  • why would you ever put mayonnaise on a steak especially one like that..

  • @pyro51090 o god and I just realized its on a hotdog bun..lmfao

  • you know i like my meat sexy! :D lol

  • The moment I saw the marbling...

  • Chef John...I always love your videos. :) This time I have a question, Its also probably a silly one. Besides highschool classes, Ive never had any "food education". I was wondering Why do Chefs let steaks rest? They all do it. I was just curious about what letting it rest actually does. :) Thanks sir! And thank you for all you contribute to us food lovers!

  • @Stormclouds777 when you cook meat you build pressure up, all the fibers tighten up as they cook. Resting the steak allows for this pressure to disappear naturally as so to keep the juices inside the meat. If you cut a piece of steak right after cooking you'll notice it'll "pee" everywhere and will lose color. All the juices get released because of the pressure. If you let your meat rest and THEN cut it all the yumy juices will be nicely trapped inside :) that's what I was taught, hope it helped

  • @ShadowGM Thank you very much! It definitely makes more sense now. :)

  • Sometimes when I get sad, I just watch this.

  • I seriously can't believe you ruined that delicious meat with that disgusting substance called mayonnaise.

  • I was a gonna say that's an awfully sexy looking piece of meat.

  • I suggest using a basil aioli instead of mayonnaise. :)

  • its official, you are my favorite chef

  • Outstanding, except for the black pepper on the steak. That black pepper could burn and turn bitter, so I'd add the pepper after grilling those delicious looking steakages.

  • @Wxue89 ditto

  • Chef John you why I love you, its your friendly voice that says you are everyone's friend, the background music which is so inviting and relaxing. But as equally important your cooking, you do such a great job making everything look easy even though your cooking is very gourmet. Keep up the GrEAT WoRK.

  • Hi chef john, i always remove the ends from my enoki and shimeji mushrooms because i feel they give off a similar to kerosene smell. The first time i made enoki and shimeji mushrooms, i didnt remove the ends and i sauteed them and there was extremely sharp kerosene like taste. It wasnt very pleasant. Just my 2cents.

  • and for the record, those mushrooms are "shimeji"

  • being a chef for a living, i'm often discouraged from cooking when i get home as "i'm working when clocked out" sorta, ya know? however, every time i watch your videos i'm instantly inspired to do all sorts of stuff and end up spending all my days off slaving away in my kitchen! YESSSS!!!!

  • @bowley4 it is your job yet your hobby and talent? Why would you feel tired on what you actually be good at and passionate about!! Hope your share more good food to your customer :)

  • @felixlaw yes, it's just hard to come home from a 12-hour day of tediously pouring sweat making dishes for people, then get home from that and prepare yourself an intense/expensive meal at 1am! hahaha if cooking for others, a get-together/party, it's great and fine and i love it, but it's hard to do it merely for yourself is all!

  • hardcore food porn...

  • @Kugeliz totally.

  • @Kugeliz YES, INDEED!!!!

  • Shimeji mushrooms. They're in every super market in Japan, and in not a single one near me.
