I think you make a point- Tyra's not fat. But I think Tyra was saying "Kiss my (what you might call) "fat" ass." She knows she's not fat but just because she's not fat doesn't mean she can't stand up for fat people everywhere who feel ugly and put down. I was so happy that I had someone in the media cheering me on- not to loose weight but to be my beautiful, amazing self at 300 pounds. Not "Be your beautiful, amazing self at 150."
Your point is very valid, but I cherish her un-yeilding support.
being 'fat' is your decision... if a 5million pound person decided thety were skinny, then so be it. tyras point was that she is built big and that she WASNT FAT. i think ur bein so disrespectful to tyras message. tyra is a strong itnelligent woman who has been through alot and has a strong hold on reality, unlike u.
tyra wasn't pretending to be fat! she was talking about her actual ass, which is big, and that's a good thing lol. she was basically telling the media fuck u for making fun of people.
society does make a big influence in whatever we buy and more importantly the media plays a big role in how people feel about themselves. we like to think of ourselves as liberated and that no one will change us but in the real, we are conforming. the fact that weight is even a PHYSICAL issue to tyra or to anyone shows that we are being brain washed. weight if anything is a health issue and that goes for people under weight too. this intelligent woman is showing courage by going against the norm
Lady, the truth is you are fat. Blaming corporations will not change that. Some people don't want to be fat, and there are business that help them. They get to make money, and those people get to do something about being fat, if they so chose. You chose not to. That is your right. But don't pretend that it is all some grand conspiracy. YOU ARE FAT. Even if no one made you feel bad about it, you still would not be able to run, jump, fit into regular clothes. Don't take your angst out on Tyra.
Now I'm an overweight woman and even I understood the message that Tyra was sending out. And not once did I stop and think "now wait, Tyra can't say that, she's not fat". I was inspired by what she said and I feel like she gave me that confidence to tell those who've put me down to kiss my fat ass. Society has very different views of what is fat and what isn't, get a clue.
Lady you really need to get a life. I mean yes, she is an ex supermodel and no she is not what most people in society would consider to be fat. But come on, any person with common since could see that Tyra was not pretending to be fat. She was simply sending out a response to not only the people in the media who put that picture out and called her fat, but also to people who have a problem with and put down other overweight girls and women.
Oh please shut up. She was making a point and it made perfect sense. Her point was that she wasn't fat. She didn't mean "Kiss my FAT ass". She meant "Kiss my 'fat' ass".
You are smart and beautiful and very well spoken. You make an excellent point. Anyone who watches this and doesn't understand, is not on the side of size acceptance. Thank you for putting out an intelligent, well thought message. This is an awesome video! Love - DAB
I am sure a person heavier then you would say you were thin also! Weight is all relative to the individual. More importantly what has Tyra's heritage got to do with weight? It is Americans like you who give my white skin colour a bad reputation!!
when she said "kiss my fat ass" she didn't literally mean she was fat. she meant it as a reference to what the media said. if the media said she was fat, then she didn't care, call her fat. she knows she isn't fat. and she's trying to send a message out there to not let the media get to you and make you believe you are. so, im sorry but i believe you misinterpreted her stating "kiss my fat ass".
The media says Tyra Banks and Beyonce is fat so in Tyra and many other Hollywood females star's mind think that there fat..so in Hollywood they are. So you shouldn't be rude how would you like to be a size 4 and called fat...you will believe it. And history wise there were good whites who understand what blacks go through...they saw it same for thin people who know what plus size people through. Right now I am 291 pounds just came from 391...we can change and so can you..hard yes but possible.
its sed that during that photo she had an acess 40 pounds on her + u can see the diff from the photo and her and if u think that photo was bad u should find out wat britney does for a work out routine 90 mins a 3 times a day 5 times a week just wait till u find out wat she does part of it is 600 crunches per workout
this is wierd...so you have to be fat to get someone to listen?? and tht lady is racist.lol.you can tell she has been rehearsing this and she is reading it. she probably lives in her moms basement i mean look at her sheets. it loooks like a closet in there. my closet is bigger and that is sad.lol.
Normally, I just wouldn't reply to someone calling me a racist, because there's just no basis for it in fact and saying that is trollish. But yes, I was reading -- which is actually proof that I HADN'T rehearsed. I recorded this, because before YouTube expanded the number of characters one could use, no matter how I wrote it, I couldn't get it under the allowed number of characters. I said, "Screw it, I'll use my digital camera and just say it."
So your trying to tell her when she has obviously been critisized during her life that was all nothing? Tyra obviously knows what it is like to be critisized and is standing up for people with not as much public voice as her and im sure many people apricate her support and understanding.
I'm sure many do. Knowing what it's like to be criticized can lend empathy, true. I know what it's like to be judged by my size, so that knowledge can translate over to empathizing with an AA person for being judged for skin color. But that's not the same as appropriating it, which she in a way did. Thank you for your measured, respectful message, even if we may disagree.
she wasn't pretending to be fat, she's just representing how society should respond and feel about themself and it's just figurative speech. you seem to have failed to comprehend tyra's message.
When Tyra said "kiss my fat ass" it wasn't just her saying it.She's being ironic.Tyra herself doesn't think she's fat, she says the picture is curvy, but Tyra knows there are people who thinks she's fat, and people who put women down by calling them fat etc. She's showing these idiots the middle finger, by sayng it's okay to be whatever size you are. You missed the point completely.
Besides, just because someone is thin or normal size, doesn't mean they can't stand up for those who feel bad about being bigger.I've been the smaller type all my life, and people have been mean to me because of that, calling me anorectic , which hurts, since I know people who actually are sick with anorexia.Don't point your finger at thin people, blame the media.
All my younger life, my best friends were too skinny and I was too fat. They were always trying to gain and I was always trying to lose. They actually ate more than I did and I was very active. Some people are meant to be thinner than average, some fatter. And standing up for someone is one thing, taking on the mantle of something they are not is another. Yes, I get that those in the entertainment business might think so, but they are assholes.
that wasn't racist! she is saying the true, tyra is not fat but shE is trying to be likE Oh im fat kiss my ass! and what she is tryign to say for all you imature people is the same if a white people try to be a black people when they know their not!

What a clever woman you are! I agree, the paparazzi is largely to blame for young women to have anorexia, because they publish photos of thin, physically fit women, and they impose the social norm of what is "fat" and what is not. On the other side of the spectrum, people(yes, including us men) should ALWAYS try to be in the best possible shape!!
Ok, that is mean. You don't go around calling people fat. But this person used a lot of big words which confused me o.O I'm not smart o.o" But I get what your saying. But I agree with Tyra =P
I want to thank you all for both the positive and negative comments. It's all good, and as far as I'm concerned, anything that gets people talking about the impossible and dangerous body standards for women is a good thing in my book.
ha you know what I jut realized .. you typed this all out before doing this .. so everything your saying right now is not really coming from your heart and what you really feel because if it did you wouldnt have had to memorize it beforehand. So lets get honest huh? thanks.
I will not reply to the rest of your uninformed accustions, but the reason why I typed it out is because I was originally replying straight to her video in text. Problem is, there is a limit as to how many characters you can type, and mine was above the limit. On a whim, I decided to do a video response (one they will not approve because I do not kiss her ass). So yeah, not rehearsed and off the cuff, which makes it honest as hell.
Your comment about saying that "being fat is the worst a woman could be.." That's what Tyra was trying to stop with her comment. She was trying to stop people from saying that being fat is the worst thing in the world and to stop people from making fun of others, which you just did.
Don't be ignorant because from your response it doesn't even sound like you took what Tyra said into consideration. You probably judged her and her comment before you thought about what she was really trying to say. That's what I hate about people.. when they're ignorant. And trust me I watched your video twice before considering what I said so I'm not being hypocritical with what I have written.
Just so you know, Tyra was only trying to address the problem of people being made fun of by using herself as an example as someone being made fun of by the paparazzi. I agree with what jiajia098 said
also tyra for girls i think she is a very good role model. in vs models interviews. she said she had always been a bigger size to other vs models. and that with her popularity ppl didn't want her to lose weight. they wanted her to be bigger sized and healthy. with the first vs model wihtouthaing to lose any weight. thats y ppl like her. and thats y she's the host for antm. showing to get to her lace you dont' have to be so skinny
so how is she pretending to be fat. she done a great job, usually girls who been called fat just stand there n they don't even stand up for themselves cuz of low confindence. but tyra stood up for her self. meaning she doesn't think she's fat, but others do think like that. and yer she stood up for herself and all girls and women who have been called fat. what tyra stated if ppl called you fat then they could piss off.u c it's about ppl CALLING other FAT. not ppl being FAT
but she said ppl shouldn't compare others. sure i might be fat compared to vs models.paris hilton might be fat compared to nicole richie. tyra stated ppl shouldn't be called fat just by comparing from others. get it now?
Oh, I got it the minute I saw it. And way before then, actually. One could say that being fat is relative, but really, it isn't. Tyra is actually closer to the average size for a woman; she is not fat. Just because some Hollywood paparazzi idiot sells a photo to some Hollywood piece of crap rag, wanting to be sensational and sell mags by calling her fat, that doesn't make her actually fat. And her saying to kiss her fat ass is ridiculous, because her ass isn't fat.
wat r u on about? trya wasn't pretending she was fat or skinny. she stated that she doesn't care what ppl think about her, she stood up for all women and all girls who had been put down on being a lil overweighted. you think she isn't fat compared to you. thats what tyra had been saying. she said reporters compare her to other models. and that means to others she's fat.
that is sooo true, sheesh tyra probably just made people who actually are overweight feel bad about themselves, like "if she's fat, then what am I????"
That was wonderful and well educated. I agree-Tyra isn't fat, and thus the message did ring hollow. Also, Tyra got so passionate about being called fat that she was nearly crying, yet she is trying to say that the words did not affect her. I came to doubt that after she was nearly crying.
Tina, what most people dont realize, is you cant talk the fat talk without walking the fat walk, excellent words and feeling. I walk the fat walk with you, and as your friend.
That was an excellent response Tina! Tyra couldn't "pinch an inch" with a pair of pliars even if she tried. Setting herself up as an example of a fat person being chastised isn't realistic, what you said needed to be said Tina!
Excellent video, Tina, my friend. You speak passionately and eloquently about what is an important issue for all of us -- but particularly women. You rock!
what are u talking about? tyra is not thin- she's normal. what is a normal body to you? a mcdonalds person, that is really fat?! what she said was better then u said. you dont understand how we young gurls live today, you don't understand how we feel...
I don't think she means thin in the context that it's a bad thing, but rather that thin is the norm in perception (Models are statistically thinner than the average woman for example), and if you listen to what she's saying: She knows a lot about what young women have to deal with.
And Tina's beef is in the words and context used: She has no problem with what her message was exactly.
HolyBarnacles is right, matte. Tyra is thin, but not skinny. The average weight for a female is, 162.9 lbs, surprisingly, and that is as of 2002. That sounds like a lot when compared to what actresses and models, like Tyra, weigh. Sounds like a lot compared to what society says we should weigh. Tyra is certainly not even approaching what anyone could call fat. This is not an indictment, but fact.
When I was growing up, most people were not at all fat. I was, and it was hell. I understand what it's like to be a female and to be judged constantly for my weight. I might understand more than you think, matte. Damned character count limits. :p
Excellent message. It's obvious Tyra is all for size-acceptance but she's not really at the heart of where the problem is. Tyra's fat suit experiment fell flat because she was fervently search for bigotry within her dates even though her dates clearly had no fat hatred.
I think you make a point- Tyra's not fat. But I think Tyra was saying "Kiss my (what you might call) "fat" ass." She knows she's not fat but just because she's not fat doesn't mean she can't stand up for fat people everywhere who feel ugly and put down.

You rock!

okeeeeeeeeey??
what are u talking about? tyra is not thin- she's normal. what is a normal body to you? a mcdonalds person, that is really fat?! what she said was better then u said. you dont understand how we young gurls live today, you don't understand how we feel...

Very insightful video. I had to favorite this Tina, you rock!

Excellent message. It's obvious Tyra is all for size-acceptance but she's not really at the heart of where the problem is. Tyra's fat suit experiment fell flat because she was fervently search for bigotry within her dates even though her dates clearly had no fat hatred.

Bravo Tina.
Your logic and reason as well as unbiased argument was wonderful to hear after Tyra's emotional outburst.

Great going Tina!!!
You are correct- I like Tyra- but she is doing us a disservice to call herself fat.
I have to say that I also loved seeing you in motion and speaking- instead of just still pictures of you and text on the forum :)
