if you do have rust like that - and dont want to cut it out and want to slow the spread, wash it really good and coat it in engine oil, 80-90 will last much longer

there are 2 camps when it comes to protecting metal in the car world- prime and paint and - undercoating, rubberized is great protection on brand new cars, but on old cars it can make the problem worse b/c if rust has already started and you spray this on it can trap it and make it eat the good metal away faster. With priming and paint it also protects the metal but if rust starts under paint it will bubble up and you can see the failure, rubberized- will not bubble up and hide it much longer.
