  • ya, hp is great at making tabs...

  • This guy will say anything to get the masses off of XP. LOL

  • lololol, nuff said :) i love microsoft but this is really funny, love it when they talk about tablets and windows 7 together... lol :)

  • Ballmer looks like he could be a shift manager at a supermarket or Rite-Aid.

  • The start of that HP video made me think they were turning on a ps3...

  • Unicorns :)

  • Christ... That was a terrible, terrible presentation...

  • 1st: BEFORE this Keynote, Apple has released the iPad!

2nd: Microsoft is copying EVERYTHING what Apple releases!

This Vid shows how much Microsoft sucks!

And it's funny i think: Ballmer always says: " thisch(--- it's german XD) year

  • @MrDasNiveau I'm pretty sure the iPad was announced well after this presentation...

  • i hate the term 'form factor' with a passion

  • Ballmer couldn't sell AZT on Castro Street...his salesmanship sucks ass

  • Apple already did this :/

  • @nilsberg268129 This was before IPad was ever announced.

  • Why is he constantly screaming?

  • steve ballmer makes these products seem like not a big deal at all, maybe thats because he doesn't know much about them

  • I hate Steve Ballmer. What a despicable guy.

  • Ballmer doesnt realize that Apple holds a commanding lead in the "slate" department. Sure we are all excited, but nothing is groundbreaking. If this video came out a few years ago, before the Ipad was released, maybe then I would admire the products here. But they are settling for 2nd place, as usual, when it comes to groundbreaking technology in a small form factor.

  • @smithsil

This video did come out before the IPad was released, before it was even announced actually. It's not Apple so people don't piss their pants over it.

  • When so many tablets out there give you more, it is simply ignorant to choose a tablet lacking a feature you desire because you are committed to a name brand.

I like the way all the tablets look and the way the mobile industry is going... works great for me. If a person loves to video call, & CAN have flash. I find it dumb to excuse a products lack and trash the product with a feature you want but cannot get. (Even if you don't want, its nice to have because you never know where software leads)

  • I think the main thing that Ifans don't get is that Windows users/Android users/Blackberry users are not committed to a company like Apple users.

We really like the way a lot of Apple products look, we just desire more when it comes to specs. I for one love the way Apple designs their devices, Its good for consumers in so many ways, I just hate what they lack. I look at it as a serious competition and the winner will never be chosen by name alone.

  • I am tired of ballmer talking about Windows on slates. They have had windows on slates for a while now and no one wants them. But ballmer wants them on slates he is a determined man. Just a few problems that I have how do you type on that? crapy on screen windows standard keyboard? ipad's keyboard is touch optimized windows' is not how many Windows apps are touch oriented vs how many apps on ipad are touch oriented? balmer still does not get it.

  • @MrPrancinghorse I have two windows slates and I love them, they work great with all the software that I need and use daily. The keyboard I have found very easy to use. I find it unbelievable how so many users find it complicated, not touch optimized, or problematic. Oh well, glad I got mine before they start catering to the popular crowd and giving us less features like the Ipad (no card reader, no webcam, no flash).

I guess i'm with Balmer, I just don't get the Ipad. A truly limited tablet!

  • @mdtrue

Good for you! I think I am with a small number of people that do get the ipad and that number is 14.8 million (as of last three quarters). Windows slates are available for many years compare it with ipad. how many did they sell? It might be limited but I don't care it works for me and for 14.8 million users who are very happy with them! Nice try with the old no flash argument... :P I am surprised you didn't go with big ipod touch argument Kudos to you!

  • @MrPrancinghorse wow! I had to check your page to make sure I wasn't talking to a kid.

Another Ifan bragging on the number of units sold, and then questions how many windows slates have sold.

Why do you and other Ifans feel the need to count the number of sales in order to feel good about a purchase. I give my opinion, even if I am alone, I love my windows tablet, it does everything I need.

  • @mdtrue

Its good that you bring up numbers here. When we talk about mac vs pc. Windozers talk about pc market share. Now that windows tablet share does not exist you are tired of me bragging about ipad's numbers? shows how weak your argument is

  • @MrPrancinghorse I see this conversation will never end. I want to again say, I think the Ipad is perfect for you. I had no Idea my argument was weak because I have no argument, I just have an opinion about windows tablets. Works great for me. Sounds like your Ipad works great for you.

I am a graphic artist, video editor, its nice to have something that CAN run professional programs ON THE GO!

This may be hard to understand because your world consist of apps, games, web vids only.

  • @MrPrancinghorse Can you are any Ifan tell me one app that can even match professional programs from windows? Just one! Not only I but Ifans would like to know, please show me your professional creativity from your Ipad. I think the Ipad looks just great, I just think it is lacking professionally... please correct me if I am misinformed. I just thought there was nothing there for me, show me that money makin' app. Show me something that does graphics/photos/ videos in layers. Windows can!

  • @mdtrue

There are 300000 apps in the app store. There will be one app that works for companies. Go search. As far as facts go 50% of Fortune 100 companies are using the ipad Not windows slates even when iPad is a consumer device and microsoft markets their tablets as business tablets. This says a lot about how professionals are using it. There is a saying in India, "when you close your eyes does not mean the world cant see you" don't be ignorant

  • @MrPrancinghorse Okay.. Okay! I see! 300000 apps, & 50% of Fortune 100 companies using the Ipad, I'll stop being ignorant. The Ipad is the best tablet for business, you win. Not only that, its also great for consumers.

Even though I currently have windows Tablets & computers, I will encourage you and others to purchase the ipad. I need to use photoshop, while I use software I encourage others to use apps on the go! If you love it ... I love it for you! Less competition for me!

  • @MrPrancinghorse Another thing I don't get is how an Ipad user found his way to the unveiling of a windows tablet video & decides to comment on how they don't like it or can't use the keyboard. WTF??

This is a business tablet that has features for entertainment also. I used Quickbooks today & sync online with my Office P.C.s & laptops.

This is for professionals, yes there are less professionals than consumers...THAT MAKES SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS. I love ifans, they will always need pros like me.

  • @mdtrue

Wow you are talking accounting to me. Awesome. Why would you need to create accounting records on a portable device? I dont get it? just because you can run quickbooks on it? I can sync with my laptop with my ipad talking of professionals do you realize professionals use right tools for right job? Accounting is made for workstations not tablets. I am here to see what ballmer has to offer as a windozer you would realize how wrong you were when ballmer will eventually copy apple

  • @MrPrancinghorse Ipod touch argument? No need to state the obvious! Except for the fact that the ipod touch has a webcam that can chat with Iphones, Macbook, android, window desktops, laptops, netbooks, via skype.

Leaving 14.8 million (as of last three quarters) current Ipad users without the ability nor hardware.

No flash is also a BIG DEAL for me! If you do not use flash then the Ipad is perfect for you!

I like the ENTIRE WEB! Hulu, Veoh, Justin TV, Ustream, the list goes on & on.

  • @mdtrue

Webcam is a valid argument. I can watch hulu on my ipad I can watch youtube more I don't have to worry about viruses malware crapy flash ads and I get huge battery life none of it can be done on windows tablet unless they copy apple again (eventually they would do that) just like they did with windows phone 7 and put windows phone 7 on tablet.

  • @MrPrancinghorse You ask why would I put Accounting software on my tablet? Wow... You really don't get it!

    1. Its easier to carry , portable 2. Works seamlessly with my P.C. software 3. More importantly BECAUSE I CAN!

If you had an I pad to sell a professional, how would you do that? What can it do professionally besides research? Sony Vegas? Photoshop? Dreamweaver? No! This is why the windows tablets are attractive to a select few! I am letting you know my use... whats yours?

  • I'd like to now turn your attention to the utterly pointless and meaningless video that tells you absolutely nothing about the product because I've sensed the audience is bored with the prototype that shows you the ability to...FLIP A BOOK'S PAGES (and lots of other stuff that I can't show you because it is as useful as...a slate)

  • Notice how at 3:40 he taps the windows symbol expecting it to do something! He secretly KNOWS how a good touch-base OS should operate and KNOWS Windows 7 is not it. Yet he stands there and lies to us to get us to buy a bad product. He problem owns an iPad or Android tablet, hence his expectations in 3:40.

  • i love how stupidly awkward that 6 second video from hp was.

  • Why can't Steve Ballmer afford a sweater that fits without having to roll back the cuffs?

Steve jobs is the MASTER of these product unveils, Steve Balmer looks like a neanderthal.

  • well whattaya know they're all trying to copy the iPad. microsoft can never create original products and alward end up trying to copy Apple, as to be expected.

  • lol! its like they stole an iPad and put screenshots of microsoft office on it! xD. i swear Microsoft really needs to come up with something original....

  • @jack390 Stfu, the iPad was launched later...

  • @gustavohuink it was launched like 1 month later....but developed like a year b4 microsoft n the other companies even thought about making a tablet like thing... so you stfu

  • "You have [the best music service] Zune...." Lolzarz

  • ... Learnt NOTHING from the UMPC era.

  • Microsoft have

  • I agree Apple didn't come up with something that anybody didn't try before, tablet PCs have been one of the projects of many companies for years, but Apple created something that really works, is out there, selling well, & does what it says it does. If U don't like it for having this or that, then the iPad is not for U.

The good news is that now you'll have more options, & I really hope they perform as advertised; although I haven't seen any on the streets! Hehehe Apple 4.19M sold, MS 0. Sorry!

  • this event was soooo boring....

  • lmao

  • Another original idea from Microsoft (...)

  • Ballmer sucks. MSFT has gone nowhere under his stewardship

  • I can't stop watching the bit at the 3:30 mark, watch Ballmer mumble his way to the Windows Media Player.

  • At least on this you would be able to use true productive programs. Apple held everything back on the iPad. Its just an oversized ipod touch. And too prove its not even a copmuter, IT CANT EVEN RUN ITUNES. You cant delete songs off it. On a pc running windows you'd be able to run free apps made for real pc's by normal people.

  • So windows, don't even try to compete against iPad... You will eventually loose. Go and try new! Go and try Apple!!! Windows gave a leap backwards with Vista and 7. Apple has always improved in every OS that has released and is as software-friendly as Windows.

  • @270694 Even though windows O.S. can use HTML5 and flash. I don't even want the ability or option to use flash. Flash just ruins my web experience, I mean, flash videos, flash enabled games and programs, not to mention porn, I mean All Useless, who need that? Porn is immoral, so my Ipad also protects me in so many ways!

Giving me more options is a big leap backwords!

The mentality of Ifans! Ifans love limits!

  • The HP Slate just looks like a horrible Windows enabled tablet PC... Windows Fans: Welcome to the digital era. USB Ports aren't vital (Say hello to email), Windows is as old as writing (Say hello to iOS), Flash is useless and buggy (Say hello to touch-friendly HTML5)... I can make everything the HP Slate does in my beautiful iPad and with better graphics, interface and design. So Windows, don't wv

  • @270694 "Yeah! Who needs USB Ports. If I want any files I can get it by email.

Not to mention media files, I have the App store!

And who wants a stupid web cam? If I want to see my friends they can email me photos or vids.

Who needs a card reader, I mean duhh! If I want my photos on the go I can hook my camera up to my Mac and email them to my Ipad!

Who needs Free Flash games? I can purchase my games at the app store with better graphics!"

This is the logic of Ifans. We love limits!

  • @mdtrue i love the iPad aswell, but trust me, the next generation iPad will feature a camera, people want a camera, and with the new facetime its pretty cool.

  • @270694 "Flash is useless and buggy (Say hello to touch-friendly HTML5)" wow, so many things wrong with this. You understand HTML5 has nothing to do with competing with flash other than the video tag, right idiot?

  • This looks like a iPad...

Anyway, I heard a lot of blogs and posts stated that this is not happening until Jan 2011.

I could do all he mention right now on my ipad... by the time this hit the market, I will be using something from Apple-Matrix!

  • It wasn't until I started reading these comments that I realized that I am an advanced p.c. user. (I honestly had no idea!)

When people started comparing the slate to the iPad, I was like, Duhh!

    Windows hp slate, NO CONTEST!

However... after reading the blogs & comments I realize that windows overwhelms some users with features I love and need!

The iPad is really easy to use for most but I & some users find windows to be very easy. Your 3 yr old can operate iOS my 3 yr old operates windows

  • How can you tell Ifans are programed?

    A. If Mr. Jobs say I am announcing a new product, It runs perfectly, but it does not have a card reader, no usb ports, no professional software can be installed, it has no camera, it can support flash but we will not allow, It looks beautiful, the battery last long & it has an apple on the back.

    B. Mr. Gates says I can give you all that is lacking plus more on a slightly bigger unit for about the same price!

    Millions have chosen A.

    Ifans love limits

  • anyone see similarities between the 3rd tablet PC (with Twilight on it) and the iPad?

  • The eBook is not even centered on the Slate screen! These are details Apple users can't live with. If you copy, you can only be second best. So much investment, so little innovation. What a pitty...

  • @iyavrucuk Ifans find the dumbest things to say. Out of all that the Ipad is lacking, this guy states that Apple users can't live with an eBook reader that is not even centered. But they can live without a webcam, usb ports, onboard memory expansion, ability to install software and not just useless apps. HP slate has sooo much more but Ifans clearly love limits!

  • microsoft needs bill gates, ballmer doesn't cut it by himself

  • Thish thish thish AAAAAAAAAAAARGH

  • One problem everyone here seems to be overlooking is that all those Windows 7 tablets are running on x86 processors. While the iPad and any Android tablet are ARM based, thus making them much more efficient and have a longer lifespan on one charge. Windows needs to be ported to survive the mobile space.

  • Nice product. I hope it is cheaper than an IPAD ! I have many information stored in usb steaks pictures in flash memories and my website has flash animations ! Soory I have a PC and it works for me !

  • This stuff already exist

    un original of apple

and shame on windows for trying to sale an old product

personaly I don't beleave carring digital crap every where I go (I guess some people have life's, some are just trend whores lol)

  • epic fail

  • Wow, he failed at the Kindle app. :X

  • What's with Ballmer and the sweater? Is he turning into Gates now?

  • @blacbraun Noooo... thats him doing a Steve Jobs, Redmond = Red sweater

  • one thing

    android :/

yup android its simple people know how to use it and its comeing out on several new mobile devices. microsoft is getting axed by android and apple OS

  • he is so annoying and those fake gestures ..

  • OMG it has the taskbar!

  • Microsoft Vaporware.. Is there anything from Microsoft that is any good?

Xbox = fail, Zune= Fail, Vista = Fail, WinCE=fail, Win ME = fail Plays for sure= fail

Also Windows 7 is a bag of bloatware.

Now people are saying - hey that product from MS (Thats not out yet) that's a sure bet ipad killer!! (Huh?) With MS's recent track record of delivering cutting edge clone ware is something to stay away from in my book. So what if it uses flash. If your fingers cant control the OS then its pointless

  • @SPECIALFORCESUK Are you serious? Ifans say anything! Windows users are the majority. Look at any, I mean any major retailer, (Walmart, target, Sams You can only purchase windows pcs. (not one mac) Windows = Dell, Hp, Compac, Acer etc.

"you say if your fingers can't control the OS then its pointless" Wow you really believ anything. I guess keyboards an mice are useless. Now you don't want flash. Ifans love limits.

  • @SPECIALFORCESUK You win because apple has the perfect product for you!

THE IPAD! No buggy Flash! No webcam! No usb ports! (who needs those)

No Mouse or physical keyboard so you can control the OS with your fingers All day!

No memory card reader! (Who needs extra memory, uncle steve says I have enough) I don't need to expand! No HDMI out (My screen is big enough)

Besides, if I want to do something that everybody is already doing on MS, apple will make an App for that!

  • this dudes head doesn't match his body >_>

  • definately boring. I was bored with ipad when it was released and this one is even worst

  • I can't see myself using W7 on such a small touchscreen. Microsoft, make a goddamn finger-friendly UI!

  • absolutely Boring.

  • Gosh Steve looks like the Devil.. :|

  • youre too slow ballmer, apple aheads of you and leave you far behind.... sorry

  • Wow this guy just reminds me of a typical arrogant sales person at your local electronic store or car yard... a real turn off. Just look at his body language and tonal inflections. Yuck. Definitely didn't sell this product to me. (haha and he has that Bush 'gobble gobble') - Easy to criticize someone online eh?

  • his voice make me want to kill babies

  • @How2Apple Haha! OMGoodness! I can't laugh at this.. I can't laugh at this!

  • @How2Apple LOL

  • @How2Apple It is like having your high school football coach speaking to you. Always loud!

How can a guy who is CEO of a tech company .......not understand the basic function of the microphone use ? Does he not understand what that thing is pinned to his shirt?

  • Having two people on stage in this manner is just really awkward. We have selective framing going on in this video, but I can't help but wonder what that guy is doing off-camera...

  • steve can suck on my sack

  • Steve Balmer SUCKS. He is an lunatic AND sickly arrogant. And if he does think he offers the best meda experience .... it proves it even more. What a looser

  • PC Slate will kick the IPad out of the shelvs!

  • windows 7 was desinged for pc's they had some touch in windows 7 but it was meant for a desktop/laptop. HP slate won't go far i'm expecting it to crash quick because of not good touch software.

  • it's fail LòL

  • Hp Slate is terrible compared to Ipad.

  • @puzzlite it could be good, but since it's running a desktop version of Windows, it just doesn't work on a tablet. I can bet it's going to be slow and will drain power like crazy.

  • @puzzlite no this has a purpose somthing more portable than a pc its smaller a ipad on the other hand is just an ovesized ipod touch once the os 4.0 comes it so get ir facts streight

  • Butt monkey

  • windows offers the greatest variety the most interesting content and entertainment experiences in the world BULLSHIT!!!! u want that get a mac or an ipd touch or something

  • Soo.. just take a look at how stupid it looks, if you're flipping through the pages.... and even the color looks more blunt than on the iPad not to mention the kindle store is not the best online bookstore on the market, right now.

  • i am totally going to buy the hp slate. I think the ipad is so stupid it is a total waste no camera no flash i will just stick with my ipod touch

  • why doesnt the ipad have flash?

because it doesnt need it ! wanna play games online? theres tons of way better games in the app store. wanna watch videos on the ipad? you got youtube and justintv app... soo ipad is just better because theres an app for everything and you can also get iWork to make documents when youre out. i think the iPad is just great!

  • I have to strongly agree with MrPlaystationboy ... absolutely boring!!! trying to act like steve jobs, not even close ... Apple's Keynote's are number #1 !!!!!!

  • wow 10 year old technology just unvailed as new. This is a new low even for Microsoft. They stole apples previous iSlate name for the iPad and took it as their own catagory.

  • @bwillwall

he said that the "power" was equivalent to a windows 7 PC not a apple phone.

  • @bwillwall its actually the other way round. 1) slate was announced before the iPad. 2) microsoft has something called ms surface which came out long before even the iPhone series and it features multi-touch and so on. The innovative thing Apple did was to bring tht technology into the cell phone market later. The only reason you mite not hve heard of the surface is because its very expensive (table sized) and intended for corporations and businesses. google it.

  • steve jobs wanebe

  • @mikegrung having the iPhone OS on the iPad may seem like a short coming to all the mindless douchbags who state that everything is "fail," but having the iPhone OS on the iPad means that everyone already knows how to use it. Look at the Courier from Microsoft, it looks great, but no one knows just how great the experience will

be on it. But every alreay knows how the iPad will be. And that's where apple has the advantage over Microsoft bc everyone already knows how to use it.

  • @C0mmanderKewl wht u r talking bout is the user end experience. There's a difference between this and all the other things a kernel must handle. The fail is in adapting an OS meant for a cellular device into the iPad. It was easy to do since it didnt require much innovation from Apple. You could have the same graphical interface and the same user experience while building an optimized OS meant for a device such as the iPad underneath which Apple didnt bother doing. This is the fail.

  • @C0mmanderKewl The iPhone OS is closed though, Windows will always be open, that is why it is as successful as it is.

  • @nzluna1 Windows is NOT and open OS!

  • @nzluna1

    so true

  • @C0mmanderKewl

    enjoy your fail OS

i could care less about microsoft's slates, because they are REDICULOUSLY underpowered. The TC 1100 was cheaper when it was released and still is more powerful than the fail that is the architecture of the Ipad.

    Me?

I'm looking forward to the HP slate running Android OS

  • @C0mmanderKewl OMG are you saying that no one knows how to use Windows?

This is telling me exactly what I suspect, Ifans are dumb!

  • @C0mmanderKewl so u're saying we shouldn't have anything new because people will need to learn how to use it? why dont we just stay in the stone age then?

  • @C0mmanderKewl Then people need to fucking learn how to use a new OS...but thats besides the point. You could have the UI look exactly like an ipod touch, or iphone. The fact that Apple makes half ass shit, and people will buy it makes the company who it is.

Windows 95 looks like Windows 98, ME, 2000, 2000 Server and it wasnt until XP where it got a slight overhaul of "prettyness" Vista looks like 7 and so on. They've upgraded 7 big time but it still looks somewhat the same and so on.

  • @C0mmanderKewl I agree with you at some points, but their strategy also prevents innovative new interfaces. Sure it's a great market killer when it comes to sales, but what about their new products in development? Duplicity, no new experience.

vote this thumbs up goal is 100

  • microsoft will never learn. they make slow and old software.

    windows is rubbish.

  • @hyylo but for some reason, they control 95% of the market for some weird reason. hmm....

  • @angrymoth2

    Hi

the reason why Microsoft control 95% of the market is because government and Microsoft have agreed to install windows and office on every school and college computer.

The government is corrupt as consumers have to pay to fund schools through high tax.

We pay schools via tax. The schools then use our money to install Microsoft.

In China and Africa Microsoft is losing market share because Open Office and Linux are being used in more schools. Google also uses linux.

    :)

  • @hyylo yaa.... the government and microsoft is working together to ensue our demise. r u talking bout the US government? thn i agree with u... but i live in Canada. And now tht u brought up linux, i love using tht kernel as a development environment... and tht's the reason they are found in universities... helps computer engineers like me. Diff OSs are meant for different things. The success of windows is actually mostly due to large businesses and corporations.

  • @angrymoth2

    Hi

i did not say that they are trying to bring the world to an end. Dont you understand that the reason why Microsoft is on most computers is because kids use it in school and they grow up using it. The tax payer gives money to the governemnt to fund the schools. the schools then install Microsoft with our tax money.

In China and Africa schools have more freedom on what software to install. Open office is being used more then Microsoft office. Firefox one example of freedom.

  • @hyylo hello again. y doesnt the government want apple products? i remember my middle school in Toronto used apple computers and i grew up using those at school.

  • @angrymoth2

    hi

it should be decided by the people what software is used. when you go to buy a mobile, a car or TV you decide what brand you want.

in scools the governments takes our money and install microsoft because government thinks it it the best software.

for example people decided to use firefox. government did not decide to use firefox.

please search youtube for MILTON FRIEDMAN

Milton Friedman might help explain the views better.

  • CAN"T HEAR!!! argh

  • im glad all of the other companies will be whipping competition @ Apple but from what ive seen so far from all the late comers they will be behind as usual. there is always room for "B-C & D's though. still is funny to see steve ballmer in these "here is what we have now" videos. the guys should be retired IMO. he's not a good visual for a company thats trying to compete with Apple or do anything contemporary. but yeah, lets see some good competition.

  • it's not the device, but what you can do on/with it that will matter. The interface is key as are the apps that it can run. This is where HP/Microsoft typically fall down. They can make functional hardware all day long, but none of it is terribly inspiring to work on, and often needs a lot of technical support. But competition will be a good thing. The next gen iPad will be the product that either makes or breaks this segment for Apple. Consider the first one a test for everyone.

  • Are they even trying anymore?

  • @VulcansForgeFilms

lol. i think google and HTC will give Apple good competition.

  • @VulcansForgeFilms

Look at the new 30 second HP slate teaser. The whole windows 7 OS has been modified, now STFU. Yeah i know in this vid it looks like shit, a small screen with windows slapped on

  • Ok both devices have they're good and bad points im sure but what it comes down to is this.

    ipad = app store

HP slate = full win 7 OS

Ok be honest beyond stupid fanboyism which actually sounds like the fuller richer experience that would be useful for your needs.

  • Shit this guy is allways shouting???

    I'M GETTING ON MY NERVS!!!

  • Did no one notice how cumbersome and unresponsive the HP Slate demo was when Ballmer tried to press those tiny buttons with his giant fingers?

  • Then get one of the other 'slates'. I hate that name. Don't get an ipad. Get this HP Slate. I'm willing to bet it and the mini 5 will be both flop.

  • They don't own the factories in Thailand. They just buy their touchscreens And steves balls are starting to get dry. Better start licking them or you'll never get flash on the ipad or a camera which every other slate has at the same price.

  • I have an iPhone. And I think it's junk. Freezes all the time. Lots of lag when typing in an app. I can't wait to throw this junk out when the new 7 phones come out

  • why is it ok for pc to make atablet but not the mac? Everyone is saying oh no don't get the pad it's just a big ol ipod touch well even though its pc the same thing goes for this, a bigger version of any small touchscreen device. I think people are just jealous of Steve Jobs.

  • You raise an extremely logical point; one which I will use when people call it a "giant iPod touch".

  • other companies do it the right way. capacitive sensors, behind a sheet of hardened plastic. yeah plastic may scratch, but if it scratches and then malfunctions, it's not out of warranty and you can get a new one. keep trying though its entertaining. oh yeah. and intentional dropping is not what I said. people accidentally drop things. (mp3 players, phones, computers) and its normally okay. now take the 3 apple products in those categories.

  • @skittleschocolate Wait, you're saying that if I drop a MacBook, for example, it will malfunction and will cease to work?

All Macs have a sudden motion sensor; if dropped, it disengages the hard drive, preventing data loss, and, thus, all of your documents, photos, music, and everything else, are intact. Also, you're saying that a computer with a solid enclosure, versus multiple weak plastic parts (for most PC laptops), will "break" ?

  • you drop an iPod, you're not walking away without at least dents (iPod classic, Hard drive crash). iphone, cracked plastic back, cracked screen. macbook, dented shitty metal, possible cracked screen. now let's do this. my studio xps laptop. (1599.99) scratches in the plastic, everything else ok, Moto Droid, NOTHING. THE THING IS BULLET PROOF, I have an iPod touch, so I already explained that. I'm done here.

  • @skittleschocolate The reason that phone is "bullet-proof" is because the phone manufacturer foresaw it being thrown and dropped because of the stress caused of its malfunction. (Obviously not, just to highlight my opinion).

"MacBook, dented shitty metal". Aluminium is not "shitty metal"; it's a very expensive metal and provided considerably more support and protection for the internal components than plastic. You are extremely illogical.

  • Not really, this is a smaller version of a full windows laptop. Unlike the iPad it has a full OS, and not just a scaled up ipod OS.

  • @Blueberry40

You fail, the ipad LITERALLY runs iphone/ipod touch OS. IT IS LITERALLY THE SAME THING

  • @mikegrung its not literally the same thing because most of the apps are iPad specific.

  • @C0mmanderKewl

Wow, you fail. "You know it has the same OS and almost the same specs besides the screen size, but there OBVIOUSLY to different devices because one of them has apps that fill there whole big ass screen correctly"

  • @mikegrung same specs? seriously? this thing is almost twice the cpu and ram

  • hope i get a HP slate

  • And by the way japanese, chinese, and korean products are awsome.

  • I am really sorry to say this but people who hate apple so much are people who cant afford apple products, i have a pc (i hate my pc) its slow it takes me alot longer to do my work on my pc, i have an iphone that thing is faster than my computer i use it for everything with such ease, no problems, no freezing and typing is easy as pie, by the way people who complain about touch typing, face it they just have fat hands, i know apple delivers products to intelligent consumers.

  • That was really impressive how fast it flipped the Windows 7 desktop with the orientation sensor (when he went to show the video). I've had Tablet PCs from HP before and you would have to press a button and it would take a second for the screen to rotate. This HP Slate was really fast. I was impressed. Also the page flipping in the Kindle software seemed very responsive. I will definitely be getting the HP Slate.

  • @cool8man

Than you are gonna love the new UI change look for the new HP 30 sec teaser vid

  • everyone always talks about apple making its own stuff but they dont make anything all their junk is made in tiawan , they just tell a tiawan tech company hey we want this made can you do it and they do they dont build anything anymore than microsoft does

  • They don't build any of the products. The point is they ASSEMBLE all of their products in factories which THEY own.

  • yeah and they pay little Chinese kids 5 cents an hour. which is my point. the steel in macbooks or whatever is made of a bunch of scrap metal, melted down, and mixed together. THATS CHEAP. also, you sound like an idiot attempting to sound like you have a brain in your head with every comment you post. the glass bullshit? a PORTABLE DEVICE, ESPECIALLY A HANDHELD should be able to take a fall, and not shatter.

  • @skittleschocolate You do know Apple is one of few companies that undertake independent audits every year on how their employees and factories are holding up?

"The steel in macbooks or whatever is made of a bunch of scrap metal, melted down, and mixed together." Duh! "OMG", you're an idiot. It's called recycling, one thing that other manufacturers can't and won't do. That's not cheap; it's called doing your bit to help save the planet.

I'm not commenting further; you're far to stupid.

  • Here we see the whole misery of microsoft. What is microsoft? A software company which support many devices based on one pc standard. Many devices Mr. Ballmer is presenting there, right? I favor a single product, engineerd from a decive company, which is also a software company since years. And by the way: I am a windows/pc user so far.

  • You can't have USB or camera in the ipad because all the apple fanboys have to lick steves balls for a year then he'll give you what all the other slates will already have but he'll call it magical

  • @jesse1779 its magical cuz is a stupid gadget and still a lot of people are gonna buy it ^^

personally im gonna wait for the second or third version of the ipad or maybe a microsoft or google tablet to buy.

  • This is typical Windows

  • what is?

  • Steve Ballmer makes me laugh ;)

  • lol steve ballmer - as if there werent enough reasons already to not buy microsoft

  • i want something like this, maybe even the apple one but for reading alone i use my kindle. i'd use these for everything else they do though.

  • iclone

  • look at the date on this video. ipad was released a more than a month later. this was in designing 1.5 years ago. they've been perfecting it till now.

  • also, at least this uses a professional operating system, and not one that's on a freaking mp3 player. you can actually accomplish something on this.

  • this is good for travel when you're going to hang out to a different place. this is what i think because it would be hard to use it for school and other type of programs that actually needs a KEYBOARD and a mouse. this is a entertaining device just for fun

  • Love the "pinky" interface too. So sleek and PiTA.

  • Neh. Not impressed at all. Installing a full OS on an underpowered CPU will never yield "wow" results.
