This was back in the day when game companies didn't buy off everybody to say that there game is perfect. This is an honest review, with two different outputs on the game. They not only brought up interest in the game, but they talked about it's key features. All in one minute! Choke on that, Gametrailers!
This video made Morrowind so epic and awesome when I was a kid, and made me want to get it.
And I did, and it WAS.
Fucking awesome game. So great for its time. And yes, I have Skyrim, and even though its ALMOST in par with story quality, I still think Morrowind still has so much charm.
Sure combat is a bitch until lvl 20, but its so great once you get into it.
It may sound stupid but this review was what actually changed my gaming preference. Before the Elder Scrolls series I was a huge JRPG fan. But after playing Morrowind I never looked back.
I remember when I first played Morrowind, I was wondering if this was the fantasy role-playing game that Toonami reviewed (since it had been several years since I first seen it). After watching this video, I am glad to know that it was Morrowind that they reviewed. In fact, just seeing this review makes me want to play Morrowind again. :)
Wow, most honest review ever. How was this a popular series before 2006? I don't know, this just doesn't compare to Oblivion or even come close to Skyrim. Atleast it's playable, unlike Daggerfall *shudder*. I normally love those era of games but neither hold my interest, the 90's were a much better time for JRPGs, though now with Oblivion, fallout 3, Mass Effect and the lack of great Final Fantasy's or most JRPGs the Western RPGs are the king.
i still remember watching this live and immediately becoming intrigued by elder scrolls...now here i am almost a decade later with both morrowind and oblivion under my belt, playing SKYRIM at the moment
I remember how when I was a kid, I'd browse the games at Costco (because we went there to shop and I didn't know about stores like Gamestop). Every week I'd see Morrowind. The images and everything just looked so fascinating. Every time I'd beg for it, I got a no. It must have been sitting on a shelf for a year. 8 years after Morrowind was released and I've still never had the pleasure of playing it, and don't know if I'd want to because of the outdated graphics (and since I have Oblivion).
@thatguy176 (continued) Still. I have to admit this game is a classic and the desire to have it is what sparked my love of role-playing video games. If I weren't so picky about the 2002 character models, I'd probably download it right now.
@thatguy176 If you have it for PC you should check out the mods like Better Bodies and (if memory servces) Faces of Morrowind. Those two mods gives all the characters improved bodies and faces. Then there's Morrowind Overhaul that completely revamps all the textures and graphics of the game. MGE also revamps the graphics by giving you distant land and a new shaders. It may not beat Skyrim in terms of bells & whistes but it's a huge improvement from the 2002 era graphics.
really, after all this time, the only good reason to dislike Morrowind is the combat system. They based it off of dice rolls, so all your sword swings and arrow shots have a chance of missing if you are unskilled with them (even when "landing" a solid blow). Personally, after playing Oblivion, I like Morrowind better, because you can see how your dice rolls get better and better. There is almost no sense of progression in Oblivion, and Skyrim promises to be more of the same.
I thought Morrowind was amazing when it first came out, as I had never seen a game like it before in my life. Got it a year or two later in like 2003. I was so confused and didn't know where to go, so we just explored til it got dull. We finally beat it, 8 years later, in 2011. Waiting for Skyrim now. :)
lol they really played this game down. he talked shit about it. the combat was pretty fun. but i think he was talking like that becuz kids watch this. and they wanna make it sound boring to simple minded kids lol. so their parents dont waste their money on a game they cant play.
lol.. thi sis when i first saw the elder scrolls and i said...damn thats cool a cat person lol. u run around... and i didn't play it til 3 years later. lol..then i fell in love..HARD.... i remember i forgot the title for the longest.
@oiStuartx lol I remember getting off of school and watching Rurouni Kenshin and someone said damn and I was like "omg saying damn during the day on a cartoon channel?" I mean yeah it's anime, some has cursing but I remember being kind of shocked, not thinking it was good or bad really. ha.
I remembered wanting to play this so bad, but I forgot the fricken title. xD I finally did buy it last year and then after watching this video realized that is what it was. ;_;
How wonderful if I was to play this when I was much younger.
@CaptainPwnage300 prolly said rpg-ish because at the time most games talkeda bout as rpg's were final fantasy like games. and many turn based rpg's. when i was younger i dont remember there being alot of sandbox style open ended rpg's.
i didnt like it because i could not for the life of me hit anything, not even the side of a barn. i go up to a guy and press the trigger and he swings and it goes right through him and doesnt do damage
This game is THE only reason I got myself an Xbox. I didn't even care about Halo. Between this review, and my friend vouching for how great the game is, I got the Xbox, and I got this game.
Just now I'm buying the Collector's edition for the PC. Gonna mod the fuck out of it.

SuperBro.BrawlerKart thinks he'z played this game before.........HYUSZ I HAVE! ...but it is very boring and it actually was my neighbor Sarah's game. ...It was really really boring and stuff.
Same here! I had completely forgotten that it was my favorite cartoon block that originally got me to pick up one of my favorite games as a kid. Major nostalgia.
@Dirge I picked up this game when I was seven, I just saw it lying there in Game Stop, So me being curious I bought the game and brings me nostalgia when I play it now and i'm 15 now.
i became hooked on this game for a long time when i bought the whole elder scrolls III expansion pack for xbox. years later i was hooked AGAIN when i DLed the rom on my pc and started using mods for it.
This game looked so awesome. I saw this on Toonami as well, but the thing that sucks is I didn't even get a chance to experience this masterpiece until about 3-4 years later because we were poor when it came out, but we ran into money later on when my mom married a rich guy :).
Well I understand your pain I two didn't get to play it till several years afterwards, Although my mom never married some rich guy I just got a great deal on an xbox and the guy also sold me morrowind with it.
