  • Elvis, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee, Johnny Burnette, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Carl Perkins etc. etc. have all now stood the test of time, and the argument is not who's best anymore! Let's just celebrate the great musical legacy left to us.

  • R.I.P. it up.

  • thats Waylon Jennings @0:23

  • R.I.P Charles Hardin Holley

  • wanna see anyone trying to dance that version og Rip it up-his feet would just go on fire!!he he:-)

  • who were the 6 idiots that didn't like this! better than rap :-)

  • THE KING OF THEM ALL IS BUDDY ]FOR ME ANYWAY ]

  • Elvis was a showman. His recordings in '56 and '57 were always on the charts-as were Buddy Holly's in '57 and '58. Elvis had 9 huge hits in that space and Buddy had 8 in his space. After Elvis went in the Army and Holly died, Elvis had a great FILM career and, later,a fat, sloppy Vegas career, but the HITS stopped coming.

Elvis was a bigger deal, but Holly was a hugely successful songwriter as well as a singer, guitar player and recording artist. One was not BETTER than the other-just different

  • @3kencloud To say Elvis hits stopped coming is just plain foolish, TEN #1's he posted (not 9) between 56 and 57 he went on to chart another 23 #1's. That is just the #1's , not including the dozens and dozens of other tunes that charted. Elvis to this day is still the best selling solo artist in the history of pop music, again a far cry from the "hits stopped coming". Whether he was young Elvis, Army Elvis, Hollywood Elvis, or Big Fat Vegas Elvis, the Hits NEVER stopped coming.

  • How much is that strat worth now eh !.

  • This was rock and roll. I cant imagine when this was considered edgy and hip.

  • Louis Prima sings the original!

  • what an awesome version of this song!!!!

  • Fantastic cover. However, I prefer the version without the extra guitar overdubs. It just doesn't need it.

  • i like the gene vincent version better

  • I still love this song.

  • u shure its him? sounds good

  • wow. verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, verse, chorus all in 1:26. what fantastic songwriting!

  • Of all the greats out of the 50's, it's Buddy Holly that influenced the musicians most when the British Invasion started. Sir Paul McCartney has said that for his entire career, and many more legends also credit his music style as a big key to their sounds. Where Elvis had the looks, style, and raw energy, Holly had the writing skills, more polish, and musicianship nailed. It's sad he didn't get to truly realize his full potential, but the legacy he left was towering as heard here.

  • seems like a true buddy holly fan to me

  • Holly

  • Buddy hole is one of the best artist of all time it is a shame

  • Why does "GOD" take away the good musicians >:( take justin beiber or lady gaga but not the good arrtists

  • @lauripolla suck it athiest

  • Buddy could definitely rip it up!! He is my guitar hero! I think about him every time I strap on my Stratocaster.

  • Guys Check my tribute to buddy holly & the other musicians in the plane crash! i made it on the date they died ( February 3rd)

  • Buddy was the best to come out of the 50's. An original, you cannot put a corporate stamp on him...

  • Rip it up was also recorded by Little Richard in 1955 (original) and Elvis and Bill Haley in 1956. Only Bill could reach the billboard charts with his version.

  • 0:20 - Did that get canceled? Or was it before you-know-what?

  • @CentraCross

3/4 of the musitions died..im pretty sure it was caneled

  • @foamy1graff Frankie Sardo and Dion & The Belmonts continued until the end of the tour.

Bobby Vee & The Shadows performed on the Feb. 3rd date,

Jimmy Clanton, Fabian & Frankie Avalon were substituted as headliners,

The Crickets finished the tour with Ronnie Smith as lead vocalist.

  • @CentraCross That was 'during' the you-know-what. The 'Winter Dance Party' was the name for the tour that they were all on. a three-week tour that were to comprise 24 towns in the midwest. The tour bus they were on had no heating, which caused Buddy to say the hell with it. He chartered an airplane, he, Ritchie and the Big Bopper got on...and we know what happened. So, the poster is for the entire tour, not one specific venue.

  • BUDDY HOLLY THE TRUE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL. ps. buddy and elvis were very good freinds

  • Buddy was wonderful. Without Arthur 'Big Boy' Crudup Father of Rock & Roll, Elvis great as he got, til Colonel-ized, would maybe be on Grand Ol' Opry. Elvis early-covered faithfully and made hits of THREE Arthur Crudup songs (his admitted idol) Crudup's music referred opened white market doors for Chuck Berry and Little Richard. Our national (musical) shame is that Crudup's never been inducted into the Rock Hall nor got even ONE royalty for his blues classics covered by EVERYBODY

  • Totally awesome rendition. Buddy's all over the vocal & the band's rockin'! Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)

  • Today, there are no more so talentous artists like Buddy, so we have to keep his music playing forever, to our sons, friends to know the real good music.

    Congratulations for posting this wonder

    Mende/Brasil

  • Major. Major. Major.

    owwww!

  • fantastic...Judy from Canada

  • buddy holly a real rock n'roll legend but he would not have been bigger than elvis i'm sorry to say that.i'm a rock fan who like all af the old rock n'roll singers but there is one rock n' roller that really stand above all rockers and that is elvis he had the moves, lookes, and a hell of a voice. that's what ill think about it.

  • Much better than Elvis, Little Richard, Frankie Lymon, and Jim Reeves combine!

  • Somebody....SEND ME BACK TO THE LATE 1950's!!!!

  • One of the best videos about Buddy that I see!!! Congratulations

    Hugs from Brazil

    Mendes

  • The real Buddy so much better than shit like wait til the sun shines nellie

  • Great Song but i think covered. original by little richard? im not sure

  • Love playing this song.

  • @ 0:09 where is that id like to see it?

  • A Great Rockabilly Style Tune

  • hey I would like to know where I can get a copy of the pic lower left corner that says complete volume seven??????? That is a pic of my dad behind the amp.

  • I quite like the comment (at the end) which says 'the music never died' under Buddy's photograph. I read recently that Buddy only did the winter dance tour because he needed the money, with a child on the way,and after his death his wife subsequently lost the child. One of the most heart-wrenching things I think I've ever read.

  • I would like to know where you got your pics for this video, I saw one that showed my dad playing with Buddy and would love to have a copy as this is priceless.

  • You'r dad played with him ? Thats so cool :)

I might have a copy lying around somewhere on my computer if you want me to send it to you. Which picture were the one ?

  • @Nunatag1 I do not know how Liar got on your page, I would not accuse you of that......I would love to get a copy of the pic with the young guy sitting on the amp or beside it....so sorry that this appeared on your page, I know there was someone who said my dad never played with Buddy and came along after Buddy died.....

  • @deces0 why would you call me a liar, do some research dipshit........

  • @earlslilttlegirl Who's your dad if I might ask? I'm a big Buddy fan and a 50's enthusiast in general.

  • @TheDJGrandPa My dad is Earl Sinks...sang Deborah, Someone Someone, I fought the law and many more......

  • @earlslilttlegirl I remember the name, but don't know where I've heard it, lemme check... can't find anything at the moment, but I know I have one of his songs on my cellphone, I'm pretty sure he's sort of a rare early 60's Teen/Doo-Wop artist, which is just in my taste.

Oh, I found the songs: "Look For Me" and "Superstitious", both are great songs, and my dad is particullary found of the latter one. My friends like him as well, tell him hello from a greaser from Sweden ;)

  • @earlslilttlegirl Hahah bullshit

  • @earlslilttlegirl which one

  • reel king is C.F.

  • i think this is one of the songs buddy recorded in his garage among many others, excellent as always

  • Buddy is great

  • I believe the band's name was the Crickets.

  • Wait a minute is this some other band playing over their tracks??

  • little richard did it way better

  • Gene Vincent did it even better again.

  • Buddy Holly has more hits than Gene Vincent, and he died when he was 22

  • I much prefer this version to Little Richard's. but I still love Little richard.

  • Hey this is great, I do this one in my set!!!

  • Buddy Made These Songs To Last Forever and that's just what they are doing, theres a lil but of buddy in each of us,

  • Great version. I hadn't heard this one. The first record I ever owned was Oh Boy by Buddy. He's the greatest to me.

  • Now THAT'S Rock and Roll!

  • rip that shit up buddy!!!! we all miss you so much!!!!

  • Honestly, IMHO, the only reason that Elvis wound up bigger than Buddy was for the simple fact that he lived and Buddy didn't. Had circumstances been a bit different, I think Buddy would've buried Elvis.

  • Hi!!

I'm Italian and my English is horrible, i know that!!

But I'm absolutly with your thought!!

Buddy Holly is a great one!!

  • that wasn't bad at all. You speak english better than most english speakers, haha, myself included. Salute!!

  • Thanks a lot!!! It's a wonderfull thing for me to practise my English..

  • I´m agree with you Elvis was just a face, he only made covers from Carl Perkins, Little Richard, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent even Chuck Berry. Elvis is a great singer but he is not the king of rock and roll

  • Elvis wasn't a writer but he was a better singer than all of these men. His charisma killed all of this guys except maybe Little Richard.

  • @solitudesblind you are an asshole that´s not true, chuck berry is an amazing guitarist, singer and songwriter but the fucking society only remember elvis because of his face not his talent

  • Chuck was amazing but you give no reasons or evidence for your claims. So, my friend, you are the one who is the anal opening.

  • Chuck cant or wont even bother to tune his f***ing guitar since about 1960. On that basis he is not a great guitarist. Not now anyway.

  • rolling stone "the 100 greatest guitarist of all time" number 6 Charles Edward Anderson "Chuck" Berry

  • Yeah & you know know who's also listed as in the top 100 Rolling Stone guitar players of all time? Neil Young. Jack White(White stripes) &............Joan Jett. Why are they even included?

Chuck WAS great. He plays way out of tune live.

  • @zacharymich13 Well, his face and his gyrating pelvis on stage.

  • What isn't true? Are you honestly trying to say that Chuck Berry is a better singer than Elvis? I mean I can see you are already pretty dumb, but that claim would make you close to autistic. Even by today's standards, Elvis' range as a singer is astonishing.

  • say what you want brother, my english is bad but I know about music, and I can say that if Buddy Holly were survived in that accident he will be greatest than elvis, about chuck, he is the pioneer, he made the rock & roll, elvis was a fucking moving pelvis, who had a nice face, He never sang, understand it. Anyway for me Johnny Cash is the best

  • that's very ironic. You say you don't like Elvis (which i personally disagree with but to each his own right?) because he "never sang" but you're favorite is Johnny Cash?? you do realize johnny Cash spoke like all of his songs, right?

(nothing against Cash by the way, i love him too, that's just ironic!)

  • Elvis is a great singer probably one of the best of all time, but I think that is unfair that people considere him as the king of rock, I like elvis too I have two cds of him but I only said that singers like buddy holly, eddie cochran, ritchie valens, carl perkins, little richard, chuck berry, are in my opinion as best as elvis

  • @zacharymich13 Statistically...Elvis Presley blows away every artist you just listed

  • @zacharymich13 I cant agree with you anymore

  • Comment removed

  • @scarface2891 You need to learn your history.......Elvis was the main reason Buddy Holly was in Rock and Roll.....Buddy had a country band and it wasnt until 1955 that the band switched to Rock and Roll after they saw Elvis in concert in Lubbock , TX.....Elvis was famous before Buddy Holly ever put out a song

  • @Jacobrester That may be the case but what I was talking about had nothing to do with what you were talking about. But you tried though.

  • @Jacobrester Very true, all the younger musicians loved the way Elvis got the girls so they went into that style. Though when Elvis was in Lubbock on tour, Buddy befriended him, took him to his parents' for dinner and taught him Money Honey on the guitar. He also told Elvis to use drums in his act, Elvis refused at first, but then later added D.J. Fontana. Also, years later Elvis said "looking back over the last 20 years the guy I admire most in rock and roll is Buddy Holly. Look it up.

  • @heyzog I have no doubt Elvis was a fan of Buddy Holly...and Buddy did open up for Elvis in a Lubbock concert in 1956 so it is quite possible they were friends.....what I dislike is when people degrade Elvis in an attempt to glorify their hero...I am a fan of Buddy and Elvis so it pisses me off more.....Buddy was good....we will never know if he was great....he only released 3 albums

  • @Jacobrester Hey man, I didn't mean to sound like I was dissing Elvis, I like his stuff too, especially the Sun records. And yeah, we'll never know what Holly could have accomplished or not. Anyhow, I would never degrade one for the other, now the Beatles however, that's a different story. Then again I would be assailed by all the legions of fanatical Beatles fans, they're alot like heavy metal fans, almost religious in their zeal.

  • @scarface2891 Not a chance!!! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Buddy and he's one of the pioneers. But to say he would've become bigger doesn't take into consideration just what "made Elvis, Elvis". Elvis had the looks, the style, the voice... he basically blew up the Eisenhower Era conservatism and paved the way for modern pop culture. He had an electricity that infiltrated an entire arena even before he stepped onto the stage. He was just so much more than anyone person before or since!

  • @scarface2891 as amazing as buddy was im a huge fan, he wasnt burying elvis while he was alive. or while elvis was in the army, so that isnt a very smart comment.

both are amazing for different reasons.

  • @scarface2891

you should study MUSIC more. that has Nothing to do with it.

randy rhoads died in 82 & is well known, Jake e lee isn't

John Lennon is as popular as Mick Jagger.

so is Hendrix, some Bands/ Guitarists are still going & don't get reconized.

  • @scarface2891 Jeezus, so damn polarizing.

  • PURE ROCKABILLY BABY!!!!!

  • Why doesnt he get credited the way elvis did?

  • Really good version of "Rip it up", fantastic! Buddy Holly was some kind of genius.

  • Hard to imagine his whole career happened before he was 22. Damn shame... Rock music and music in general had a lot more to learn from Mr. Holly.

  • @PDXorcist When i grow up i want to Bring Back Rock & Roll And put all this Rap,Hip-Hop, Heavy metal shit in the trash and so it'll be like the "Fap 50s" again.

  • were is the buddy holly statue located :)

  • Lubbock, TX

  • this is rock´ n roll!

  • So good! Just so, so good!

  • i compare Holly to Hendrix, i think he's that good. Sure he never clowned around the stage and played guitar with his teeth but the quality in their music. R.I.P both of them.

  • I think you're right.

Actually though he did clown around the stage - there's not much film of his live shows but there's photos of him on his knees and singinging into the bass mic etc. They were quite wild on stage apparently.

  • Yes i saw the musical yesterday and he jumped up on to the bass and played guitar on it b4 jumping down and smashing the stage with all his might!

  • wow - This stuff shows how simple a perfect groove is and how few can pull it off. Buddy we owe you for showing us how it is done right!

  • Buddy is really truly amazing...with his super talent in music...he is a good composer...has his own style in singing...wasn't born yet when he died...but listening his musics...he is really inspired by everyone....Elvis is the King of rock and roll..but Buddy Holly is the FATHER OF ROCK AND ROLL....Rolling Stone and the Beetles thank him...Remember how they become famous....they both sang Buddy's song...and that is how they were known..Buddy Holly is truely a LEGEND OF ROCK AND ROLL ....!!!

  • was this with the crickets?

  • great song, i put a video of oh boy up and it got pulled twice by you tube for copyright infringement

  • That's idiotic. Stuff from dead musicians should be public domain. I guess people think they have a fundamental right to profit from music they didn't make.

  • but what about the families of the artists who have passed? Surely the artists may have set up their wills so that any future royalties & publishing should go to the heirs. Dead or not, it's intellectual property, and protected by laws.

  • Actually, Buddy's widow María Elena (her surname escapes me) retains copyright over his work.

  • A widow is fine. But when does it end? Grandchildren? Great-grandchildren?

Do you think that's Bach's current relatives should be getting money for something that they had nothing to do with?

  • I think its Santiago...(i dont know how to spell it)

  • if the dead musician had his work copyrighted, then it is his for 70 years after his death, then anyone can take it.

  • And thats totally stupid, but that music is great.

  • friggin idiots

this is a little richard tune

and buddy was the only one who could due justice to a richard song

elvis killed it with his cover

    ELVIS WAS A FAT HACK

  • This young man was truly amazing. Beautiful lyrics at such a yonug age. A true pioneer.

    Miss you Buddy!

  • Buddy loved Elvis! Elvis loved Buddy . 50 years ago we still miss them!

  • When I listen to his music, I still can't believe that he died at age 21! I am not sure, but I think that he did all of his recording over an 18 month period, is that correct?

  • He was a great singer

  • buddy was amazing :)

  • very cool!!!!

  • wow i've never heard this cover :o

  • This is the real rockabilly..

  • These were the days, kiddo.

  • rock stars in suits and tuxes. what happened?

  • Elvis.

  • "rock stars in suits and tuxes. what happened?" They were dressing well as successful R&B musicians before them always had.

  • You're going the wrong direction in time.

  • I don't see how its going in the wrong direction. A suit is timeless. You can put someone in a suit and proabbly have difficulty guessing which decade they come from. A suit outlasts all fashion trends!

  • I think there is a level of respectablilty with a performer in a suit- that why I simply hate all this modern R n B crap with "rappers" wearing sports caps and tacky medallions.

  • a great cover by buddy thanks

  • Good but Little Richard will always be the King of Rockv N Roll. Owen Australia

  • Little Richard the King of Rock and Roll? wow.

  • Right on.

  • ? lol
