Fantastic, as you say it's mostly in the way he presents it, timing, working the audience, pausing so as not to kill the laughs, and varying the speed and pitch.
Amazing rare talent and no-one else now who can do this.
Foster Brooks is golden! Its not so much the material he presents as the way he does it. The over-the-top drunk delivery is priceless. The stammering and stuttering get me every time. I laugh so hard at these clips I'm crying.... just like Deano is....
To me,it doesn't matter if the responses were staged. Few things on television are truly impromptue. This was entertainment of the highest order, and it makes me laugh even today.
One thing that makes me laugh more at Foster is when I remember, that he never actually drank. He was a tetotaler, meaning he never drank at all. Story goes that one time he got pulled over and arrested for DUI when he was stone cold sober.
My father used to yet me stay up late and watch these roasts....foster brooks was always the best..... when he came on my dad and I would laugh till we cried.
this guy was at alot of roasts and killed it everytime ...good decision to have him as regular...you could make a dvd of just him at these roasts and make a lot of money..
he obviously didnt get enough credit, as i only recently discovered him.
As a first generation Indian, I got to say I adore Don Rickles and the comedy of today. Dane Cook and Lisa Lampanelli make me wish I was born a few years earlier.
A handsome, captivating man. He has the audience in the palm of his hands every time I see him. I think his gentlemanly demeanor wins the day, and his self deprecating humour is a trump card. I would have loved to have seen him in lots of Hollywood movies, he sure had the makings of a man who did so much, yet hid his fire under a bushel.
I am 25 years old, but grew up watching "old" movies and things like this. I feel that I am the better for it and that so very many people my age have missed out on humor, talent, and a sense of propriety and discretion that I have been privileged to have been exposed to! They simply do not make things like they used to!
If a comedian's job is to make you laugh, Foster has to be #1- I was literally howling and needing to grab things for balance. Unbelievably funny. Make sure you catch ALL his appearances. RIP Foster, I hope you know how good you were...are.
At one time he did have a drinking problem but he stopped drinking. His drunken act was without a doubt the best. You can tell by the reactions from the other performers that they considered him a fantastic talent.
He was from Louisville, KY as am I and he was crazy back in his younger years on radio and TV at the station WAVE.
i'm young and i don't know ALL of these guys too well...but i notice that foster brooks is usually acting drunk..is it just that?..acting? or is he really like that?
its funny they used to the whos who...now they use the least known ppl available for roasts... what the heck is up with that.... it would been a real treat to be at one of these things with such amazing ppl...
Oh man, Foster Brooks, I remember that dude. Can you imagine him coming out today with all the politically correct BS? He wouldn`t even get a gig at the local dive.
FUK!!! Now this is fukn comedy and all the greats are all over this show and now all the comedians are not even close to these legends, wat a fukn unfunny time we live in...

Don't care for Don Rickles racist remarks...and I'm white. But looooooooves me some Foster Brooks. Remember watching these Roasts with my dad when I was a kid and crying I was laughing so hard. Thanks for posting : )
Shows your thin liberal skin is all. Don was not racist and the fact that you take offense to it only masks concerns you have yourself of being racist.

@JustTMarketingLLC I'm a 21 year old boy from Norway, a country that's barely on the map and where they sadly never showed these roasts. Hell, we only had one TV station back then, until 1988 (no connection to the fall of communism... we like to believe). Anyway, I just wanna say that I discovered "old fashioned comedy" purely by coincidence, here on Youtube, and that I find it to be completely incomparable with the garbage (as I *now* know it) that we have today. Long live the memory of FB!
"But then the...bagels of w...beagles...bugle...buh-BUHHH...(hic)...the bugles of war-(hic)-sounded. And on that first mis-(hic)-mission Jimmy was the pilot and I was the naviGUHHHH...I was the na-(hic)-naa...I was the one with the S.O. roadmap."
I had to pause the video at that part...for TEN MINUTES I was doubled over laughing! There will NEVER be another to replace Foster Brooks!
"Esso" is the brand name Standard Oil used before becoming Exxon. Back in the day, you got free road maps at gas stations...plus, your gas was pumped, your windshield cleaned, your oil level and tire pressure checked, and either trading stamps or free products...for less than 25 cents a gallon! Boy, do I feel old!
@blackout010 FYI The road map was an Esso road map, what Exxon used to call themselves, probably changed their name later because Esso probably meant something bad somewhere in the world.

Yes, it was an act. Foster stopped drinking sometime in 1964 on a dare by a friend and over a $10 bet. He had his battles with alcohol prior to that.
