  • Am I the only one who keeps on repeating Q-Bert's bit from 10:06-10:33?

I know that bit isn't really all that impressive as far as professional DJ-ing is concerened given the simple technique involved, but man, did it SOUND GOOD!

  • @mahdogzbite If you like that... listen to him on that Dr. Octagon track where he scratch the same effect.

  • 24 people dont know wassup!!!

  • timeless!! no crew has ever pushed the battle forward since this!! ISP!!! X-MEN!!!

  • X-men were fun to watch & listen to... Piklz got boring after a while.

  • ISP if there's any dought...from 16:00 on

  • They were part of this whole turntablist movement, cats nowadays are rippin it up technical scratching with body tricks, so big up both crews for the inspiration.

  • With all due respect to both groups... who was the first groups name, and after reading the posts here, It's to be a semi split decision on who actually won the battle. Thanks

  • @albert333pool r u kidding?

  • @mzspeed3d NO, I'm not kidding and THANKS for the informative INFO! Stay up

  • @albert333pool first group: xmen became xecutioners, then Raida died a year ago. The most famous dj battle...before serato did everything automatically. Long live the pmc 05, 06 and 07isp.

  • Well Raida didn't actually die a year ago. It was in September. Both groups, X-Men and Invisible Skratch Pikls, both did their thing. The X-Men more about tricks and showmanship. The ISP more about sound and technique. For a final decision they need to have a video if Raida and Qbert went head to head

  • the first samples are in garden grove the the bigginig

  • Leaders Of The New School - spontaneous (13 mc's deep)

  • @jooce, the track Q starts with is by Leaders of the New Skool, can't remember track name but will post it once found!!

    ISP rocked dat shit!!

  • this battle shook the heavens and the earth!

    ISP LOVE!

    RIP ROC!

  • Roc Raida RIP

  • GREAT BATTLE... RIP ROC RAIDA

  • yo can any1 tell me what nwa record ''do u want some of this, hell no ''8:55'' & what ice cude record ''bitch its curtains'' came i really need that to cut up !!!

  • The NWA piece It's on the straight Straight Outta Compton album bruh The Cube piece Bitch It's Curtains i think it's on the "Westside Connection 12'" Westside Slaughterhouse bruh.

  • yo good lookin on that !!!

  • The "Bitch, it's curtains!" line is actually from "Now I Gotta Wet'Cha" from Ice Cube's The Predator, although it may have been sampled for Westside Connection (I stopped listening to Ice Cube around that time).

  • The "HELL NO,he replied" actually came from Dana Dane's track-Cinderfella Dana Dane.

  • ok good lookin too !!

  • 1 luv 4 eva roc raida a tru grand master and a gr8 friend let alone person

    .... BAS1

  • hands down, sickest battle EVER.. RIP Roc Raida

  • Oh for those who are wondering Roc Raida is Busta Rhymes Dj and still doing production. Roc eatin... gettin paid and still hasn't lost his adrenaline....Man somebody need to post the individual battles....so the X-men won't look like they didn't accomplish nothin.....Dem boys was jammin!

  • Comment removed

  • Its Qbert, Mix Master Mike, and Short Cut just to answer downundabruthahood question!!!

  • ISP sure made the Xmen look like Amateur's.

Holy shit, Mike looks so young!!

See he found that sound very early in his career.

That scratch @ 11.10 is bullshit. Did i just hear R2D2 swear at me????

    lololololololol......

I know thats Q on the left but wats the 3rd pikls name?? I can't remember now....does he still cut?

  • DJ Shortcut

  • Cheers for the reply man.

    Peace....

  • On a grand scale both crews have had a huge impact on the art of Djing...Don't get caught up in who is better because at the end of the day...both crews were influential.

  • exactly...

  • whats the intro of the x mens set

  • Comment removed

  • Intro is from the movie "Wild Style" battle between Cold Crush Brother and Fantastic 5.

  • here's raggabass talkin non-sense. get your dj info correct. the best turntablist out . all they need is the allies and the beat junkies to have a 4 way battle

  • skratch piklz all day, all night. cant ever be touched.

  • Classic! The battle of all battles!

  • tood davis rules.

  • xmen bumpin their heads like it sounds hella dope and shit. shits wack man.. LMAO!

  • worst dj in the worl .. wahahaha

  • X-Men--"ALL FLASH AND NO SMASH"!

ISP= Started a new genre of music as we know it today!

  • THANK U thats what ive been trying to tell ppl. they came up with the fresh sounds even froom way back when. they were the first group to start weird sounds but made it sound so clean. ISP GOD

  • wierd sounds yes, but as far as Mix master mike sounding clean........not even close...he's was the worse of the piklz

  • I think u better listen to MMM from 11.10.

A sound like that was unheard of in those early days of scratching. As for clean scratching, did u not notice @ 10.05, Q.bert lost it that bad, he had to scratch out a whole extra bar to catch up. To say MMM was the worst of ISP is an insult. That so called "weird sound" was all thanks to MMM. Q had the EXACT same sound, he's just taken it to another level. Now U set your fader curve to 50/50, then see if u can make your record sound like R2D2.

  • well i can see where you are coming from as far as this performance. i was a big pikls fan back in the day (i even met a few of them in person) however, MMM has skills sure, but ha can't make the same sound again and again if he had to record it (i have all his solo albums as well) ..........im not insulting the guy, but after being a fan and collecting their albums for so long, ive never seen/heard him beat juggle, nor skratch clean.

  • I love X-Men but here there's no comparison as to who's the best, ha ha. A dj group vs a dj symphony orchestra.

  • song at 12:05???

    hook it up yo

  • dj js-1 is true. dont over anaylize it. this is claasic momment. and both groups were fuckin amazing but i got give the main props to isp they were fukin holdin it down.. my favorite part in this video is were dj shortkut scratches the sample NO BODY TRICKS! that shit was hard and how they used t la rock with it. XMEN ARE TRUE TURNTABLIST. like total eclipse that dude got skills watch his videos from 1999 shits hard.

p.s. does anybody know what year this took place?

  • 1996

  • quality blows. i was there in the front row when they did this. they r all incredible djays, just totally different styles. for the two biggest crews to battle and then hang afterwards is saying something. today the biggest and best djays NEVER battle anyone for fear of losing. this was a classic moment, dont over analyze it...

rock steady crew in the building...

  • xmen murdered!

  • gents, you should take a look at C2C. diz Djs are fuckin' damned good. and one of them is even a hiphop singer in Hocus Pocus. 2 of dem also have a crew named beat torrent that rocks too...

  • for ISP that was just as regular as their jam sessions. fucking brilliant stuff.

  • I gots to admit, Q-Bert bust the baddest bassline on the cut.................

  • whats the song at 1.20

  • XMen's set was dope but it seems like they got their asses handed to them on a platter by their expressions after ISP's set. Seriously, they were like Damn! Did I just see that!

  • gay intro :D

    nice vid :D

  • gay intro what you on about. its off wild style! nothing about this video is gay

  • IM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE VID!

I LOVE THIS VID, Y did they include to say STUDIO JA, Studio JAM in the beggining?

    I hate the voice lmao

  • ha ha

  • YOU KNOW HOW THE WEST COAST DOES IT!!!!

  • I have this on vhs man...this was the vid that defined, at that point in turntablism, to me, the benchmark for what a turntablist should represent - a strong yet articulate technical form incorporating both beat juggling and skratching with great showmanship. ahh...the golden era...

  • This is true. I say it defined what a GROUP of competition DJ's should be like. My biggest gripe is how Mix Master Mike's time is pretty poor. Q Bert (although as a person isn't that great) is still the best scratch DJ in the world hands down.

  • This battle changed my life. Both crews are legends.

  • Yeah but the most entertained peeps in the place were the x-men when they got cut the fuck up by the west coast isp

  • nice ;D

  • mista grey day u fuckin poser, u dont know legends in turntablism? u probably was in elementary when these cats were doin the damn thing....lol

  • irrelevant.

    know good music.

  • X Men are not legends in turntablism. They were the scape goat to make ISP look even better. Their time was short when thought body tricks were a good idea. Where's Roc Raida now? Q Bert is still on top of him. Watch the 1993 DMC Worlds. Watch what Roc Raida says when he receives his reward and you'll see why he didn't deserve it. He later had to learn how to scratch in order to survive later in his career.

  • first group suck ass! 2nd group whooped thr ass!

  • "BITCH ITS CURTAINS!!" nuff said

  • YO ! what record or album Bitch its curt. come from i know its ice cube or nwa right but which 1 do you want some of this ''hell no he replied came from nwa also cant think which 1

  • it was a dj battle not an audition for bring it on...x-men were out classed...it looked like china trying to play the u.s. in basketball...elementary...ISP, no questions!

  • East coast beat jugglers vs. West coast scratchers.... love ISP, but I think X-men got that one. They had more showmanship...set was a little better too..

  • it took 2 X men to do the "rob base 1 2 3 get loose now" Q has been doin that since the 90's at 45 RPM EXACTLY THE WAY THEY DID IT! no originality what so ever. ISP FTW

  • ISP FOREVER!!!

  • iown know. i think ISP got em

  • isp is the shit. the best turntablists ever....there shit cant be touched.....i would of killed to see this live....if anyone wants the isp performance from this video its on vinyl called isp vs. klamz of death. classic shit. i think the invented group routines. west coast hip hop shit. much ups to east coast too. xmen are sick but isp has been my fav for years.

  • love the intro to this vid lol

  • Diamond J, not Diamond D

  • Diamond D.

  • Who's the 5th member with the Xmen??

  • Wolverine

  • a better quality version on " 1ofthebest.blog....."

    winning routines/world champions/best sets

  • ISP 15:45 - 16:45 first time i heard this my jaw dropped!

  • anyone know the sax sample sinista is using?

i need that fuckin groovy sound.... lol

  • best dj battle on vid of all time

q bert mixmaster mike and shortcut fucked them otha niagz up

  • + (I will add here that the middle-finger-throwing always annoyed me. Let the vinyl/your skills speak for themselves, youknowha'imean?) Thanks again for posting, StudioJamTV.

  • Amen. I had this VHS tape years ago. The quality was TERRIBLE. (A 4th generation copy or worse.) But I LOVED it. Loaned it to someone. Never got it back. Fortunately, before loaning it, I copied some of my favorite moments from a bunch of my DJ videos (e.g., Turntable TVs, DMC Summit, this one) onto another tape. But yeah, both teams snap in their own ways. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!

  • It's been awhile since I watched this battle yrs ago, but now that I take another look...Xmen is like an good aged wine. I think all styles of hip-hop should be appreciated and taken in context, meaning, I love the technical skills of ISP... but Xmen is just on time, smooth, and in rythm. I remember EPMD's dj, and how his technique was quick and involved like ISP,...but it always made me want to think and move-(So does dj qbert at times...most times maybe).

  • xmennn winnss

  • nigga is you crazy??????????? wins 2nd place maybe

  • Damn Jimmy Jam...post the 2nd part of this battle (the individual rounds!) I loaned my VHS tape of this battle and haven't seen it since. The X-men won the Individual battles. Mixmaster mike was weak solo and sloppy. Roc Raida, Qbert and Mr. Sinista kill'd it!!!

  • 16:00 hella nice..

  • QBert at 10:06... magic.

    ISP won this one BIG!

Mike could've cut down on the camera glansing and those stupid facial expressions though.

  • I remember this tape- man with the yellow cover and everything. This brings it back- def. one of my favorite battles of all time!

  • Can somebody please give me the name and artist of that song at 8:42? Thanks in advance

  • It's by Worse Em the song is called Triple M Bass came out in 1986 on profile.

  • dj jimmy jam iz tha man

  • never saw this one before--- this is a hell of a fresh JAM--- DAAAAAAAAAAAMN-Thank you for postin this----

  • invisible scratch piklz are ......wow.its nice.yeahhhh

  • snot wetta u winner loose iss how you played a gain mane

  • Man there just monkeying around!! smitten and spitten wid dare hands!! wicked
