  • I was at this show. I even caught a pick. I can't believe this is on youtube! Awesome, and kudos to the uploader.

  • such a pretty woman, singing obviously from her true heart - what schmuck could mistreat her like that? Never me -

  • pretty & determined ...rythm gutarist is almost as pretty as aimee is ;o)

  • lets see... that's gotta be a fender p bass...

  • Good god, what a gem!!!

  • Awesome Song !!!

  • Cool Video.I still rem seeing them play at clubs like the Franklins club in shirly ma.and at the channel club in boston.. excelent performance and the sound was fantastic wish those days where still here...

  • Thank You Aimee Mann ... Wish I could play music with You .. Smiles Peace

  • I have awesome memories of this song, it would always be on the radio as my mom, my friends and I drove to and from motocross races or practice in the middle 80's. Those were great times and it's a great song.

  • And who says live music can't be better than the studio version....love the edge on the live version.

  • So much feeling... more music like this needed today.

  • I saw them open for Hall and Oates in April 1985 - next day went out and bought the album (remember those?) their 2nd album Welcome Home was lights years ahead of the first - always thought I'd be the perfect guy for Aimee oh well:) Michael Penn lucky bastard

  • Awesome job always loved this song :) Aimee your voice is so awesome

  • She's herself up there. You can tell. Genuine. Really talented ... and really beautiful. Quite a full package.

  • She was so fucking cool. Loved her hair. I wish she stayed like this, writing kick ass heartbreaking songs on electric guitar. I still listen to her, and have learned to love her acoustic more singer-songwriter side, but still.

"I wish he would let me talk." What a line

  • I thought Madonna was the greatest, until I heard Aimee's emotional vocals & the haunting sound of 'Til Tuesday. Aimee was classy, & the band didn't need gimmicks to win fans... Still, ; ) at 16 I replaced my cut up T's w/ an oversized blazer (stuffed w/ two sets of shoulder pads!), then secretly began snipping my beloved Barbie's hair off at the scalp, & proceeded to braid tiny sections of the locks into a chunk hair behind my right ear 'til I'd "grown" a rat tail as long as Aimee's!

  • I used to get a lot of nookie to this song in the 80s. I hate getting old. I want to be in my 20s again living in the 80s.

  • This song brings back memories of doing lines with Amy at the club in Brockton Mass behind the westgate mall. What was its name?

  • Saw her half a year ago. I called out VOICES CARRY!!, and she responded, "ah huh....apprently some of you lived in the 80's..."

  • Wow, I didn't she was that beautiful.

  • f**ck! And i was fancyn Nena in those days,...but Aimee kicks the shite out of Nena!

    greetings from frg, europe.

  • This song is so entwined with my final high school memories because it came out my senior year.

  • damn i have always loved this tune... what a woman!

  • This is awesome. It relates to my life in the mid 1980's.

  • Butterfly: IS A WINGED CREATURE CREATED BY CREATION, AND THE CREATOR OF THE CREATION IS CALLED IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE “GOD!” It can be “SCARY” because “VOICES CARRY!” Greetings is a Hi! “EYE” 5

  • I thank God for making Aimee Mann, a creation gone horribly *magnificent* I would say.

  • WINGS! YES! 5

  • Wings should grow out of her back and she should be flying around sprinkling pixie dust upon everyone, tinkerbell in the flesh...

  • Aimee be thy name. I have carried this for so long. Closely.

  • Aimee Mann is definitely....most definitely...............an ELF! And a beautiful one at that!

  • This is haunting man, so many memories.

Wish I could feel some things again

  • if i was my age i would marry you Aimee

  • terry and dale bozzio, gems, baby gems

  • Beautiful song and she also ;0

  • Beautiful Voice!

  • This song gave me strength & help me through a bad time in my life... I LOVE this song!!! :)

  • Epic performance. For me, sums up the 80s...

  • she can't smile when she sings this song, it's too real for her, too sad

  • Que buena voz.....

  • La amo. I love you forever.

  • Btw I thought the guitarist was a chick too in this vid, but had a brain fart. I remembered it was three dudes and a chick on bass. Being a bassist I love it! Memories of the 80's.

  • The guitarist kicks butt here live! Much better than the record. More melody and harmony with the lead singers bass line. Like they've done it enough times to add a little something that just makes it better. I Love this!

  • That's a guy on the guitar Schim.

  • who is the other chick guitar player, her guitar sounds good

  • just so much fun to watch , young pretty & blond ...and new wavin' along .

  • i love the lyrics and the melody :-) so gorgeous...

  • i love the lyrics and the melody :-)

  • Voices carry, through decades

  • i want to kiss her square on those teeth

  • I conquer kudos

  • perfect example of why the 80's was the best decade for music. she is actually singing and not over-vocalizing all the time, AND playing bass, AND has stage presence..... total love and respect for her, AMAZING talent.

  • Ahhhh the memories this song brings back!!! Gosh, she looks gorgeous here as well.

  • I swear, Aimee looks so great here and rocks so hard it ends me in to hormone overload

  • Wow!

  • That hair was its own sentient being!

  • @FoxIslandman Had to go there, didn't you? Well, speaking as a Retired Tattooed AND Pierced Sailor, I'm going to paraphrase an old saying: Do you know what the difference is between people WITH tattoos and piercings and people WITHOUT tattoos and piercings? People WITH tattoos and piercings won't give you crap for NOT having tattoos and piercings. With that said, I will continue to practice my various forms of "self- mutilation" with the subliminal reasoning of shocking people like ... you.

  • Great clip I loved this song when it came out and it still rocks, it has stood the test if time.

  • Her face is sublimely beautiful. An artist could not sculpt a face so beautiful. OMG, she's just perfect! I can imagine that just being near her would have felt like basking in radiance!

  • @peacefuljeffrey EEEEzy Bro'....I mean, she's alright'

  • They rocked .

  • Anyone got a time machine?? I would love to go back to the 80s!

  • This was my generation and this song was just so freaking BAD ASS ! great song, very representative of the New Wave movement.

  • @FoxIslandman Did you ever think, just for a second, that there are some truly productive members of society that have had tattoos done strictly for the sake of self expression? And they did so in a completely sound and sober state of mind? MOST reputable tattoo shops won't grace you with timeless artwork if you're under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Did you ever stop to think for a second that some of us had our tattoos done with the subliminal reasoning of shocking people like ... you??

  • I hope this isn't stupid of me without looking up the singer. But I thought The Motels sang this song. Though at the time I knew of her I didn't know much of her off the top of my head but she's the woman in the Rush video "Time stands still". Anyways everyone over 40 should remember this song. But I always thought it was The Motels who sang it. It's weird trying to recall shit. my memory is shit. Now I have to look it up.

  • @crassology the motels sang 'suddenly last summer' and 'only the lonely' among others, but those two songs were their biggest hits. also, check out Remember the Nights..

  • I saw them in Memphis at the Antenna Club in about 1985 or 86. Aimie rocked back then. Saw her in 94 in Cleveland and she rocked. Saw her in 95 and she still rocked. Saw last year (2010) and she still rocks. Lets face it, she rocks .

  • an ecstasy of sorrow comes and goes on her face as she sings - who is she thinking of?

  • wow its amazing how she has evolved over the years. I wanna hug her!

  • I saw a video of someone singing this song, saying it was about child abuse. Wha? I think that songs and art should mean whatever you personally want, but Child Abuse?

  • @tomdownard4179

right, it's about girl friend abuse - pretty much emotional in nature, according to the lyrics - bad enough though; a friend said to me if you love someone, treat them wonderfully - if not, leave. One of the few all-or-nothing propositions in the world that I can get behind :)

  • Great pop song, reminds me of when MTV played music. The 80's were pretty grim musically though.

  • I can't tell if those are tatoo's on her legs. No ink on her upper torso. Great song.

Great singer. I watched this video on MTV over and over.

  • @tomdownard4179 I cannot say for sure, but they look like patterned pantyhose.

  • I loved the hair!!! Aimee Mann will always rock!!!

  • Wish i was old enough to see her live back then!

  • Aimee is an amazing writer and performer.

  • Damn, Aimee is freakin hot in this video! Her beauty still amazes me, wow!

  • Wow, so amazing, fell in love when she adjusted the amp ;)

  • wow, no wonder I love this song, music was soo awesome when I was born haha ;)

  • Nothing to say more than: "EPIC!!!"

Makes me feels back to 80's...

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  • I love the angry look on her face from 1:14 to 1:19.

  • @YTPorn Me too! I also like the "head dip" at 1:07.

  • OMG! Aimee Mann is in the latest episode of Portlandia!

  • Great guitarist, Robert Holmes.

  • Shes a good live performer WOW

  • damn shes so white!!

  • you think Ged would have showed her how to play the bass, sing and play keyboards all at the same time......

  • Its just so brilliant

  • Loved her. We were front row and I don't think security was up front. No one was makin a ruckus. Proper acting audience!!

  • I remember seeing them play this song at Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia MD in 1984 opening for either Billy Idol or Tom Petty. Help! I can't remember :(

  • good song

  • Aimee'ss mesmerizing...

  • 11 people whimper so low, their voices do NOY carry...

  • Love it waaaaaaay more when she plays bass than guitar =pp

  • We would play this track on our break from our rock/heavy metal band back in the day. This song rocks! I love Aimee Mann, what a presence. How many people i know thought the name of this song was "Boys are scary" Great song. God bless the 80's!

  • Love you Aimee Mann.

  • Thanks VHi and youtube , I was looking for this song, since long time ago, the best band, greetings from north of mexico..

  • the best band in the 80s aimee shes the best

  • I just love Aimee Mann, she is so talented

  • I am 39 years old (fuck you all, yeah it sucks) and this is one of my top ten songs that hits me in a hyper-nostalgic way when I think of the happiest times of my life: the early 80's. SO glad this song was also included in one of my favorite movies of all time, "Donnie Darko"... Thanks for the post!

  • Love this song!!! Thanks for the post.

  • aimee have the most crazy-beauty eyes in the all world, god bless you..........

  • Top 40 artist still today. On tour. Hope to catch her in Lakewood, NJ in two weeks. The Strand is amazing to see an artist of her abilities.

  • Outstanding! What a voice!

Simple song with a simple message.

    Wow she can sing!

  • なつかしいね。MTV見てた頃。LPの時代だからね。

  • i love aimee!

  • GREAT PERFORMANCE, SHE CAN REALLY ROCKS..............NO ARTIST LIKE HER NOWDAY

  • I fucking love this song. Like a hot shower on a cold morning, it makes me feel good

  • @ajawofcopan it's a great song but I don't know if a song about an abusive relationship really makes me feel "good". To me it's a pretty dark song.

  • @ajawofcopan Take it easy darkside. Your scary

  • @ajawofcopan

    me too :-)

  • today it is all about LOOKS and MONEY and GOLD CHAINS..............I am glad I was able to experience music that rocked....I am in my 40s and I feel there will never be rock icons that kids want to look up to positively. Todays so called artists can't even read music yet alone read period..

  • awesome nothing less!!!!

  • Even though the hair was a really bad style back then, their were a lot of female musicians that did make some really good music. We DO need more women like that today.

  • @REYALSREIGN the hair wasnt that bad....i prefer curl and some of the styles then more than i do than whats today....

  • Nice. lady Gag... eat your heart out.

  • really pulled this off live.big fan of Amy's anyway.

  • =D i like this.. i had no idea this song was from Aimee Mann... I really like the Magnolia soundtrack ill have to check her older stuff out

  • Esta chica ROCKS!!!

  • guess ya hadda be there

  • Hi Feanorlives,

By horrible subject matter I mean the abusive relationship the narrator of the song is in. In the official video it's very plain that the guy is at the very least - a major control freak. Listen to the lyrics, the story is all there.

Aimee is just brilliant in her words describing what is happening, particularly in the bridge. The guy doesn't want a partner or companion, he wants a Stepford Wife. He wants her to hush, hush and not tell anyone about the relationship.

    Mil

  • @MilSepic60 OK.Totally understand you now!!

  • @MilSepic60 I thought that the lyrics were orginally about two women being together, and that one of the women was telling the other to "hush, hush" and not let anyone know, something that homosexuals at the time were still dealing with. It was the record company that asked the band to change the lyrics for mass-market consumption.

  • @doublemandala

Don't think the homosexual thing would have been an issue by the mid 80's. Wasn't this the heyday for Bronski Beat, Frankie goes to Hollywood Boy George? And I can't see Mann buckling under whatever the record company asked for in terms of changing her lyrics. I imagine she would have told the suits to take a flying fart at the moon before changing a word. I see red if anyone tries to change my lyrics or anything that I wrote. Have to ask Aimee for the definitive answer.

  • @MilSepic60 from Wikipedia "The title song was originally sung by a woman to a woman, but due to record company pressure for less controversial lyrics it was changed to be sung to a man. "

  • @doublemandala

Wow. Checked that entry and I'm still surprised that she'd change the lyric. The change is still a good dig at the record company execs who asked for this since they're trying to keep her in line. I think the bridge words are something like, "He wants me if he can keep me in line." Priceless.

The way it was changed is still edgy to me because the guy doesn't want a person but a Stepford Wife.

  • Wonderful stuff. I can't believe that this was 25 years ago. Love the one handed keyboard playing/fist pumping. 'Til Tuesday rule. Aimee Mann rules.

  • I'm impressed, never saw 'Til Tuesday or Aimee Mann live (irl or on video), and that was great!

I've recently gotten into Mann and 'Til Tuesday, both great bands/artists. Always loved her vocals on Rush's Time Stand Still as well.

  • I bet tranny lady gag me (gaga) wishes she could jam like this..along with the other bullshit female singers out there today that all sound the same.DUNG.....Thank God for heavy metal!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent song, horrible subject matter but she dared and succeeded in putting it out in the open. Great vocals and the passion is right there on her face. The band is tight and right into it and playing hard to get it across. Have to check out Mann's later output. Proof that the 60's and 70's magic didn't die out, the younger generation just keeps it alive. Thanks Blanco for the posting.

  • @MilSepic60 What do u mean by horrible subject matter? Please explain?

  • Oh Lord -- whoever says women can't rock needs to hear this song. They took a great song and put a lot of muscle behind it. Great stuff!

  • Aint she cute , Aimee

  • she sang with RUSH,,she rulesss

  • I always thought she was hot and talented.

  • my favourite one

  • I'm starting to learn bass now, I want to learn this song and to shy by kajagoogoo.

a lot of artists make it look so easy playing bass/guitar and really it's not LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, she has a great voice also when speaking.

  • Don't forget, the song's lyrics were orginally about two women...great performance at any event, a song that quite encapsulates the mid-80's...

  • aimee mann is god's gift to us suffering mortals! long live aimee!

  • hot. just fucking hot

  • i've never seen this vd・・・ thanks anyway

  • how about excuses for skipping!

  • she makes the rush song and all she sings is time stands still, shes got alot of presence in her music

  • Yeah.....the good old times in the 80's...if not for youtube I would have forgotten this and other songs too...thanks for the memories....

  • Aimee's soundtrack work and effort since `Till is just amazing. Clearly, she has always been a cut above most songwriters and should be accorded that distinction.

    Deno Canellos

  • I DONT KNOW how many times i have see this video, i really like this sound. she looks talented , deep, beauty and strong.

  • typical bull shit gay 80's music

  • @troll9555 you're an idiot. Go listen to Justin Beiber, cumsack.

  • WOW a band that actually plays instruments and writes their own music, how f--ked up is that in this day and age. It's hard to believe that there actually used to be a time in the music industry when real bands existed.

  • Does anyone KNOWS .... ( sorry about the english)

  • Does anyone know what kind of synthesizer he's using? It's Analog, isn't it? It's too hard to emulate it =/

  • Funny, at that time people made fun of artists like her for being "weird". Compared to today where she'd be considered "normal". What's weird today becomes tomorrow's cool until somoene gets bored with it and trys to be "weird" to stand out from the crowd. Funny huh?

  • I just remembered this song again when I saw the movie 'sky high' in tv today... Yeaah, the fond memories... TQ 4 uploading this video...

  • check out cyndi lauper "all through the night" live paris '87. same thing. she's not playing an instrument, but she sings her @#$%$ off. (both using sm57's by the way)

  • If you watch the movie "Mystery Men" with Jeanie Garrafalo and Benstiller and Paul Ruben, near the end of the movie Jeanie Garrafallo talks to the camera telling people to support Independent Music and film. That is one place you will find the new ladies of Rock !

  • So true falconwings..................

  • Who else thought the lyrics were-Hush Hush, Bend down, Chug on something hairy? Boy I need a hearing check!

  • Aimee's the BEST!!

  • just great, saw her live in melbourne for the first time and was blown away

  • simply one of the best classics of the 80s ever.

  • Check out 1:19 - the keyboardist on the right is REALLY into it! Haha, awesome song!
