Don't be afraid of this procedure.... the cleanout process is no worse than too strong a curry, and the procedure is just a breeze thanks to the sedation drugs.
Just read in a post below in the states you have to pay $3257 for a colonoscopy. What if you detect markings of CA on yourself and can´t pay this? Pretty glad we have government supported healthcare here in germany, free colonoscopies and general cancer precaution for everyone beyond 40.
How come he doesn't talk about the % risks ? Perferoated colon, infection from unclean equipment and in 0.0016% of cases, death. Why? Because this is marketing for the health industry.
I felt embarrased when I was first told I should have one after 50. After that, I wanted so much to go and have one and get it over with.
When I had it, it was just like a breeze. I didn't even mind the day before. It felt so good cleaning out my colon.
Anyway, the doctor just sees it as any other body part. I just don't like when ignorant people laugh about it or say something like" she's having her butt examined" It's nothing to joke about.
I just had my colonoscopy today; I used the Ducalax/Miralax prep. I took 2 ducalex pills @ 10am & another 2 @ 11 am. Bowel movemens started at 3pm. Started gatorade mixture @ 5pm; all bowel movements finished ~8pm. The procedure itself was very easy; total time was ~3 hrs.
I am 56 and had all the markings of Colin cancer so I wrote a check for $3257 and went in. I have stage three CA and just did my last radiation and am on chemo. I might beat this thing, but for sure would have been in a casket by now if I had not for off my lazy ass and did something.
well sorry to burst everyones bubble but any invasive procedure has its risks, my father fell victin to this risk. he he walked into the doctors office on dec 2007 and came out on a stretcher ,,,he went into a coma and died in sept 2010..so much for doctors saving lives...
From what people tell me, different patients are in different states of consciousness during the procedure. Some told me I'd be all the way under, some told me I'd be groggy with little memory of the procedure, etc. As it turned out, I was awake and got to watch it live in glorious HD. I even asked the doctor questions as he went along. I barely felt a thing.
@PearlandGal Klean-Prep is the worst of them all. It tastes like the liquified remains of a human corpse. You have to drink 8 pints on the repulsive stuff. I end up on my knees vomiting. The actual colonoscopy is a doddle by comparison.
Excuse me, but this is NOT propaganda. My father was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 1987. They were able to clear the cancer in the colon but by the time it was diagnosed, it had spread to the liver and he eventually passed away from it in March of 1989. Screening is VERY importand, and I just had my first colonoscopy two days ago. I get the results on January 28th.
I had it done twice without drugs of any kind and it was painless. Any good doc can do the exam unsedated. The sedation can be dangerous and cause long-term memory loss.
I would never want to go through colonoscopy, that is said to be a painful examination-especially when air is pumped into you-it must hurt like hell:-(((
I had a colonoscopy done this afternoon and woke up from the anaesthesia just as the procedure was finishing. I was really uncomfortable with the air but it lasted only for a moment and went away as soon as the scope was removed. Afterwards I had some discomfort and bloating but once I bent over and passed gas a few times, everything was great. I sure was grateful to eat real food again today!!!! :o)
I have never gone through a colonoscopy.But-I know what an endoscopy feels like-I can not agree with malmsteen2002-I felt NO pain during this procedure-and right after that,2-3 mins after this I ate my whole breakfast without any problems or pain.OK I was totally healthy inside, maybe if I had had any problems(health),then I would have felt enermous pain,I don't know.Maybe the doctor was a really good one...
A colonoscopy is almost completely painless; I've had it done twice. If you are in any risk group for colon cancer, get it done! You get great peace of mind when it's over, knowing that you are as clear of cancer as anyone could tell you.
colonscopy is nothing... try endoscopy.....even sedated you feel like someone choking you with endoscopy....its the worst of all cancer detecting procedures....

Benign poylps can become cancerous, I had it done at 40 instead of 50 because colon cancer runs in the family

Surely it must hurt after the polyp has been burnt off like that?

No, because the bowel has no nerve endings.
