Ok, a couple of hours after they applied the gloss, I wiped the tile with a damp cloth and then a dry one and the streaks went away. I love the look of the floors with the gloss. There is some debate that the gloss will eventually peal...is this true? I'd hate to have gorgeous floors only to lose them to peeling yuckiness.

@SuzetteJade It sounds like the product applied did not take to the original seal. It was repelled, just like water forms into puddles when dropped on a sealed floor but, would be absorbed if dropped on porous floor? I'm not too sure why it was repelled - I don't know what products have been used? If the'glossy product' did not take to the floor then, yes, it is likely that the glossy seal will peel off - sorry!

Help! We got our tumbled travertine floor layed, did the grout, but the grout "summer wheat" dried lighter than we expected. To fix this our contractor applied a higher gloss sealer over the tile and grout (only in the laundry room as a test area) which looked beautiful and brought out the colors we wanted, but it dried streaked. What went wrong? He says the tile has some amount of factory seal already. Is that the problem?

@SuzetteJade I'm not sure what has happened, without personally inspecting the floor, I wouldn't like to guess? If an 'enhansing sealer' has been used, this might simply have brought out the natural colours of the stone, which you might not have noticed before? Please let me know if you find out what has happened!

don't you get overspray on the walls and cabinets? My travertine floors are getting installed in a week and I'm worried about the overspray when they seal it.

@SuzetteJade First of all, if you are having travertins stone sealed, make sure it is 'impregnator' going down. This is absorbed into the stone and allows the stone to breath. This floor has stone as a skirting as well, that was also sealed. Carefully applied, you shouldn't have any problem with overspray going on any other areas!
