  • Great rendition of an old and classic traditional. You add a real warmth to it.

  • thank you again.. M:)

  • Wow, what a beautiful and soulful performance of one of my favorite old hymns. Love your playing and vocals. And thanks so much for the sub. I'm returning the favor. :) Janet

  • i enjoyed some of your songs this morning too.. great contribution.. mike

  • ...Mike ..I've been askin a few tubers for this but not on their reportoire so far....Any chance of Ichycoo park?

  • ichycoo park is a rare breed of song and i'm not sure how it would translate into the 'folk/acoustic idium of today. The small faces put in two disctinct vocal parts and the phased guitar and heavy drum makes it the iconic 'hippy' sound of the sixties.. a challange for anyone to take on..

  • Are you on vacation or ...? Cmon Lad....your turn. Round the house and mind the dresser.

  • Hi Damian.. yes not far wrong.. taking a sabbatical inside my musical head.. time to wake up.. looking up flights... ('this flight tonight' is pure magic).... as we speak.. lol.. good man..

  • @ichingiching Every day above ground is a good day. (Three of my son's twenty year old companions have killed themselves in the last month, in Sunny England,)

  • too true.. .. there is so much sadness in the world.. every breath is precious..and so is every life..

  • I've missed your music soooo much, I know the 'net' is a gobbler of everything and I still listen to this (and loads of your other tracks) regularly but any new uploads are eagerly awaited.

Free my soul on Filey Brig, or Stoodley Pike or Blea Moor trig .....................

  • yes i need to get to stoodley pike this weekend to clear my head.. free my soul indeed my good friend..

  • spectacular! loved it

  • thanks.. just looked through some of your songs too.. really great.. I will revisit soon to drop you a note..

  • Gorgeous , simply gorgeous!!

    Thanks for this treasure:)

  • Hi John, i've taken a sabbatical for a few months and come back you your kind comment.. makes me want to pick up my guitar again.. Regards..

  • Very lovely guitar work!

  • thanks you...

  • Hope you're not having to work too hard and that you can get more time for great music such as this. You truly touch the heart and soul with your singing & playing. Best wishes - from Buster's Friends - AKA - "The Alleygators"

  • hi.Bustersfriends .. nail and head come to mind.. just work and stuff.. mainly stuff!! Thank you for your heart warming words.. they are like a light.. kindness and regards Mike

  • Oh Mike...

This is breathtaking.....I do hope our paths cross sometime and you can show me how to play like you do.

Who is that poor sad person who didn't like this? - oh well it wouldn't do for us all to be the same

    Take care

    Marian

  • It would be a pleasure to share songs.. there is a song in crossing paths.. kind regards Mike

  • There is such a beautiful warmth to your guitar playing in this one...it gives me the same feeling as the sun on my skin in the first really warm day of spring. I could listen to you play for a very long time..

  • Hi Sharron.. this song (like many) has been with me for a very long time.. i like the humble beauty of the lines.. its also apt that the last few days.. (officially spring)? has been warm and sunny.. what a refreshing start to the day to wake up to sunlight.. thank you for your kindness and gentle words

  • Can't believe I missed this one Mike. Truly beautiful. Also thanks for all the signposting to other performers. Very enjoyable. You have impeccable taste. Still the coolest guy on the Tube. Health and happiness.

  • that’s very kind and thank you.. there are so many really good performers out there,.. each day i dip in and get blown away by the talent.. its life enriching.. I don't know about you, but I need that these days.. there is so much sadness at the moment.. regards Mike

  • I deeply enjoy listening to this beautiful rendition of this great hymn. It just doesn’t get any better. All the best, Karl

  • thanks Karl.. its such a simple song and yet the words are like a bottomless well.. thank you for dropping me such a kind note.. Miek M:))

  • ...amazing.

    As alyaws.

  • thanks :))

  • yes i'll try the key of F.. cheers

  • Whichever song I like best... You play F__king nice guitar. Sigh.

  • Still like your "My Creole Bell" best.

    No discussion.

  • Of course every one knows this song. Again I also heard it from Arlo. Which was more than pretty.

Yours has a beautiful feel as well.

    like it!

  • Hi Mike. I'm so glad you added your rendition to the myriads of others that have been done of this song. Yours seems heartfelt and sincere, and I love your guitar stylings. I have attached a rather different arrangement of the melody joined to a different lyric which I think, if properly listened to, should be a little disconcerting, but the message is nonetheless relevant and the warning worth heeding.

  • hey man that`s beautiful i`m a guy like you getting older but love to play those great old songs you shouldn`t happen to play streets of london i`m having a little trouble getting that one right and you sound a lot like ralph mctell he

  • hi gejuje .. yes i have played streets of london.. if you search for it on my play list you'll find it.. ohh and you might want to read my channel notes.. "i spent fifty years growing up.. now i'm going to spent the next fifty growing down.." you should try it.. its great fun.. and easier.. regards Mike

  • Great to hear such a pure and simple version of this song. God bless you!

  • kind words to wake up to...

  • Such a lovely arrangement! I truly enjoy all of your posts and commentary. It's great to see someone who is really enjoying music and sharing this with others!

  • thats a very kind note to wake up to.. i would like to say more but words are limited in expressing gratitude.. :).. thak you..

  • Your finger picking style is so great!

I also like your voice and guitar sound.

    So beautiful!

  • thank you MarchRunner .. the D41 is so sweet and gentle.. liked your channel

  • the first time I listened to this I had no words. I was at a moment of peace. Today your rendition of this is like a welcome comforting embrace.

  • they are the kindest of words.. i hope you have a bright and wonderful day.. M:)

  • thank you laura.. it salways lovely to get little notes. hope you day is good.. mike

  • Just beautiful Mike...as always. So soulful and deeply spiritual.

  • Wonderful job Mike! Great reworking of an old classic. Have you ever thought of submitting your stuff to a publisher? After all... if Susan Boyle can make it, you certainly can! Always the best....

  • thank you and i'm smiling.. there wouldn't be enough tomatoes to go round if i every found my way on stage...

  • @ichingiching No they wouldn't. You would be wonderful. Besides tomatoes are for making salad.

  • lol.. I love this evening.. I bought my own tomatoes today.. I could always throw them at myself..

  • @ichingiching .....lol....I wish had those tomatoes. I've just about got my car dug out of the snow and am headed to the market for among other things tomatoes. For eating. For some reason your comment made me see Billy Connally stop in the middle of a song and ask the audience to have patience while he pummels himself with tomatoes accompanied by witty sarcastic comments about rude audiences. Oh my ...no food for hours.....must get to the market.

  • you've given me the giggles.. i love Billy Connolly.. I can just imagine that... I never saw a tomato as a funny fruit..

  • Beautiful ! Beautiful ! Ian.

  • Awesome!

  • I love your style of playing and your raw-earthy singing. Keep posting!

  • Beautiful version of this wonderful gospel song!!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Excellent vocal, and guitar work!!--Lee

  • Great rendition of a gospel classic! :)

  • Wonderful guitar and singing! :)

  • What a lovely way to drift off to sleep. Thanks for all that you do for us Mike.

  • Stunningly beautiful. So many artists (& their auntie) have done a version of this song but this is by far and away the best and most heartfelt version I have ever heard - a fabulous example of less is more. No quasi-operatic multi-choral vocals, no huge orchestral accompaniment, simply one man and his best mate combined to produce a truly, truly wonderful piece of music. As ever, thanks Mike.

  • Great job! I love the Martin D-41.

  • Beautiful Mike. The guitar accompaniment was incredible!

  • Tremendous emotions conveyed, Mike! Just GREAT! Thanks again.

  • One of the most beautiful renditions of this song - thanks for going to the trouble of entertaining us all with this

  • beautiful picking... work of art...
