u are a retard

  • :53 was crazy

  • awesome clip...love the 70s porno music

  • Guru Inosanto. An amazing man. So talented, yet so humble and friendly. He truly embodies the spirit of a legendary martial artist.

  • I hope I look that good doing ANYthing at 69 yrs. young!

  • They taught each other things. Dan did influence bruce to use nunchakus and kali. You know Ed Parker gave Bruce some pointers as well. Don't get it twisted, Bruce was always picking up new things and learning more so than teaching.

  • I want him to be my master!

  • This man is also a living LEGEND!

  • He taught Bruce Lee escrima

  • Dan"The Legend" Inosanto

  • Would Dan Inosanto destroy Gary Lam?

  • is that Rick Young Dans with? also i met him when i was a small boy my mum has a pic with him its one her prized possessions.

    peace.

  • Isn't it true that kali was used in so called "death matches" in the Philippines I think. In fact I think I read that some of Dans teachers were actually in those matches. Now it does not get more real than that now does it.

  • they're just competitions

  • Dan mentions those "matches" in the Joe lewis book on JKD.

  • this is a pretty good vid!

on a random note, has anyone ever seen guro dan inosanto do an interview in tagalog?

  • hell yeah the best martial art ever... beats all those wannabe white trash faggots

  • didn't he trained with Bruce Lee

  • yes he did, and certified instructor of whatever lee's club was.

  • is it true that he beat bruce lee in a sparring match?

  • Dans still awesome.

  • man what the fuck???? ....He WAS TRAINED BY BRUCE LEE!!!!!!

  • can't a student beat (or be better) than the master? i'm saying he is better anyway. i just asked if he defeated bruce in a sparring match. i have heard about this a long time back.

  • bruce lee was a just a human being and yes he lose a fights too..

  • You're trying to compare someone who has lived and progressed martial arts almost 30 years after the death of bruce lee. Don't you think if bruce was still alive to this day, he would have kept learning JUST like Dan? Bruce was incredibly advanced for the stuff he did back in the 70's, he would be just that much better if he was still alive. Bruce showed dan Jeet kune do, and Dan showed bruce kali.

  • usualy students can be better (after a long time than the master) but tha happens when the master get older . BRUCE LEE DIE YOUNG.

  • Yep. Inosanto was in attendance when Lee gave his now-legendary JKD demo at the Long Beach International Karate Championships in '64. So impressed/dazzled was he that he hooked up with Bruce shortly thereafter and trained with him until his death. Inosanto is one of only three people personally certified by Bruce to teach JKD., and at present is the only one I know of that is still active in both training and teaching (another, Jerry Poteet, hung up his spurs recently, dunno about #3)

  • @usergreg1498 Taky Kimura and Ted Wong, I think

  • just to think that this man is a student of bruce lee makes you think just how strong bruce lee really is...

  • bruce lee was his student also in escrima.

  • this is awesome altho the music could easily convince anyone that he is also a detective that fights the crime and injustice of the streets of new york.

  • hav some bruce shadow

  • 0:45

    NOT ALLOWED in the UFC.

    =)~

  • Guro Dan could still kick your ass.

  • from my understanding of the philosophy behind kali training, why we start out with weapons has to do with the "flow" of kali. you train with the different types of weapons first then move to empty hands training which has the same "flow" of the weapons. only difference is that since you're unarmed you can move twice as fast since nothing's weighing down your hands. in essence your empty hands, feet and mind become your weapons because of kali's flowing training method.

  • open3rdeye, in kali you learn the weapon aspects first to build up familiarity, fluidity, offense and defense with the movements and techniques of kali. once you do, you move on from the longer weapons to shorter ones then to empty hand, kicks and grappling. the goal of kali is to be effective and deadly w/o a weapon. that's why you train in weapons first when you're a novice. if anything, the one you have to be worried about is a kaliman who is unarmed. just relax and keep an open mind man..

  • Well said lavatun. I was pointing out the fact that you can't engage someone in combat without assuming they have a weapon - of any sort. That is why Kali and Silat employ kidney slaps and various other slaps to body parts. It has a two fold function - to shock and missdirect but to also check for weapons. I always assume my opponent has a weapon. I'm highly skilled in Kali and Silat still, I always have my weapon.

  • tigas magpugay po magussupreme, i also trained in kali. how long have you trained?

  • No dissrepect po lavatun, that is just my nature. Even my teachers tell me that my energy is aggressive. I am not a martial arts idiot looking to prove myself, quite the contrary - I am a fun loving free spirit, but when it comes to combat... I've been in real world situations and have come out virtually unscathed because of my training. In some cases more than one opponent. I also have a slight handicap that could prove detrimental to me in a fight, so - I can't afford play around.

  • I have trained for 8 years in these systems: Lacoste, Illustrissimo (Tatang), Pekiti Tirsia, Balintawak (Bobby Toboada), and Lameco (E. Sulite) , and a few concepts from Modern Arnis (Remy Presas). One of my punung guros is Guro Dan Inosanto who I train with at least three times a year and attend his Legends conference in June. Ingat ka po lavatun.

  • sweet.. you're lucky man, you got to train with the greats. my master is ike villaflores, a friend of cacoy canete. he also teaches muay thai and according to him he's been training since he was 10 i think. the scary thing about true martial arts masters is that they really look unassuming until they teach. master ike's not a big guy (5'7) but he's still fast and strong but also one of the friendliest persons i've ever met and have had the good fortune to train under. by the way, are you pinoy?

  • LOL! No on two fronts - First, no, I haven't trained with all of these masters, I train in their systems. GOD I wish I could have trained with Tatang and Edgar Sulite! I do train with Guro Dan Inosanto. My teacher trains with GM Bobby Toboada. He goes to the Fiilipines often and always invites us. One of my girlfriends father is GM Robert Castro who trained with Angel Cabalas and other great masters. We're taught the philosophy and history of the systems along with Fiilipino history.

  • ...and second, no, I am not Pinoy but I can decipher a little Tagalog. LOL! What dialect do you use? I looked up your master, pretty impressive. The name Villaflores is a well respected name in the history of the art. My school is small but filled with devoted fanatics of the art. Funny thing, my master is also short, like 5'1. He has no problem taking down our biggest student (6'6 230lbs+) with ease. We need to talk. I'll hit you on your page soon. Kapayapaan kapatid na lalaki lavatun.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm a leyteno, a pinoy from the island of leyte. we use a hybrid dialect of cebuano and bol-anon(bohol dialect) i trained under master ike in dumaguete, negros oriental. sticks, knives, palm spikes, a little empty hand and a little grappling was where i got. i hope to learn everything master ike can teach me. by the way, did you also learn hilot? filipino massage therapy was also part of kali in the olden days according to master ike.

  • Hmm... Judging from the name of the system you train in, "Negros Oriental" I'd say you live in the southern Fiilipines - the part of your country that was never conquered. If that's true, then that means you're "my cousin from my mother's sister's husband" since the translation of "Negros Oriental" would be "black man with almond eyes" LOL! And Hilot??? OMG! Grand Master Sam Tendencia!!! That's my next step. The wise ones say "If you know how to hurt, you must also know how to heal."

  • dumaguete, negros oriental is in the west actually and leyte my home island is in the east. the southern part of the philippines you mentioned is mindanao, the island that the spanish didn't conquer thanks to the moros(muslim filipinos) the system master ike trains me in actually has no name, he he he. it's a blend of different styles of kali but it's still effective though and flowing as kali should be.

  • Wow. The system that has no name - that's hot!

  • master ike didn't give it a name since he thought it wasn't as important as the practice of the art itself and the fact that it's an amalgamation of different styles of kali. he doesn't teach for the purpose of being well-known, he teaches coz he loves to teach. good Lord man, he charges P30 per month for lessons, that's ridiculously cheap. plus he makes and sells kali sticks and palm sticks for P80 and P40 respectively so that students won't be hassled in finding their own sticks.

  • "The system that has no name" I like the sound of that, I'm not making fun of it. It makes your system sound mysterious. It's good to talk to a fellow brother in the arts who lives in the Phiilipines. You have a point of view that we don't have here in the states. I hope to learn much from you.

  • i know you're not making fun of it, just wanted to explain why it has no name. kinda wish that it did have a name so that more people would be interested in learning under master ike. you're still lucky man, you get to train under guro dan inosanto himself, that's really cool. have you by any chance trained under grand tuhon leo t. gaje as well?

  • Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje??? I WISH!

  • A friend of mine picked Mr. Inosanto up at the airport for a demo at his school, Mr. Inosanto insisted carrying his own bags and never once insisted to be treated better than anyone else. He shows what being a true Master is all about. There is a saying, "You can't lead where you don't go." Mr Inosanto shows the way for many folks in and out of the martial arts world. After almost 30 years in the martial arts, I am still amazed by his example. With respect.

  • I have heard similar stuff like that about Dan Inosanto.

  • Well then, that settles it, mr. blow jjob. A blue belt, ya say. WOW I'm impressed! lol

If you knew anything about Kali you'd know that the sticks are a part of the starting point, (not to mention finishing and advanced). One aspect as it were. He wouldn't NEED the sticks. And yes, I have trained both Kali and BJJ.

Both styles are excellent. Both are necessary, in conjunction with boxing and kicking. Tell us, do you enjoy going to the ground with an attacker Or do you just like the mount/ed ;)

  • You also have no honor. You give BJJ and its practitioners a bad name. I sincerely hope Master Machado does not come across your comments for your sake.

  • haha what's he gonna do? go fuck yourself gay uncle

  • tsk tsk...people who make "gay" comments are typically behind the closet! lol

  • Do you know that Guro Inosanto also has a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt? Directly from Rigan Machado... and while training, he never missed a SINGLE class. So don't even try to make a claim about one of the nicest and wisest martial artist on the planet.

  • He's got extremely fast arm work
