I think its more than fair to say that probably 3/4 of the Russian players do not have the fire in them that many north American players or even Swedish and Finnish players have. There are exceptions though like say Datsyuk ..you would be hard pressed to find a harder working player than that man
@MrJuha82@MrJuha82@MrJuha82 - That is so correct. I have always said the same thing. I think Pavel was more explosive and could go from 0 to 100 in a plit of a second like nobady else not before or after and this was while he had the puck. On a longer distance Fedorov was a litle faster and as i said and what you are pointing out so correct is that his style of skating was different and therefor did not look that fast. Fedorov had it all - belong there with Gretsky and the rest
Bure was a very skilled scorer and amazingly fast skater, but nothing else beyond that. Federov was incredible all around, hell he even played defense at times for Detroit as much as he hated Scotty Bowman making him do it. Federov was as naturally gifted as any player in history but wasn't always the hardest worker or most focused. I blame 14 year old Anna lol
There is no way they skated top speed throughout this vid. Watching them in the other vids when they tried to break through defense or go around the whole opposing team their strides were more forceful and all body parts were in motion. The skate between the two near the end was wayyyyy too relaxed, in my opinion. Too bad, we'll really never know. I'm going to throw a curve on this one, how about Russ Courtnall, before all his knee issues????
Bure might not have been the fastest, he was up there though, he had the BEST acceleration and that's what you need for games.. Hands down most electrifying person in sports entertainment (Sorry rock).
@2XcrazymanX2 Can you tell me, which player was faster in your opinion? I've never seen anyone. And don't tell me that Fedorov was faster, he really never was. But you're right, Bure was the most spectacular player of all time.
@Ahattrick4asprilla Pavel Bure had the same Pavel Datsyukian "what the f--- I've never seen that done before" gene. Fedorov was less spectacular, but more talented overall.
they didnt look like they were trying.. thats not even NHL size rink.. i'm sure it wouldnt take them 17 seconds to skate around a communtiy club rink!! thats a long time!! lol
Russians first train to be skaters then work on other skills. I think most of them start off at some figure skating school then the tough ones pick up a stick and see what they can do with it.
their 16.8-16.9 seconds here of "not trying" is still faster than most players busting their ass as fast as possible. We all saw Fedorov win multiple fastest skater competition at the All Star games, he has 2'nd and 3'rd fastest all time I believe.
I'm not sure what your point is here....I said they don't try if it doesn't matter...unless you're saying they are trying...which there is a consensus here that they aren't
well I think seeing a lot of the success Russian players have had in the NHL proves that Russian players DO try, but you summed them up all up as if they NEVER try just like they didn't here according to you.
yeah YOU think....many of the people here (as I said before), including myself believe that they don't try if it DOESN'T MATTER. I don't recall writing in any post that they NEVER try. Please show me if I've written that somewhere here.
well your "if it doesn't matter they don't try" comment is as vague and ambiguous as it gets so what the fuck am I supposed to take away from your point?!?! Whatever matters is relevant to whichever opinion you're asking...therefore your comment can be applied to pretty much every relevant thing going on in hockey, that's what I'm arguing over.
And it took pretty much 3 comments to clearly point that out......nice job....
"If it doesn't matter they don't try" is vague? I don't see how thats vague at all...if it doesn't matter meaning they don' think it has meaning...then they do not try meaning they do not play their hardest. Its pretty simple. I'm not sure why your arguing really......I think IMO in general its true.
....ok??? Well then in that case, anybody on the planet who doesn't think that something is worth a shit, will likely not try that much either. Or are you trying to say that Canadian or other players from different countries bust their ass when it doesn't matter to them??? I don't see your point in singling out Russians in this
What I'm saying is Russian Hockey does not try as hard as they can. They are elite players with a lot of skill, yet when push comes to shove, they back away and become lackadaisical. They aren't as passionate generally about the game as opposed to North America or European Countries. For example look at the Olympics...Domination, until they met Canada where they got shell shocked and didn't even try to fight back...they just conceded after the first period. Pretty dissapointing IMO
@Seoulmanaja I hate this stereotype, for every Russian player who doesn't seem passionate about winning, there's a Canadian counterpart. Do you think Malkin is less passionate, because his Conn Smythe Trophy says otherwise. What about Datsyuk? For every one of those guys there's Canadian like Daigle.
Sorry I just want to get some clarification on what you think the Stereotype is. I'm sure Russians are passionate about winning. That's not the argument I'm making. If it seems unreasonable, they will stop trying. They wont battle, they won't try. More often than not they'll slack off and just wing it for the rest of the game or just quit. Its been referenced many of times. Russian players don't try unless there is meaning to it and its attainable
@sofaking27 that's what i was thinking at one point. It looks like they are barely trying. Cuz it's sorta a kids thing segment they did years ago they prob just said make it as close as you can or something.
Nobody in Canada says that they don't have skill. On the contrary, this is what they are known for. If there is a knock against Russians, it's that they generally don't play a very good team game.
Funny. The thing in Canada you guys just don't know what team game is. The only problem is to show the russian team game you need some russians on a team. Remeber the Wings' russian 5 and how they wouldn't loose the puck for minutes? It's different style of play. I'm not saying canadians are worse hockey players, not at all. But to say russians wouldn't know how to play a team game is ridiculous.
Okay, but they were playing on a north american team, the Red Wings, put together by canadian coach, Scotty Bowman. When I say team game I mean responsibility at both ends of the ice. Also, I'm not saying ALL Russians are bad at this, and ALL Canadians excel, it's just what is emphasized at the grass roots level. And I will admit that it is a Russian who is currently one of the best two forwards in the game. Pavel Datsyuk.
Yeah, but it helps when you have a Scotty Bowman behind the bench. But as things have evolved through time, it seems as if you are right to give puck pocession game to Europeans.
I hate dump and chase; such a bad game play and it kills everything.
However, we have to say they were not stuck with the "Trap" at West. This too is a terrible invention whose "evolutions" are still overused in the Easton Conference.
Hockey is meant to be played carrying the puck! If not, the show will be awful.
And you think they were trying in this video? SO YOU THINK you're faster than NHLer's? But yet you've not made the NHL nor probably played even close to NHL lvl hockey. Oh so you still think you're faster?
it's not a secret, they came public about it long ago... yep and Fed is a far better 2way player, he was even force to play D when he was with Detroit because he was such a good mind and skater... Bure was no passer but was better at scoring awesome goals.. total offensive? Fed did have one hell of an offensive season Bure could never match and he didn't goal suck...
My two favorite players of the 90's. Its great Ovechkin gets to play with Sergei currently. But if Bure was stil playing in the NHL today, he'd still be posting 50+ goals per season. Datsyuk has been my hero the last 5 or so years though.

Yeah no problem. My opinion is that Bure was perhaps faster straight forward but all in all Fedorov is and was the better skater. He won that election a few years ago with twice as much votes as the runner up, Mike Modano.:)
Kolla denna: watch?v=DJxHuAy6jUc&feature=related
fedorov kinda tried, but bure was pratically coasting. I love fedorov's 2 way game and that we have him on the caps now, but bure's speed was blinding when he turned it on.
when it comes to around the rink fedorov is faster because he is taller and loses less speed when going around the curve, but in a straight line no one is as fast as bure
you cant determine pure speed by doing a lap around a rink..it has to be straight line. That simply determines the best skater...which would be like a Neidermeyer..some fast guys cant cross cut as well as others.
yeaa pavel wasnt trying he could easily kill him

jpoux27 3 years ago

Not really.
Ballen145 3 years ago
i was joking
NHLfreak87 3 years ago
Yeah no problem. My opinion is that Bure was perhaps faster straight forward but all in all Fedorov is and was the better skater. He won that election a few years ago with twice as much votes as the runner up, Mike Modano.:)
Ballen145 3 years ago
NHLfreak87 3 years ago
Kolla denna: watch?v=DJxHuAy6jUc&feature=related
Ballen145 3 years ago
NHLfreak87 3 years ago
xismxist 3 years ago
NHLfreak87 3 years ago
ohja! extremt snabba... både svenskar å ryssar ;)
xismxist 3 years ago
någon som utmärker sig?
NHLfreak87 3 years ago
typ alla elitspelare ;)
xismxist 3 years ago
haha ok
NHLfreak87 3 years ago
it's very apparent from the highlights that bure is a lot better puck carrier
qiranwang 3 years ago 2
fedorov kinda tried, but bure was pratically coasting. I love fedorov's 2 way game and that we have him on the caps now, but bure's speed was blinding when he turned it on.
tnix80 3 years ago
ahhahahaha fedorov said, "fastest in the world"??? ahahah
brooklynking336 3 years ago
when it comes to around the rink fedorov is faster because he is taller and loses less speed when going around the curve, but in a straight line no one is as fast as bure
ooder1 3 years ago 2
you mean bure is more explosive
jpoux2736 3 years ago
2 best player in 90's
barhatowo 3 years ago 8
you cant determine pure speed by doing a lap around a rink..it has to be straight line. That simply determines the best skater...which would be like a Neidermeyer..some fast guys cant cross cut as well as others.
