  • Is this a Nesmith song? It does sound similar to Auntie Grizelda. I know he didnt write that but I hear that song in it. This does have a Nesmith vibe to it as well

  • I can't believe there isn't a full concert (video) of the Monkees from 67. I mean you can go out buy concert videos from The Beatles, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Who etc. Why didn't anyone think to record The Monkees live?

  • @Yeseniaschick Beats me :)

  • The guitar with the distinctive snarl - it particularly stands out on Circle Sky '68 and on their HQ jam of Memphis Tennessee - is that Mike's Gretsch or his Blacjk Beauty Gibson?

  • @STP43FAN1 That's his Gretsch 12 string hollowbody into a Vox Super Beatle. The picture is from that very concert.

  • @mewrth Thank you. That guitar's snarl is chilling.

  • wow this is amazing quality! what is this from? i'd love to have this show

  • @LeeJDiamond I posted this show complete on my channel :)

  • the recording is muddy because the engineers recorded this in mono and only two track recorder was used. Lead guitar and drums are all we get from this soundboard recording. The rest of the concerts recorded during this tour have better audio.

  • @pachacutti Actually this is the only remaining recording from the winter 66/67 tour of the US. The other recordings are from the summer 67 US/UK tour. I posted this concert in full (7 parts) check out my channel. Thanks for your informative comments.

  • @mewrth

you are correct, these were recorded on a monographic recorder by crew member WInton Teel. The summer of 1967 concerts used professional 4 track equipment produced by Hank Cicalo.

  • for a moment in the beginning mike was playing what sounded like he was starting to play shes a woman by the beatles

im they would of pulled it off rather well if they covered it

  • @dadadruma Hey you have a point here! BTW, if you come across the 'summer 1967 the complete us concert recordings' box set you can hear Peter Tork doodling 'Act Naturally' on his keyboard between two songs on one of the sets.

  • SUPER! Never thought I'd hear The Monkees doing this live - I thought no tapes survived. Great find!

  • @tamioftroy Yes the tapes survived allright. Allthough you only hear the vocals very slightly or not at all, depending on wich tune. This live is the earliest Monkees concert existing (that we know of at least). The setlist also included 'Take a Giant Step', 'Papa Gene's Blues' and 'I Can't Get Her Off of My Mind', the only live versions of these tunes available. I might post the whole concert even if it's very raw. Thanks for the comment.
