Yep, CNW units #8646 and #8701are still in CNW paint and numbers, no patches. And they will remain that way, UP even did some touch-up paint work on those two. They will be donated to a museum when retired.
Those damn boxes... they're all over Lake County, IL too... ain't nothing as good as the real thing. Funny thing - the first time one of those boxes went off it confused me and I slammed on the brakes thinking the gates were broken & I was going to get hit. Scared the crap out of me & the Camaro!!!

This is in Ames, Ia (Were Iowa State University is Located) and it is on Union Pacific's Overland Route. This part of the Route used to belong to the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad until UP bought them back in '95
The street is Kellogg Ave, but if you go one street west (Clark Ave) there is an old C&NW passenger train station. Though it closed over 40 years ago it is stilled used as a strip mall.
yea, my railroading spot in washington got destroyed, (Tacoma) they installed the "X" shit and the fucking-dueschbag-piece of shit on the fuck pole! Fuck you stupid ass people that complain of the fucking horn! It takes out the fun in railfanning and isnt as safe!
Those are actually part of a railroad quiting and safety project. The project is called Manhattan Project and it is to cut down noise levels from the trains and also provide a safer crossing. According to research data "people are less likely to drive around gates if the hear that the train horn is close". For those of you who hate these you can blame the Ames Lab, Ames Police, Ames Public Works, Iowa Department of Transportation, Union Pacific, and Iowa State for it.
My town got rid of horns all together! We have two railroads that go through our town the BNSF, CP Rail (SOO Line) and Amtrak which has trackage rights on the CP. No horns are allowed on the BNSF part of the line. Which sucks. The only time they can do it is on the Main Street crossing to warn golfers of an oncoming train (there are fairways and greens on both sides of the tracks and RR crossings for golf carts)Though sometimes they do blow it for me while I'm railfaning!

It was installed to quite the horns of the trains so they don't wake up the neighborhood when they come through. Basically it is just a speaker mounted to a pole that makes somewhat of a train sound, and will keep sounding until the train comes to the crossing.
CNW 8646 was at Chicago's Proviso repair shop. She was suppose to goto the headquarters repair and emerge a UP engine but Proviso took care of her and she remains CNW. UP is in talks of keeping the last two or renumbering them. There is also talks of them bringing back a Dash 9 or two, possibly one of the Operation Lifesaver Engines.
where did you hear this? i sure hope if anything gets brought back, it'll be an SD40-2 or a C40-8. something with a spartan cab. i cant see them bringing back more -9s when there are 2 out there
the twins are not dash 9's (but are that is an easy mistake) they are GE AC4400CW's, but yea an SD40-2 would be nice. I heard this information through another person so it could be wrong, but most importantly i hope they keep the twins.
i suggest checking a roster. those are C44-9Ws. AC4400CWs have a huge inverter block walkway on the conductor's side. and all of CNW's AC4400CWs were painted with the OLS. i would question how credible the person who told you this is

it sounds terrible indeed. and about the AC4400CWs. if you look, you can still find patched ones. they're all numbered UP 67XX. the X's varying
