A likely reason for the banning was that the images depicting burn victims and funeral pyres evoked similarities to the widely circulated images taken in liberated Nazi concentration camps.[99]
Imagery of the atomic bombings was suppressed in Japan during the occupation[98] although some Japanese magazines had managed to publish images before the Allied occupation troops took control. The Allied occupation forces enforced censorship on anything "that might, directly or by inference, disturb public tranquility", and pictures of the effects on people on the ground were deemed inflammatory.
@whoarethebrainpigs people knew the bomb had been dropped obviously..but the propaganda machine did not allow images of the devastation and tried to downplay the extent of it. its not that hard to suppress even in this day and age.
@AbagOfonions That is the nature of propaganda. As a side note, other bombing attacks during WW2 were a lot worse. eg firebombing Dresden and Hamburg.
Respond to this video... The initial positive response was supported by the imagery presented to the public (mainly the powerful mushroom cloud) and the censorship of photographs that showed corpses incinerated by the blast as well as photos of maimed survivors.[93]
Respond to this video... A 1944 opinion poll that asked what should be done with Japan found that 13% of the U.S. public were in favor of the extermination of all Japanese: men, women, and children.[91][92] .News of the atomic bombing were greeted enthusiastically in the U.S.; a poll in Fortune magazine in late 1945 showed a significant minority of Americans wishing that more atomic bombs could have been dropped on Japan.[93]
@funbunion Hiroshima and Nagasaki are 2 of the most cruel terrorist attacks ever commited by men.... I don't understand how u can defend such cowadice.... The cities was not even military targets!!! A nation built on fear is dangerous and i thinhk that the only real terrorist state worth mentioning today is the U.S.A.....
@funbunion I flat refuse to believe this was necessary to kill innocent men women and children. Most of the people who comment on this video defending this are from the US. I ask you to step back from the loyalty of your country and think this over. There is no evidence that anything was going to happen in to the continental US by the Japanese. It is an accepted fact that Japans operations were winding down. This was the moment the USA held the gun to the worlds head which still exists to day.
@gingerbhoy Hiroshima made no more sense than the London Blitz or the Holocaust. It is all the same shade of ugly. Wiki:During the war "annihilationist and exterminationalist rhetoric" was tolerated at all levels of U.S. society; according to the UK embassy in Washington the Americans regarded the Japanese as "a nameless mass of vermin".[90] Caricatures depicting Japanese as less than human, e.g. monkeys, were common
@gingerbhoy I can see where you're coming from. "Hey let's nuke Japan, and since they'll need our HELP when that's over--it'll be much easier for us to occupy that country, establish a democracy and maintain a U.S. military presence in Asia! Whala!"
@MrHolocaustianity Why would you nuke a country you intend to occupy? You'd want to maintain the normal workings of the city. Broken roads/rail, destroyed ports, no hospitals, no workforce would be massive problems. The last thing you'd want is displaced people and destroyed cities to deal with. Not to mention issues with contamination.
@clearlogicify True. At the same time we did nuke Japan. And what happened after that? We *occupied* it--because we wanted to "help" rebuild Japan from the rubble.
In Post-WWII they became our allies to combat the Soviet threat.
@MrHolocaustianity Contradiction from your last post. Did they occupy the cities they bombed, as you suggested last time. Last time you stated they used bombs to allow the US to occupy those zones without resistance. Now you say they used the bomb so they could help rebuild Japan, but they really wanted to use it as a base for operation against the Soviets.
"In Post-WWII they became our allies to combat the Soviet threat." - So simplified it's beyond retarded.
When you occupy a country, you naturally influence its people. You have a military force there to keep the Japanese company until the Japan military is once against revived to combat the Soviet threat--most likely forever. There are 3 US bases currently in Japan.
My thinking is that high-ranking American leaders knew this a long way ahead of time.
"became our allies to combat the Soviet threat" - Just like that, huh? Prev day, men jumping under advancing US tank with mines strapped to them, the next, they want to help the US.
You have any idea of the system ruling Japan before and after the war?
Logic will always be your problem, and for all conspiracy theorists.
@clearlogicify No "logical failure" too. Japan was nuked because Americans leaders knew hundreds of thousands of American soldiers would die against the onslaught of virtually the entire Japan civilian and military population. An extension of WWII was not in anyone's interest. Note Japan fantacism. This is fact.
Any more contradictions because that is all you can think of?

White Light, Black Rain. I had watched that documentary. The survivors of the blasts are labeled by it. Not pity or honor, but of embarrassment. That's how the survivors are looked upon in Japanese culture. Only the youth view them differently.
@birchdryadgirl The survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are reminders that Japan was defeated. That is why they are looked down upon in Japan by older Japanese.
As awful as this strike was, it was actually the lesser of two evils. The other option was to make a frontal attack on japan, which from experience we knew the japanese would fight to the last man, with both sides losing hundreds of thousands, if not millions of soldiers. Even with this strike, the US could have done worse. They intentionally did not attack Tokyo, because of the massive casualties that would cause.
@killa432546 Japanese casualties were expected to be in the millions. The whole operation was called "Operation X Day." They were preparing for the largest invasion in human history, when Truman was told of something that might end the war quickly. That is when he was told about the Manhattan Project. No matter what people think it was the best choice. A few hundred thousand or Millions of people. Plus Russia was preparing forces as well. Imagine Japan being split in two after the war.
@rbh1138 They could have easily drop this shit somewhere else, without killing people. This was only to show and gain power for many years to come, not only towards Japan, Japan was meaningless, SO yes, "Truman was told" to keep going with the main plan. Pearl Harbour was made by the US, same as 9/11. THIS was needless. But the US will keep fucking things up just for their own wealth and economic power. After Fuel Oil, water and food--> Next stop, South America! ;)
I never post anything but I felt I would get on here and let you know that you did an amazing job with this video. It adds a lot of feeling to the song.
it's hard for me to fathom the immense lack of compassion one must have to actually follow through on the orders to annihilate a massive quantity of humans with the drop of a single bomb. I wonder how this person faired, psychologically, for the rest of his days on earth.
@boston1977boston He was proud of it. Not sure about the rest of the crew. Paul Tibbets - "I'm proud that I was able to start with nothing, plan it, and have it work as perfectly as it did... I sleep clearly every night." "If you give me the same circumstances, I'd do it again."
@boston1977boston Morals go out if the window when it comes to war - that will never change. The press and public opinion have more and more influence over the actions of the military these day and hopefully it will stay that way. Almost anything is expendable to the military without checks, friendly or hostile.
@RogertheDon Both bombs would have been used anyways, it was political. One of the main reasons was to warn Russia. the vacuum of power in Europe could easily been filled with Soviet control. Japan was in the process of surrender before the bomb was used. Well known. They needed to test it on a city and see the results.
@mcallen83 Actually, Japan refused to surrender at the time, for weeks before the bomb we flew planes droppign leaflets to the people warning them to surrender or we would level the city, they paid no heed, so we did what we said we woudl do.
@ponyfang You mean civilians paid no heed? You know it was a country controlled by an emperor. Civilians had no say at all and all they thought was what they were told to think. The Japanese could not fight much longer and it's well documented that "surrender" was the only option. The bombs where little more than tests and threats to the Soviets. The second bomb was a vast improvement over the first. Why do you think they picked 2 civilian targets?
@mcallen83 Actually they bombed Nagasaki because of a problem with the aircrafts fuel, or soemthing along the lines of fuel, even though it was a logn range aircraft, Im not one hundred percent sure, But They were detered from their other target and had to bomb nagasaki not that they HAD to, but they refused to surrender even after the first bomb on hiroshima.
@ponyfang Nagasaki was bombed 5 times in the leading to the 2nd bomb. It was worthless as a military target at that point. I know it wasn't the primary target. It was pretty much a test site to determine whether a uranium or plutonium based bomb do more damage.
@ponyfang Never? Death of Hitler? Death after a terrible cancer? Death in a concentration/labor camp? Death of an oppressive ideology? Death of religions?
Must be specific. Sometimes death is more noble and honorable than life. Sacrifice can mean death so that others can live.
Fantastic work my friend, it went quite well with the film. This gives me a pain in my heart that our race has been doing such things for hundreds of years, ever since we've been on this earth. Why can we not have peace? It makes me feel sorry we cant. Im not sure we will ever have true peace, but we can always Hope. (Btw, the sunset at the end was magnificantly beautiful) 5 Stars if Youtube still had em. Bravo.
Just want to say that this video is brilliant and it really brings home the horror of war and why we can't let it happen again. Everyone should see this video.
I'm probably going to get thumbs down like there is no tomorrow but, they were given the opportunity to avoid this. Agreeing to Potsdam could have changed history. They picked a fight; we finished it.
Funny....how people forget about things like the Sino-Japanese war. Millions of Chinese civilians were killed.
The point is, every country has blood on its hands. Its just the way things are. Throughout history we take turns.
war or the threat of war makes rich people richer, end of story. how much has the whole of humanity developed? . A majority of the human population havent used a telephone. We are the lucky ones!
Sick bastards dropping bombs onto civilians in the past, and dropping bombs on civilians now in Iraq/Afghanistan... 5 million orphans in Iraq currently... When will the inhumanity stop?
You're comparing WW2 to a current and very different war.
The first A-bomb can kinda be justified (for the period), 2nd I'm not so sure (more political). The true horror from this weapon is not the massive destruction and civilians killed, but the radiation deaths/burns just after and the cancers/deformities even till today.
War or the threat of war allows advances in humanity. Strange irony.
It's not about wants. It's about need for stability. Advances in humanity come in times of stability. Stability comes post-war. Tension builds in time of stability, till the point of release. It's not a good thing, just natural. Leads to shifts in geographic rule, which can be healthy. As in British control early 20th Century to US control post ww2.
Had the Germans won ww2 then we would have had great stability and progression in humanity then. Could have also been the Soviets post ww2.
@junkbx3r Are you telling me that you are naive? Do you follow politics, or history? Watch documentaries or follow unbiased world news? By "Sick bastards" I am referring to people who are inhumane, and act upon their urges to oppress others...
@JaredDeinlein well i pitty you for that sir. I personally dont give a shit. It happens, its life and, in the end it doesnt really matter. Humanity needs to just die anyway and hey shit like that is good population control.
@mcallen83 lol I'm sad for you will never know. I'm sad that people have become so weak. Worthless? You kind of contridict yourself on your beliefs dipshit. All lives to you have value. SO why dont you go and stick the dick back in your mouth and shut the fuck up you pansy ass hippie wood pushing faggot.
@rhetoric09 It's not a belief and yes, you are indeed sad. We cannot change the abuse you've suffered as a child or remove your fear of being discovered as a homosexual. Be thankful we tolerate your kind these days, hippies have helped you more than any government. Best of luck with your recovery and acceptance from family. Remember, it's not abnormal. Be happy and try to work on the self hatred.
@mcallen83 i suffered no such abuse. I just dont tolerate a lot of things and that includes faggots, liberals, hippies and, mooncrickets. Sorry that you're weak. So stfu before I smack you across the face with your moms menstral cycle.
@rhetoric09 Really, it's never too late to seek help man, denial is a powerful thing. You really can recover from this. Best of luck and I'm sorry for you. The inner hate and warped view of the world will diminish, just takes work.
Years ago I went to film school to write and found that I loved editing, largely because I love music so much. This brought all that passion flooding back to me. The music, the footage, the emotion, the meaning. I love Mogwai. I love that we are sentient beings. Thanks for this. Brilliant. Chilling.
this is my absolute favorite mogwai song. thank you for this video, it's amazing. the song alone is enough for me to shed a tear, but even more so with this video. thank you again!!
exellent video man!!! i think americans are not idiots, the fuckin goverment is idiot, they sucks for all that killing. (sorry if my english is bad, i´m from argentina).
again, exellent video and exellent song, i like so much mogwai.
@mearsc Fuck off idiot you've got no idea. What the fuck does 'understanding other cultures' have to do with WW2? That war was an absolute nightmare. And that bomb didn't just come out of a clear blue sky, you know. The Japanese emperor and his advisers pretty much ensured that this would happen, they only surrendered after another A-bomb to got dropped- on Nagasaki. But no, you'd just like to blame America for this. You simplistic prick.
Awesome video! history will be subjective. it's only as accurate as though who teach us. Just a note: the japanese army beheaded more people during the war than died in both hiroshima and nagasaki combined. never get your history from movies or videos for that matter.
At the present time I am an assistant sound engineer to a guy who told me the other day that he did the sound for Mogwai back in the day during a tour they were on with another band. He only told me this cause i was wearing a Mogwai tee-shirt and was totally unaware how big they have become. How strange life can be. Glad you enjoyed the video

Just want to say that this video is brilliant and it really brings home the horror of war and why we can't let it happen again. Everyone should see this video.

i have no doubt in my mind that the dropping of the atomic bombs during world war II was the best decision made throughout the war.

For every Atomic bomb we dropped back.. Is what we received back in 9/11..

"They picked a fight; we finished it" could be said by the Viet Cong also?
mcallen83 1 year ago
I'm probably going to get thumbs down like there is no tomorrow but, they were given the opportunity to avoid this. Agreeing to Potsdam could have changed history. They picked a fight; we finished it.
Funny....how people forget about things like the Sino-Japanese war. Millions of Chinese civilians were killed.
The point is, every country has blood on its hands. Its just the way things are. Throughout history we take turns.
DilutePeople 1 year ago
but people prefer to hear "Sick bastards dropping bombs onto civilians in the past, and dropping bombs on civilians now in Iraq/Afghanistan"
Unable to understand war/conflict and why it happens. I guess life from under your childhood bed blankets is a lot easier.
mcallen83 1 year ago
The German people that ignored the treatment of Jews before and during ww2 had blood on their hands?
Are you suggesting civilians are innocent vs the governments that go to war?

Sick bastards dropping bombs onto civilians in the past, and dropping bombs on civilians now in Iraq/Afghanistan... 5 million orphans in Iraq currently... When will the inhumanity stop?
JaredDeinlein 2 years ago 21
You're comparing WW2 to a current and very different war.
The first A-bomb can kinda be justified (for the period), 2nd I'm not so sure (more political). The true horror from this weapon is not the massive destruction and civilians killed, but the radiation deaths/burns just after and the cancers/deformities even till today.
War or the threat of war allows advances in humanity. Strange irony.
mcallen83 2 years ago
well why would we wanned to advance to keep destroying the world?? well that not good man but we.
chelom 1 year ago
It's not about wants. It's about need for stability. Advances in humanity come in times of stability. Stability comes post-war. Tension builds in time of stability, till the point of release. It's not a good thing, just natural. Leads to shifts in geographic rule, which can be healthy. As in British control early 20th Century to US control post ww2.
Had the Germans won ww2 then we would have had great stability and progression in humanity then. Could have also been the Soviets post ww2.
mcallen83 1 year ago
@JaredDeinlein what is that supposed to mean? Who are these 'sick bastards' to which you refer?
junkbx3r 1 year ago
@junkbx3r Are you telling me that you are naive? Do you follow politics, or history? Watch documentaries or follow unbiased world news? By "Sick bastards" I am referring to people who are inhumane, and act upon their urges to oppress others...
JaredDeinlein 1 year ago
@JaredDeinlein so, you mean all of us human beings, then? I'd agree with that.

@rhetoric09 Apparently I care... I'm a humanist.
JaredDeinlein 1 year ago
@JaredDeinlein well i pitty you for that sir. I personally dont give a shit. It happens, its life and, in the end it doesnt really matter. Humanity needs to just die anyway and hey shit like that is good population control.
rhetoric09 1 year ago
@rhetoric09 Funny way to think about 911. I would not agree with you, but for some people, life is worthless. As it seems you are indeed worthless.
mcallen83 1 year ago
@mcallen83 lol I'm sad for you will never know. I'm sad that people have become so weak. Worthless? You kind of contridict yourself on your beliefs dipshit. All lives to you have value. SO why dont you go and stick the dick back in your mouth and shut the fuck up you pansy ass hippie wood pushing faggot.
rhetoric09 1 year ago
@rhetoric09 It's not a belief and yes, you are indeed sad. We cannot change the abuse you've suffered as a child or remove your fear of being discovered as a homosexual. Be thankful we tolerate your kind these days, hippies have helped you more than any government. Best of luck with your recovery and acceptance from family. Remember, it's not abnormal. Be happy and try to work on the self hatred.
mcallen83 1 year ago
@mcallen83 i suffered no such abuse. I just dont tolerate a lot of things and that includes faggots, liberals, hippies and, mooncrickets. Sorry that you're weak. So stfu before I smack you across the face with your moms menstral cycle.
rhetoric09 1 year ago
@rhetoric09 Really, it's never too late to seek help man, denial is a powerful thing. You really can recover from this. Best of luck and I'm sorry for you. The inner hate and warped view of the world will diminish, just takes work.

Years ago I went to film school to write and found that I loved editing, largely because I love music so much. This brought all that passion flooding back to me. The music, the footage, the emotion, the meaning. I love Mogwai. I love that we are sentient beings. Thanks for this. Brilliant. Chilling.

mearsc 3 years ago 5
@mearsc Fuck off idiot you've got no idea. What the fuck does 'understanding other cultures' have to do with WW2? That war was an absolute nightmare. And that bomb didn't just come out of a clear blue sky, you know. The Japanese emperor and his advisers pretty much ensured that this would happen, they only surrendered after another A-bomb to got dropped- on Nagasaki. But no, you'd just like to blame America for this. You simplistic prick.

Awesome video! history will be subjective. it's only as accurate as though who teach us. Just a note: the japanese army beheaded more people during the war than died in both hiroshima and nagasaki combined. never get your history from movies or videos for that matter.
sprunknmn 3 years ago
Two wrongs make a right, eh?
Japanese army did one thing so it's fine to do this to civilians.
Many atrocities were committed by all the worlds armies at one time or other, doesn't make this right or less of an atrocity.
