Saint John has changed a lot since I was a kid. The city has torn down the MRA block on King St and built Brunswick Square, the beautiful train station where Harbour Station sits now, Centracare, the building that Harry Houdini toured once and was the inspiration for his strait jacket escape routine, the General Hospital, the Odeon theater uptown, and the way the east side has jumped from swampland and trailer parks to shopping central. Sad to see memories go but we outta be used to it by now.
Which they have yet to do. They had several opportunities for new locations but had to be out by a certain date for the demolition to make way for the new justice complex. Maybe one day...

This makes me so sad :( I went to the Y for years, and worked there as a teenager. So many memories in that building!

They do that sort of thing in Saint John, tear down buildings that might have another life - remember the Union Station?
I have many memories of the YMCA with the Teen Center Dances on Friday night and the Hi-Y Clubs in the late 50's, early 60's

although yes a complex is infact going up they have been planning on closing the Y for many years now to rebuild somewheres else in a newer facility
