@aymiderham i had tragically lost my daughter just prior to singing this, and thought of the song as a sort of prayer, a need to see the place where she died. i have since been there, visited the location - a very positive experience. thank you so much for commenting :-)
@aymiderham thank you, aymiderham. my condolences to you concerning your nan. losing a close family member, or anyone you are very fond of, is probably the hardest of all sorrows. one rarely gets over the loss, but rather learns to live with it. take care, you too :-)
This is the first time i have heard this song...I was waiting for some sort of right or ' special' time when I felt relaxed and at peace to take in a new song from Leonard. Listening to your music for the last hour or so has brought me to the place where I was ready...and you sang it...which was absolutely fine...how touching a song...and how touching an experience.Thank you Geoffrey for bringing such gentleness into my night..
@sweetgypsywife thank you, sweetgypsywife, for such a positive and uplifting response. yes, i too thought the atmosphere around leonard's song to be so unbelievably touching - both lyrics and melody. my poor effort comes nowhere near to the original, but it was sung in the night, as a sort of self-therapy, a way to conquer the heaviness of mourning, a way to paddle safely to the shore of the following day. -geoffrey
@aymiderham well, i believe him to be a very positive and forgiving sort of gentleman, so it would in any case be a seldom occurrence to hear of any criticism from him.
@coolcohen100 Mr Cohen is known to have a generous heart, there is much warmth radiating from his work. therefore i am hoping, should he one day stumble upon this effort, that he will be forgiving for the liberty i have taken with his song.
@Lazariuk hi jack! well, after recent events it was not difficult to sing this song 'true' - especially in the middle of the night. take care old friend; it's good to know you are here.
Lovely voice in this one too :)

It would be wonderful and fitting if Leonard incorporated your poignant verse when he sings his song.
