  • Jan Brewer is governor and you're not allowed to paint pictures on nonwhite people. Nazizona - what a wonderful state!

  • my principal!

  • We let him stay behind our house...re is like my family

  • goddamn i just don't understand why people have to look at it and see a hispanic kid, and they can't just see a student. Why does it matter that he's hispanic, he is a part of the community and has the same rights and deserves the same treatment white kids get.

  • BIM that UGLY Mural!

GO TO LOS ANGELES!! THIS IS HIDEOUS!

  • cant we all just get along?...... Jk paint all the kids white for superiority

  • I Can't Believe This! I Went To Miller Valley! K-5 And This Stuff Happens I'm Only In Middle School But Wow. And Its Sad That Steve Blair Is Hatin On Mexican Kids That He Thinks Is Black! Miller Valley School Is The Most Diverse School In Prescott, Way More Than Lincoln, Abia Judd, And Any Other Elementary School In Prescott I Should Know I Went There. And I Am Mexican American!

  • @Clanitz

Yeah we do have some nice ones. There was a coffee table book of them made a few years back. Maybe more since.

  • Has anyone else forgotten that Arizona was once a property of Mexico? That one of the first origin of people were Hispanics?

The white race is just trying to claim whatever they lay their eyes on as theirs.

  • LIGHTEN THE MURAL- ? then apologize for it?WHAT A DOUBLE KISS ASS-

now it looks like a mexican jumping a wall....

is that the "safe routes to school" theme y'all spoke of... OH, OR IS IT "GO GREEN? ha ha ha

LIBERAL IDIOTS DRAGGING KIDS INTO THIER POLITICAL AGENDA, AGAIN

    sick

  • Notice how all racist people use the same excuses smh wow i never said what the man did was racist im saying the comments are realize how all the people in the crowd are white so stop saying black people complain about everything The color of the skin on the children are all diff colors so trying to change one of the childrens skin color lighter is racist idk how u can say that its not but i dont have time for rednecks fyi:im mixed

  • WHITE PRIDE!!

  • Thank you for the great video: very illuminating. I agree, it is a beautiful mural. It's amazing to read the great comments from the community;) others are just psychologically projecting, very sad.

  • @Billythepeon I see birds, trees, a guy on a bike, and people outside. Nothing there inspires me to think cap n' tax. Now if they just threw some black and murky paint up on the wall to represent the Gulf of Mexico I might think that.

  • I live in SF in the western addition (Black Area). The schools that have murals on them have blacks as predominant figures. One Mural has all black faces. Seems logical to have a bunch of black faces on a mural in a large black area. It would seem strange to me to see a large white guy in front of a bunch of black kids in on a mural in my area. So why is it wrong for Arizona to want to have a mural that better represents their mostly white demographic? BTW I counted 3 black faces in that crowd

  • @Yereviltwin2 There is a significant hispanic population at Miller Valley Elementary. In '05-'06 (most recent data available) it was 30%. The mural design was selected by the students and teachers, but the students made the first cut by choosing their favorite six designs. The mural has two white kids on it, four kids total. A better question might be, why does race matter? Why can't the kids at the school choose their own mural design? And why complain about what they chose, other than racism?

  • @PrescottDiversity

Do you think having a Black or Hispanic as the most dominate figure on a mural that all towns people can see best represents a town that is 92% white? And if you say race doesn’t matter, why do you take issue if people want the mural to better represent the racial makeup if the town? Why would you care if ALL the faces were white?

  • @Yereviltwin2 If they were white in the fisrt place, nothing would matter.

But since at fisrt it was a hispanic colored boy changed to white, it should be taken in a harsh way.

Especially since the fact that Arizona is trying to get rid of hispanics, they also want to get rid of paintings. That just comes to show that Arizona is getting more racist by the minute!

  • @PrescottDiversity that, sir/madam, was the most sensible thing said all day.

  • @Yereviltwin2 Are you white? what race are you? Having a big white guy in front of black kids could have a racial undertone because of the history of this country. Go ask any black person what they think of Sandra Bullock latest movie. She gets an award for saving the black kid, this is a message that gets pounded over and over again in the minds of black people. So yeah, it's all racism and if your too stupid to see that then there's nothing God can do for you.

  • @sharptoothdesign it was a true story, not some made up story symbolically representing whites dominating blacks

  • @Yereviltwin2 In addition to PrescottDiversity's response, the kids painted on this mural are REAL children from the diverse school's yearbook. How do you think they felt when they learnt that the artists depicting them were told by the school district to lighten the skin tones of their faces to avoid stirring trouble? Are you kidding?

  • @Yereviltwin2 In addition to PrescottDiversity's response, the kids painted on this mural are REAL children from the diverse school's yearbook. How do you think they felt when they learnt that the artists depicting their faces were told by the school district to lighten the skin tone to avoid stirring trouble?

  • @Yereviltwin2 for one thing, the mural depicted actual children that attend that school, so to go back and lighten their pictures to try and make them look caucasian is absolutely disgusting.

  • @Yereviltwin2

Yer, it is the GREEN AGENDA.

this is a RETIREMENT town, with a bunch of old white people. SMALL town. SMALL.

  • Yes, they "made a mistake." It's not exactly the sort that you can just apologize for, he's still a blatant racist.

  • You feel comfy with the likes of Helen Thomas saying that the Jews need to just go home! To Germany!

You feel comfy with hardballs saying, "It gets back to the old days of the Democratic Party trying to make sure there's a white candidate or whatever."

Dems are comfy with Obama hiring Salazar and his hiring that woman, the BP exec to run MMS? The same MMS who just this last year in 2009 permitted the Horizon and gave them an award for safety?

You all are hypocrites and liars and buffoons.

  • @critticalacclaim360x

Except those children depicted GO TO THE SCHOOL.

    Your argument is invalid.

Also here in Philly there are a rash of murals - murals are kind of our thing - that have young Black children mimicking the aesthetics of European classical art. Most folks don't even notice but it aggravates me to no end. We have our own traditions which are exponentially longer than the western world but since we live in a western empire we get endless foolishness like this.

  • I want a HUGE mural of Shirley Temple on the side of a Harlem elementary school, with a tiny tiny little picture of Buckwheat from Little Rascals in the background! Do you think the Harlem residents might object?

  • Click on my name to see more videos of the protest and coverage of this issue.

There is also a Facebook group calling for the resignation of Steve Blair. Go to Facebook and search for "resignation Steve Blair."

  • Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay, woo hooooo!!! White people suck. Lets make sure they have ZERO representation!!!!!!!!!

    Bunch of idiots.

  • FU AZ

  • Steve Blair News conference Tuesday morning 11 downtown!

See the KYCA site for the story.

  • @JWlaca You don't like Jews? How come? All the Jews I know personally (NB: I don't know Bernie Madoff, for example) are kind, hardworking, decent people.

  • awesome.

  • Wow, this is so arsecringingly embarrassing.

  • Thanks for doing the right thing

  • I can't believe this happening in America in 2010. Come on. Grow up. It's just a mural

  • @SpaghettiJimmyWINS ..... That hate comes from someone who did not receive any roll model in life... did your mom live the house when you was a kid or you never met daddy. Sorry for U... look for help.

  • Comment removed

  • Dumbass racists. They need to get their asses kicked. I'm glad the principal finally did the right thing.

  • @SpaghettiJimmyWINS

Shut your dirty cunt, you red neck, chicken shit mother fucker.

  • "Anybody can make a mistake?" Did he really say that? Wearing brown shoes with a grey suit is a mistake. Acting like a racist jackass in your capacity as a member of the school board is more than a mistake. It's a firing offense. What were those guys thinking?

  • @Heraldblog I agree! all he's doing is covering his white butt as best he can. What a racist jackass... I am ashamed to be a fellow caucasian... >=(

  • Comment removed

  • @SpaghettiJimmyWINS I love how ignorant bigots always choose to excercise their 1st amendment right anonymously on the internet rather than in person. Or at least with your rean name so you can see how your neighbors feel about your free speach.. Much safer to hide behind a screen name.

  • wow find another subject to waste your time on

  • whoops, I scanned it real slow, there may have been 1...

  • Why doesn't idfnadesk let people comment on the illegal Isreali boarding of the Turkish ships in international waters on their videos? Are they scared people might know something they don't and maybe tell Youtubers the actual truth?

  • there are no blacks in Prescott... i'm jus sayin

  • I had already written a letter to Prescott City Council via their web page, calling for his immediate resignation, and quoted some of their own city Mission Statement. Then I was sent this link via twitter from Prescott Tourism. Please keep fighting racism, for all of our children and our future. The hatred must STOP NOW.

  • it's lovely to hear an adult say, "We made a mistake and we're sorry". A great lesson to the kids and to ALL people. Thanks so very much for posting this. America is all of us.

  • Arizona politicians are such CUNTS... Good thing the artist didn't change the color of it! We need to take a stand against these so-called leaders.

  • He agreed to his wrong. I'm glad he did this. I forgive him.

  • @sceja56 But the city councilman, Steve Blair, that started this with his radio broadcast did not apologize at this gathering. He should have, he needs to publicly apologize for his hate, admit that he needs help and resign from the city council. Loosing his radio show wasn't enough, he is still in a position of local gov't power. This is NOT Acceptable.

  • This is so stupid, The painting is racist, if it is supposed to be about overweight kids why is it only one color, is it only one group of people that are overweight, if it is really about overweight kids then the kids should all be different colors instead of just one color, now the painting is being racist against white people, People just need to quit complaining, there will only be racism as long as people think something is racist and make a case of it. They are the ones that are racist.

  • @ATARI800XLfan There are white, black and mexican kids on the mural. They are all actually students of the school. The black kid is just the largest picture.

  • It's easy to say you made a mistake after everyone says you did. People like this make Arizona America's toilet.

  • How about instead of saying we are not racist. Put the words We Are All The Same because we all all human beings and unique individuals as they broke the mold with each one of us.

  • @762lenny at the beginning it was a black boy. The white folks in the town & a councilman/local radio talk show host demanded that all the kids in the mural be painted white they espically didn't like the fact that the lagerest kid on the mural was a black kid. the city & the school agreed w/the white floks & began to lighten up all the color kids in the mural, thats when shit hit the fan, all the normal & non-racist people started to protest.

  • That was very commendable of him to show up in person and make that announcement. Admitting a mistake of that magnitude in front of the people protesting that mistake is brave. Bravo!

  • disregarding for the moment by who and why this mural was painted (yeah, it could have been to keep the racial gap going; it seems to be working), these people are still reacting very harshly towards diverse art. i fear that the mob's anger is vent against what they could easily criticize - art - than what they would emerge with dire consequences from - human life.

  • Mural looks great guys!! Great job! Absolutely beautiful!

  • Comment removed

  • Must be the same "artist" who painted exploding vans in NYC.

  • So many people haven't a clue what this is about....lol. It's artistry..... fascist scam artistry. At an Elementary School. Paint Benito Mussolini on their instead...going fascist. If your government and media don't have a problem, they'll create one. Because with out problems, they are useless and obsolete.

  • what exactly is the problem with painting a mural depicting Hispanic kids in a place where the population is mostly white?

if people complain about them being black or hispanic (accounting to the minority either way), it's certainly showing a lack of tolerance in their part. so much for diversity, so much for tolerance. i wonder what crosses their minds when they see a person belonging to the minority races in that city.

  • what the fuck is this shit?

  • @762lenny I didn't vote for anybody because I think liberals and conservatives both suck dick equally. Politics is just a neverending game that leads to nowhere. Was all this caused just because there's some black kid on the mural? If so then thats fucking stupid and people are making way to big of deal out of this. Leave it to a small little hick town like Prescott to make a big "controversy" out of some stupid bullshit like this.

  • I live in Prescott Valley (right next to Prescott) I've seen this in the newspaper, I watched the video, and yet I still have no fucking clue what's going on. What is this supposed to be about. I've asked people in Prescott and Prescott Valley what its about and they don't know either.

  • Good job Prescott. I knew you were better than that. Let's keep the racism in Maricopa County, because it has no place in the rest of the state.

  • YOUTUBE SUCKS!!!!! THIS STUPID THING IS ALL MESSED UP!! FULL OF GLITCHES AND BUGS!!!! >_<'

  • So why are there so many people against going green? It's obviously that we are destroying this planet. Look around people.

  • @quanhn

    Its inconvenient.

  • @quanhn

There's a brown kid on the mural.

I know, pathetic. A few people got mad but most people in Prescott are good people, smart people, and progressive people, or as I call them REAL Arizonans.

  • i dont see anything wrong with it, except for that going green bullshit, fuck al gore

  • the "going green" slogan is just a marketing strategy to see how many dumbaas smuggy assholes they can get at one place.

  • This going green shit is really old already.

  • Sometimes graffiti is a needed "art" form. Payback can be a b*tch.

  • @JoshG1976AZ because there are ignorant people who cant but being dumb.

  • i'm sorry is not good enough i want that fuck head to slap himself

  • Let's NOT forget Kevin Kapp is the same man that would NOT let our children watch the speech President Obama gave to school children across America...yep HE BANNED the schools from playing it...what a BIGOT!!!!

  • @healthyinarizona Thanks for that reminder. White fascism is alive and well in Arizona.

  • Comment removed

  • These people really should just admit they have a problem with race.

  • diversity makes a population wise and strong

  • 3:51

It’s a much younger and a bit chubbier Obama.

  • Hah, from an (half) Asian's point of view, is it any consolation that I only see Caucasians and no non-white Hispanics in the crowd? Weird. It's kinda stupid if you ask me. It feels like although the cause was so commendable, the Hispanics have only become a backdrop, a motif, a topic in this White versus White fiasco. Even the commissioned artist is White lol, of course.

  • White racists and the Radical Muslim terrorists have so much in common. Both groups seem to hate anyone who does not mirror them (appearance, beliefs...) and they spread this hatred on to their kids, generation after generation... All in the name of their religious beliefs.. I don't know who sane Americans should fear most.

  • The artist reminds me of a goat.

The principal looks nervous. Maybe he just doesn't like heights.

  • Mr. Lane and Mr. Kapp, thank you for being humble, direct and sincere in your apologies. There is a lot to regret about the incident in the first place, but if it does cause the good people of Prescott to "stand up and take a look at themselves," as Mr. Kapp put it, then it is taking something positive out of a bad situation.

  • Figures he would be a big fat racist slob. He needs to lose his job fast.

  • stupid. just because of two black kids on the wall. HA, pathetic

  • Jeff you are a bigger Man than some of your Arizona Compatriots. Kudos Pal... thanks for being humble enough to realize Right from Bigotry.

  • They're all not too bright. A professional artist would run proposals by their clients first to ensure all parties agreed to what was being created!

The two school guys were def wrong but so was the artist for creating one student of a certain race bigger than the others. That's just plain piss-poor common sense for a subject of diversity and equality.

  • @woodycoat -- best comment here.

    5*'s

  • @woodycoat The human default is white, right? So it would have been okay if the largest student was white?

  • @blechybecki the human default is white? what the hell planet are you on? Stupid question; of course it wouldn't be if the mural's intent is for diversity. Again any artist, of any race, with any common sense would place everyone on the same 'level' Anything else is just asking for complaints from one or more groups.

  • @woodycoat I live in the U.S., where people like to say they are colorblind and ignore the very real issues of racism that are alive and thriving today. Don't we have enough murals with a bunch of kids of different races lined up holding hands? Why can't we have a mural with kids in different perspectives without stressing about who's in front? Who cares if people complain? Those people are the ones that need to see true diversity, where the non-white kid is purposely placed at the forefront.

  • @blechybecki

The reason rascism is alive and well is because you liberal idiots keep bringing it to the forefront causing more and more racial division. Politicians do this by passing legislation for special interest groups so they can assure reelection, I dont know why you do it.

  • @jjrglobal no the reason there is racism.... is cause you rednecks are racist. DUH

  • You can see features of everyone in the people of the Kalahari.

  • "First Hispanic governor of a U.S. state: Ezequiel Cabeza de Baca (New Mexico, 1917) "

Don't ever let anyone tell you America is racist or America holds you down, just read the above. 1917, folks, later in 1928 New Mexico had first Mexican Senator.

"First Hispanic to win the Academy Award for best supporting actress: Rita Moreno (1961) First Hispanic to win the Academy Award for best actor: José Ferrer (1950)

Just to let everyone know, it's 2010.

  • I love it, everyone wants Diversity.....How Diverse is Mexico? How diverse is Latin America? Are they talking about America, the melting pot? America, the country where Mexican Americans and African Americans have been engaged in politics and government, for decades. "First Hispanic to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives: Joseph Marion Hernández (Territory of Florida, 1822–23)"

  • Latin America? Very.

I knew a Chinese guy from Venezuela.

  • You can see more videos from the event by clicking on my user ID.

Please help us organize for the resignation of Steve Blair, the Prescott City Councilman whose racially insensitive remarks created this unfortunate situation. We've started a Facebook group calling for his resignation, and I invite you all to join it and spread the word about this group. Go to Facebook and search for "resignation of Steve Blair."

  • Thank God for this. This is great news. To the rednecks and the racists - kiss my ass!

  • @glenakin , Just to let you know, Redneck means you are a farmer...making a redneck pretty similiar to a illegal immigrant like you. Basically your kissing your own ass. If you are going to make fun of el gringo, at least get it right.

  • @papavalium lol! it's pretty clear who's the redneck here. If I was a redneck, why would i diss myself? You rednecks are so fucking stupid, it's funny. Usually I feel sorry for stupid people and but with you lot, I just laugh hahahaha!

  • @glenakin I'm laughing at you calling people Rednecks. Who actually does that still? Also I would rather be called a redneck, which I'm not, then an Illegal immigrant which you are. No wonder you hate Americans.

  • @papavalium lol laughing at me? C'mon, now, don't lie to yourself. Who uses "redneck"? Well, everybody! And those who are rednecks are the ones who get pissed off about ppl calling them rednecks hahaha! And I'm not an illegal immigrant. America is a wonderful country, though I don't live there. Lol dude, just go to sleep

  • Go green go to HELL

  • Our schools are NOT for the advancement of ideologies; whitewash that fucking painting. That painting is the same as putting a painting of JC on the cross on that school. Who the fuck do you assholes think you're fooling?

  • The school is for education NOT for indoctrination!

  • I like how the activist, errr..., I mean artist, is the only one who knows how to work a bull-horn.

  • we can all learn from mistakes. Hopefully that has happened. To everyone who stood up and said NO to racism, bigotry, and hate....good for you....let's keep doing that...for the future of our country and our children.

  • Well oh my my... 65,619 views in 24 hours... NICE... loving it. Good job Moses!

  • This is nowhere near enough. He should be fired.

  • This is why this country is so great!

  • Still from the crowd no one shouts We Forgive You!

Whats an apology without the return seal of forgiveness.

The applause is nothing more than Grandstanding.

United we stand divided we fall.Celebrate diversity at home.

If a white person celebrates personal diversity away from home they are labeled racist.Go figure?

  • Do you now see?

Going green will only lead to trouble.

  • So you can't have an African american in a mural? Must be Caucasians?

It's some of the naggy minorities that cause the fuss who are racist.

  • Those Racists placed their CRAP/stink into the middle of "decent folk" and those "decent folk" walked around the stench and held their noses, instead of immediately scooping that CRAP up and placing it at the door of the person who squatted in the middle of town and pinched it off. And now all the glad handing and back slapping for the School Supt. doing the right thing after he originally did the "white thing" once again speaks volumes about you! BTW: The City Councilman speaks for whom?

  • them hippie artists hats oughta be made illegal too btw.

  • I'm a bit lost. I read the article and it seemed like someone thought it was racist because the main character has dark skin. I think its just a misunderstanding if thats the case. The guy on the mural is the same color as President Obama, the leader of our country. Yes Arizona does have legal American Citizens who are Mexican like the main character in the painting is. Even the most anti illegal alien people cant think legal citizens who are of Mexican decent have anything wrong with them.

  • @waboy23 dude, what's better, being a stoned hippie, or an angry, ignorant idiot like yourself? I'll take the hippie every time!

  • "City Councilman Steve Blair spearheaded a public campaign on his talk show at Prescott radio station KYCA-AM (1490) to remove the mural.

In a broadcast last month, according to the Daily Courier in Prescott, Blair mistakenly complained that the most prominent child in the painting is African-American, saying: "To depict the biggest picture on the building as a Black person, I would have to ask the question: Why?"

  • "Blair could not be reached for comment Thursday. In audio archives of his radio show, Blair discusses the mural. He insists the controversy isn't about racism but says the mural is intended to create racial controversy where none existed before.

"Personally, I think it's pathetic," he says. "You have changed the ambience of that building to excite some kind of diversity power struggle that doesn't exist in Prescott, Arizona. And I'm ashamed of that.""

  • Comment removed

  • If only all the cowards leaving anonymous racist messages on this video were publicly shamed in the same way, so their families and communities would know who they really are. They used to murder and enslave people, now they're just keyboard commandos and morons who yell at murals.

  • @TheoIsTheGreatest umm. i don't think anyone who enslaved people is still alive, bud

  • @glorplaxy derp

  • @glorplaxy

Then you are totally clueless. I'm not talking about the American slave traders and owners of the 19th century, but the racists still so prevalent in this country that still seek to enslave and diminish members of minority groups any way they can.

  • @glorplaxy lol he's not talking about individual people, he's talking about that type of person. The hateful ones who love to hurt. He's talking about how those people used to have power, but not they have to sulk in the dark to have their fun.

  • @glorplaxy that's if you're talking about african-american slaves. there's more to the world than the US, bud.

  • @Metasas yes, but we are talking about the US. you obviously didn't see the post I was replying to.

  • I think Africa, Asia and South and Central America could use some diversity!!!

  • I think that mural is beautiful. I can't see much detail because of the roving camera, but from what I do see, is beautiful. I see kids playing, gorgeous nature scenery, and beautiful artistry. The End.

  • Look up racism in a dictionary and notice that no where in the definition does it state that only African American minorities or any other minority are soley affected. Quit the hypocrisy. I'll treat you with respect when you treat others the way you want to be treated. I'll be damned if I have to be nice to someone who hates me based on what they see and treat me with disrespect based on the presumption that my ancestors did something to yours. People came over here after Segregation/Slavery too

  • Comment removed

  • @CtrlCreate me too - whats wrong with it

  • 1. get over the painting. 2. quit the racism 3. move on with life and focus on the issue the painting was suppose to be about. we are all human, gosh darn it.

  • Steve Blair from Prescott complains he "didn't made it about race" but he is the only one bitching about it. He made it an issue, but boy, he blames everyone else about.

  • What the hell is going on in Arizona these days. I mean to extent I agree with the immigration bill. But then you got officals pulling teachers out of class because of their accents and trying to get rid of ethnic studies. Something is not right over there.

  • @PrideofWhitey You're an idiot. That's the way you would like it to be so that your ignorant statement can have "some" validity. Truth is none of this would have even been an issue if they would have focused on the "original" theme which is environmental awareness and not how light are dark toned the skin of the child is. Get out of here with your right wing bs!

  • @riquelbc Don't feed the trolls, kiddies.

  • @riquelbc (Yawn) Whatever. Are you through? Good! Get to the back of the bus, where you belong.

  • @SciFiBMovieGuy coming from the sci-fi geek. Please go watch you telethon of Star Trek

  • @PrideofWhitey

Actually no, besides, not many negroes in AZ. The councilman made race an issue by complaining thinking it is a black child when it’s really a Hispanic child. Basically he decided to make a stand over a no issue. He was offended seeing a none-white child in the mural.
