Have people heard the other version of this, where the female vocalist at the time (Briana Corrigan?) sung instead. Same music, different singer. Also incredible. It's super-hard to find online, I had to buy a couple of old albums from ebay to get hold of it. If anybody wants a listen, contact me :-)
Has anyone else noticed that the horn line towards the end of this song is exactly the same as the horn line from 'the rescuers' that plays when ever they use that bird as a place?
@crookylufc I KNEW I RECOGNISED THAT! AMAZING! YOU LEGEND! Also, have you heard the female version of this, released on just a few early copies of the album? It's also amazing.
paul heaton, looks like a scaffolder, your mate from the pub but when he starts singing,he's up there with the best in my opinion, totally underated, love this song and the video, been to many weddings like that!!
I remember having 'The Beautiful South -Greatest Hits' on a tape when i was younger and my mum recently bought it again on CD it made me so so happy and brought back so many memories
i saw paul heaton about 3 months ago in the anvil pub in wigan, he was doing a solo tour of the north west..playing one night gigs..in shit pubs..for pennies..on a bicycle!..i asked him about a possible b.s reunion, and he replied, 'been there, done that, never again', so there ya go folks, the man has fallen on hard times, shame really.
@Sinead12ful i agree, at least hes had a taste of the success, and hes not been influenced by drink or drugs, hes just a common bloke from manchester with a story to tell now, and its great that he still peforms, albeit in intimate venues rather than arenas.
@xXmikeywafc10xX i spoke to Dave Rotherway the other day and he said no chance of a B.S. reunion.shame really. But sometimes it's best to have good memories.
@Sinead12ful totally, some groups make comebacks and the material is so poor compared to thier heyday, its sad for the fans, at least paul will be best remembered at the top of his game with classics like this.

@kevin708 No matter which band I name you would probably disagree. And you would probably be not far wrong. :) There's a lot of good music from back in the day that some people should make more of an effort to find... Beautiful South, Rodriguez, Nick Cave, JS Bach, Mozart, Bob Marleys other stuff. The list goes on and on.
Paul Heaton has to be recognised surely by now, as one of the ELITE. A lyrical genius that that man is...from his first songs to the ones he still sings today. A contribution to music on a very grand scale. I am lucky enough to of been able to follow his career, as a young girl growing up, into the woman i am today, And musically speaking Mr Heaton has been a constant for me........
What a remarkable and inventive little song...there is everyone in this thing in the spiritual sense, I can hear Elton John, Van Morrison, Everything But the Girl, even Bacharach and Hal David, and what a poetic title and lyric...indeed, LET Love Speak Up Itself, what a loaded poetic trope that is! I would love to hear Tracey Thorn of EBTG do this song too, just to see how she would handle it. :-)
I think that what you will find over the next decade or so we will realise what a truly gifted and creative band they really are. they have a great many classic tracks to call on.
@01jnorth underated is understated.. they are brilliant, but they arnt tarts with their tits hanging out and they arnt pretty boys that teenage girls will idolise , so they never got the recognition they deserve. its a great sourse of shame that the british music scene has come to this.
I'm living in Hull at the moment and it is a right shit hole!! But it must be said that The Beautiful South are by far the greatest thing too come from Hull.
The amount of times I've walked through them revolving doors absolutely arseholed and exited them sober. Brilliant video, brilliant song, brilliant band.
