I live in SF in the western addition (Black Area). The schools that have murals on them have blacks as predominant figures. One Mural has all black faces. Seems logical to have a bunch of black faces on a mural in a large black area. It would seem strange to me to see a large white guy in front of a bunch of black kids in on a mural in my area. So why is it wrong for Arizona to want to have a mural that better represents their mostly white demographic? BTW I counted 3 black faces in that crowd
@Yereviltwin2 There is a significant hispanic population at Miller Valley Elementary. In '05-'06 (most recent data available) it was 30%. The mural design was selected by the students and teachers, but the students made the first cut by choosing their favorite six designs. The mural has two white kids on it, four kids total. A better question might be, why does race matter? Why can't the kids at the school choose their own mural design? And why complain about what they chose, other than racism?

Also here in Philly there are a rash of murals - murals are kind of our thing - that have young Black children mimicking the aesthetics of European classical art. Most folks don't even notice but it aggravates me to no end. I think that mural is beautiful. I can't see much detail because of the roving camera, but from what I do see, is beautiful. I see kids playing, gorgeous nature scenery, and beautiful artistry. The End.

Most folks don't even notice but it aggravates me to no end. I think that mural is beautiful. I can't see much detail because of the roving camera, but from what I do see, is beautiful. I see kids playing, gorgeous nature scenery, and beautiful artistry. The End.

Look up racism in a dictionary and notice that no where in the definition does it state that only African American minorities or any other minority are soley affected. Quit the hypocrisy. I'll treat you with respect when you treat others the way you want to be treated. I'll be damned if I have to be nice to someone who hates me based on what they see and treat me with disrespect based on the presumption that my ancestors did something to yours. Let's turn the tables around for a moment. If the artist painted the face white, the negroes would have demonstrated and probably even rioted. Jesse and Al would go to Arizona and make a federal case out of it all. In the end, the liberals would feel sorry for those poor black folks, then let them have their way.

Actually no, besides, not many negroes in AZ. The councilman made race an issue by complaining thinking it is a black child when it’s really a Hispanic child. Basically he decided to make a stand over a no issue. He was offended seeing a none-white child in the mural.
