  • most drawn out documentary EVER... cut the scary music and just come out with it already!

  • This is just the paleo diet. That is to say, the diet our ancient ancestors had before. Agriculture which was mainly meat, fat, seasonal veggies & fruits, nuts, roots and seeds. If a person can survive infancy and childhood and survive a saber tooth, our ancestors were capable of living into their 60's and 70's while being quite active

  • @tatsumakisempyukaku ummm ..... all agricultural civilisations relied heavily on a carb source. Whether potatos, rice or other grains, that made up most of their bulk.

  • u fucking disgusted me with all the people eating

  • U can tell atkins is bad for u because of the scary music they keep playing.

  • Heya! Has anyone severely considered DietOramy diet (do a google search)? I have learned of a handful of marvelous things regarding it and my colleague spent a ton of extra pounds utilizing it.

  • I was afraid of becoming Diabetic when I discovered I had high fasting blood sugar at a health fair. I stopped/reduced my intake of foods I knew ( and later learned ) to affect my blood sugar. My curiosity and lots of reading and research led me to Atkins, there I found the science behind how my new choices led me to loose nearly 85 lb in six months, made huge improvements to my blood sugar, and dropped my cholesterol 40 points. At 32 I was headed to a very bad place, I now can say my future an

  • AMEN! Low-lipid diets cause heart disease, diabetes, and more! Read The Cholesterol Myth and Good Calories, Bad Calories for the real story on low-lipid diets. Hurray for coconut oil and full fat cream! Never felt better, and no more binging!

  • Hiya and welcome! Perhaps you've thought about DietOramy diet system (do a google search)? I have been told some extraordinary tips relating to it and my sis burned a good deal of extra pounds by using it.

  • doesn't the atkins diet work cause ur liver goes into ketosis?

  • It's irking to continuously hear that Atkins allows a limitless amount of food or that you can eat as much as you want. If you read the book, it states that you're supposed to eat until you're satisfied, not gorge yourself because you can.

  • High blood sugar causes heart disease moreso than high blood fat, atkins is pretty legit.

  • @Jleigh225 Amen! People need to do the reading: The Cholesterol Myth and Good Calories/Bad Calories. Watch "Fathead" on Hulu--BLOW YOUR DIET MIND

  • These idiots think that The Atkins diet gives you free will to pig out, that infact is NOT true. Atkins diet is based on simple substitution of foods but you still have to maintain fitness and not eat too much but just eat enough so you're not hungry, completely uninformed documentary.

  • Science had to eat humble pie, hopefully it was low carb.

  • @dumbangel75 This documentary is a few years old now. Other studies show that some people are more likely to have arterial problems than others. As Atkins admitted. Studies show that fatty foods are self-limiting for most people, & many Atkins dieters ate fewer calories because fatty foods satiated their appetites quickly. Long-term studies do not confirm that Atkins weight loss is any more permanent than other programmes. Humans typically go back to their old ways regardless of diet.

  • Israelipiper, everything you said is wrong. Stop making up wrong crap.

  • @AppleSouffle Abrasive, insulting, and to no point. Cannot you disagree and state your point, instead of pretending to know that I have "made up" anything? Impossile to discuss and disagree with most yanks--it is always person and ad hominem in the end. Sigh. Touchy touchy touchy. Az lehitra'ot!

    ! ילדים מפונקים

  • THE FIRST HUMANS ON EARTH BASICALLY DID THE ATKINS DIET.

cavemen ate a shit load of meat!!!!! and a little bit of veggies. and they were very healthy..

  • Comment removed

  • hmm... had you ever heard of the Acuspeed 24 Diet (search on google)? I keep hearing some amazing talk about it and my mom burned tons of weight doing it.

  • @farhanyousaf511 tons of weight? How much does you mom weigh/!?!??!

  • ok??? well... have you been inspired by the Acuspeed 24 Diet (do a google search)? I am told some unbelivable chatter about it and my cousin burned a lot of weight using it.

  • omg! have you been inspired by the Acuspeed 24 Diet (do a google search)? I hear some unbelivable talk about it and my grandpa got rid of a lot of pounds using it.

  • I am going to post this again because it's true. My boyfriend went on the atkins diet years ago. His breath got so terrible I couldn't stand to kiss him any more. I bet he doesn't tell you this in the book about ketosis.

  • google for rd feinman

  • i can't speak for others but before atkins, i was 380lbs , my husband left me, i could'nt have children, i was diabetic, had pcos, i could get a job because i could'nt get out of bed, it was no life, On atkins i lost 230lbs, i have a wonderful boyfriend, a career i love, all pcos symptoms are non existant, since 6 months my blood sugar is so balanced i am off medication, Atkins saved my life not the other way round. I don't care what science says Dr Atkins is my hero, & always will be!!!

  • @eternal4life2010 r u serious! i also have pcos, i was constantly bloated, after 2 days of the atkins diet i feel great. I am sufferring with the atkins flu atm but reading your comment gives me hope regarding pcos and weight loss with this diet ! great job :) xxx

  • @TheEljohara All i can advise you is to stick with it for a while and u will see results, i was the same i heared about atkins years & years ago, but because of all this negetive response was too afraid to try it, at the point i did i thought i was going to die soon anyway why not, & have'nt looked back since. Your own body and results can be the true judge of what right and wrong, the world was flat once upon a time, so be your own judge. As 4 pcos, things will get better very soon.

  • @eternal4life2010 thank u for the comment. How long did it take you to lose230 Ibs? I do not need to lose as much, but i am curious to know. Thanks again x

  • Look at the big fat scientist who is trying to debunk Atkins. He must be clever, but he should look in a mirror!

  • Is Beer very bad in this diet?

  • @Vagabund92 Yes, but beer is bad for you in general even if you're not trying to lose weight.

  • its not a limitless eating diet and even though fat is allowed its still encouraged to eat lead proteins- I dont know of anywhere that it says people on this diet sit around eating butter all day- I love how people are always so over dramatic about what the diets really are

  • What's with the strawman argument about "limitless" eating? I never, ever, ever heard Atkins say this or promote this. Nor do I see any other low-carb eaters promote this.

  • how come they dont show thw vegies is a big part of Atkins hum

  • Process foods are not part of the three nutrients: fat, protein and Carbs. True Carbs come from fruits and veggies not ho-hos and rice crispies! this is why america is fat. Too many simple Carbs!

  • as a diabetic, I have to get blood work done often. The closer I stay to the low carb way-- the better ALL my blood numbers are . It really is true. I am healthier in ALL ways --eating low carb.

  • Im on somthing similar..LCHF..I will never go back to eat lots of carb...never ever. My stumach is so much better.

  • shit! just eat normally , exercise and u r good to go.. why complicate life !!!

  • Can someone please tell me if the food pyramid, which emphasises carbohydrates as being the most important food group, is still valid? I am really confused!

  • @ladybird754 No, it's not. And anyone who tells you to eat whole grains in ANY amount is fucking retarded because that shit is poison.

Avoid bread like the plague. Avoid pasta. Avoid sugar (this one is obvious though.)

  • No diet is healthy when it eliminates whole groups of food. There's a reason why you should eat a balanced diet with a lot of variety. Your body needs different sources of minerals, vitamins etc. When you benefit from a single food group, you're depriving yourself and risking your health because you lack other nutrients.

  • @Likokas Obviously you know nothing about the Atkins Nutritional Approach. Learn what you're talking about already.

  • @Likokas It is healthy to eliminate whole groups of food when those food groups are:

A.) Unnecessary (you could live your entire life without consuming a single gram of carbohydrate. Your liver is capable of producing a certain amount from protein.)

    B.) Unnatural (processed)

    C.) Unhealthy (carbohydrates/sugars/etc.)

Guess what high-carb fits this bill? Bread. Whole wheat, white, whole grain, doesn't matter, humans aren't evolved to eat bread and it's horrid for you.

  • @LuniaVideo "humans aren't evolved to eat bread and it's horrid for you." - Rubbish. Bread has been a part of pretty much all of the lives of people that are living to be over 100. Everything in moderation.

  • @TheSpankymonkey Uhhh no.

Evolution takes millions of years. Agriculture has been around for around 10,000 years. Even IF evolution was to take a path that would make bread suitable in the human diet (which it wouldn't ever because evolution does not ever make deadly things beneficial) it would still not be for quite a while where humans would reach the point of being able to deal with bread.

  • Narration, music, and film style is SO annoying. But great information.

  • "the accepted wisdom of medical science" ? yeah...I'm pretty sure that leeches and cocaine were once "accepted widsom of medical science".....follow the money as usual. Big Agra funds most of the studies done by "medical science"...along with Big Pharma....eat your Cheerios and take your statins people.....don't buck the system.

  • @bloozedaddy love the satire

  • The first rule of thermodynamics is dont talk about thermodynamics.

  • "Could a diet that science said makes no sense - actually be working?" Correction: SOME science. And there's no "could be working", it clearly DOES and IS working for many.

  • This is ridiculous! Did they really say that there is no scientific evidence to back up the theories of Atkins? Uhhh think again, idiots! There is MORE science to back up carbohydrate restriction for health than any quack science for "low-fat"!

  • @bundleHastings Yes, all the bullshit about thermodynamics ignores the studies that have shown, over and over, people losing more weight on a low-carb diet than a low-fat version, yet eating more calories! Obviously its going somewhere besides our fat cells.

  • lol "science eat humble pie" they new all along what was going on, they choose to ignore it because it wouldn't make money, just thank what would happen if we all started eating low carb, the economy would collapse...being healthy doesn't make money

  • High fat content in low carb diets may SEEM harmful but the harmful effects have historically been observed in those who consume lots of carbs concurrently. The other thing that people bash up low carb diets for is the high protein content, claiming it impairs kidney function. It's true that patients with kidney failure is advised to go on low protein diet but that's with the context where someone has EXISTING renal diseases.

  • @robrosy Good explanation. Helps resolve some of the cognitive dissonance I'm having about this. I still struggle with the notion that people can eat as much saturated fat as they want without bad consequences. But people eating tons of carbs and sugars appears to be at least as dangerous, if not more.

  • As such most of the fats that one consumes on atkins would simply be burned as fuel in the place of carbs. Furthermore there are plenty of good quality randomised trials which have shown good evidence for the use of low carb diets and some that looked at cardiovascular outcomes(measured as cardiovascular events/strokes)found lower rates of heart attacks/strokes among thsoe on low carb diets. Not one good quality study has ever found a solid evidence that low carb diets are harmful.

  • It's painful to watch how these academics make hypothetical assumptions about the 'potential' detrimental effects of fats. Fats are bad when consumed with lots of carbohydrates, as the body is built such that it prefers sugars as compared to fats and thus in the presence of carbs, the fats that one consumes would be stored etc. However in atkins diet the carb intake is limited and thus the body essentially RELIES on fats(as a matter a fact this would comply with the first law of thermodynamics)

  • Why dont they ever talk about what kind of weight ppl lose with this kind of diet? Fat, muscle, water, bloodvolume etc. If you lose twice as much but most of it is muscle or water...what´s the point?

  • @1977jenna During the first week or so, most of your weight loss is water weight. After that, it's fat as long as you eat enough protein. if you don't eat enough protein, you can lose muscle.

  • Too much watching fat people eat in the documentary.

  • mmmm, Humble Pie. :D

  • @JesusGodHolySpirit3 it makes you lose fat, not weight. fat is what you want to lose, not muscle which is what you lose on low calorie, low protein and fat and high carb diets.

  • MORE BUTTEERRRRRRR

  • I thought i was watching a documentary about a low carb diet not paranormal activity or the last exorcism? lol chill people

  • Lipid hypothesis is bunk!

Type B (small) LDL is the culprit behind heart disease, not cholesterol as a whole.

The body's cells are made of cholesterol. We need it to live!

  • @bundleHastings If you only want the facts, then why dont u read about the atkins diet?? u prefer to watch this at a television show but u dont want to look like a television show..

  • The people citing the law of thermodynamics are just IDIOTS. Just because calories can't dissappear, doesn't mean they all have to end up in FAT STORES. Your body has thousands of uses for energy that you put into it, and fat storage is just 1 of them, which is regulated by insulin, which is secreted when you eat carbohydrates. When you eat carbs + fat, it uses the carbs for energy and stores the fat.. when you eat no carbs, your body uses fat and protein for energy, with no storage.

  • The close-ups of people eating are disgusting.

  • @Imogen1885 because they want to scare people into NOT eating the atkins diet

  • I find it funny how people say it violates the laws of thermodynamics. Just because you put calories in your body doesn't mean they're going to stay there.

  • the BBC is the biggest fucking cunt inthe planet. They have their own agenda and are trying to demonize Dr Atkins and his diet. Hence, the spooky music when fats are present. Gary Taubes has already proved the medical institution has been wrong for decades. Atkins diet is the best for weight loss and good health.

    Fuck u Bastard Broadcasting Cunts

  • So high fat diets are harmless are they? Well this goes against what we know from population studies. Traditional Asian diets give an average cholesterol 40% lower than western diets with an age standardised rate of heart attacks one sixteenth the western rate. This was the finding of the largest population health study ever performed, the China-wide Cornell-China Heart Study in the 1980s and has been confirmed in dozens of other studies. Coronary plaques are pure cholesterol. A coincidence?

  • @gdh7260 That is rediculous. Do you realize how much meat asians eat? Not to mention the total lack of sugar and refined carbs in their diets. The only high carb portion of their diet is rice. The rest of their diet (especially chinese) is very high in meat (in which they eat every part of the animal) and a wide variety of vegetables. Not to mention obesity rates are growing in both china and japan because of more availability in high carb snack foods and sugary processed foods in cities.

  • I love how they're so biased and attempting to change people's opinions. 'The Atkins Diet MAY benefit your health'.. never any full positive statements, though studies prove that The Atkins Diet definitely work.

This is one diet I am looking forward to trying, and Im anticipating brilliant results, for once!

  • Lol @ the editing making it some epic voodoo diet. It's just a simple diet that gets the body into a state of ketosis.

  • Watching people shovel food into their mouths, at close up is totally vile. Cows chomping grass is a little more elegant.

  • Most people on these diets don't just stuff themselves stupid with meat and fat, they just eat normal or perhaps slightly larger portions but without the carbs! That's part of the reason why they lose weight.

  • @1980Jonno Exactly... and the thing people don't realize is, when you eat primarily high protein and fat, your hunger dissipates quite a lot. Think of how someone feels after eating a bowl of cereal, or a 6 ounce steak... both can have the same amount of calories, but after cereal they are still hungry, and after steak they are satisfied and full. Even tho it seems you eat more meat / fat, most of the time people on low carb are actually consuming less calories.

  • @koreoh12 hahaha! good one.

  • Lol @ these "studies"

What on earth did these idiots think that people ate before processed food? Duh, a low-carb diet.

Hmm, what do animals eat? Oo... a low-carb/complex carb diet.

    What a shocker!

  • The Paleo Diet is the healthiest, which is eating good clean protein such as steak, eggs, chicken, turkey... and lots of veggies either raw or cooked. Fruit, nuts and anything else that a hunter gather could have eaten 10,000 or more years ago.

The agricultural revolution, happened 10,000 years ago. As soon as we started eating grains our bodies got weaker and smaller, diabetes and heart disease grew.

  • know what else is weird about the Atkins diet? you almost NEVER shit! I did it for well over a year many years ago and lost around 70 lbs. Barely ever had a bowel movement either. how does that work? lol

  • @Aprilshowersss Try eating 15 to 20 servings of vegetables a day. That is a part of a low carb Atkins diet.

  • @Goinglite i ate about 2 green salads a day... but otherwise was VERY strict about only eating meat. i just remember going days and says... not thinking about it... but then realizing i hadnt had a BM in like, a week. and this happend all the time. still, i was loosing pounds. at least one or two a week. it was amazing. and mysterious lol. where did it go!?

  • @Aprilshowersss Hahaha.. definitely need to increase your water intake haha. I had that problem my first couple weeks, but started drinking lots more water, and included more fibre in the veggies I was eating... fixed me right up haha.

  • why are people so retarded. Essential fatty acids and appropriate fats should be the source of fats, not just anything. Some ratio between protein and fat should be established. But that might actually take a little work and dedication.

  • What is the point in showing doctors playing hoops? What kind of sick twisted director is that?

  • Science was the one who said that the human body burns calories, Atkins never came up with that theory.

It's has always baffled me to hear "burn calories", I think science might be wrong about burning calories in the first place, but it's sort of like the atom theory, where many are debating particles versus string theory.

In my opinion I think that calories is more of a chemical reaction, like a battery: Energy, heat, and toxic (eliminated through the excretory system) are the result.

  • @bundleHastings What is with the close up view of people eating?

  • @Robinsnl

    I have no idea!

  • Haha!!! And too many creepy chewing close-ups.

  • this show is stupid. Dr. Atkins never said he was against physical fundamentals of the universe. That energy could never be created or destroy.

Low calorie induces ketosis which promotes your body to burn fat.

You don't need to eat fatty excessive fats and proteins. You can eat lean protein and eat tons of vegetables. You eat fruit too but limit it.

People are just too nuts about this anti Atkins.

  • @ferozoso23

You are very, very wrong when you say he advocaged: "tons of vegetables". Veggies are VERY limited, especially things like tomatoes, carrots, swede, parsnip, sweetcorn and so on...

  • @ferozoso23

You are very, very wrong when you say he advocated: "tons of vegetables". Veggies are VERY limited, especially things like tomatoes, carrots, swede, parsnip, sweetcorn and so on...

Also you say lean protein, when Dr A stated his diet is a 70% fat diet, and LOTS of fats and oils are to be eaten.

  • @bundleHastings Carrots and corn are high in carbs. The vegetables in Atkins dietare LOW CARB, hence the whole point of the diet.

  • Where are the veggies??? Atkins is a much more balanced diet then what is being shown here. People who follow it quickly, lose their hunger and also lose weight.

  • This music psychologically makes me want to try the atkins diet because it seems cool and mysterious :p

  • omg without fiber is hard for you to poooooop!!!!!!!!!!

  • I tried this diet once! Its mad... you reallty do loose weight but after 5 days the craving for fruit was so great i gave up. I felt sluggish and half dead during the diet... now i will only take the long but safe way.

  • @hellangelassia Five days? You have up waaay too soon. Most of us feel that way for the first 3 weeks. After that, you'd have more energy than you know what to do with!

  • @hellangelassia Most all studies on atkin's and atkin's style diets show that it improves health, and is quite safe.. even more so than low - fat diets.

  • calories cant dissapear into thin air? i thought that was what my anus was for

  • LOL This music does drive one apeshit

  • INSULIN.

  • @koreoh12 lol

  • @koreoh12 Ignore it. Now go on and finish that pizza pop.

  • @bundleHastings You know the facts. You been told your whole life.

Pretend it's the music and the joke's on you.

  • haha! if i played this background music in my medical office they'd call me Dr. Kevorkian!

  • because if you understand nutrition today, a calorie isn't a calorie...that mentality would mean that 100 calories from soda is the same as 100 calories of spinach. more protein has a high thermogenic affect on the body in fact it actually takes calories to use the calories of protein...hence why it helps.

  • @GrenMoyo So If they had been put on a low protein, low carb, high fat diet - they world not lose weight? Can you back that up? I'm not trying to offend, I would actually be interested in that kind of research.

  • @eizhowa no, im saying a high protein low carb moderate fat diet would help with weight loss

  • @bundleHastings I agree, the sound effects are annoying

  • I'm surprised nobody's mentioned combining this diet with Alli - eat all the fatty meat and be full but lose all the fat in the end. Sorry, couldn't help the pun :) Have to wonder how dangerous that diet would be though...yikes!

  • I was so confused...it was University of Pennsylvania not Pennsylvania University...which doesn't exists.

  • I think they were attempting to make it seem more "dramatic" and "entertaining." I mean...it is documentary about a diet. But I certainly understand your view point and the information would have been just as palatable without the music.

  • This diet was great the 1st time, i went from 96kg to 80kg in 3months, then went off it and ended up 104kgs! not good, expemsive to maintain and u crave normal things like cereal and bread something chronic, but if u can manage to stay very low carb forever, this diet is perfect for keeping the gut away.

  • This didn't happen to me. I lost 200 lbs by eating low carb and keeping my carbs under 30 grams per day. Once I reached my goal weight I slowly increased my carb intake until I neither gained or lost weight depending on my exercise plan. While on low carb I only had cravings for carbs in the first week, after that I had cravings for roasted chicken, duck, turkey, the list goes on. I currently eat about 90 grams of carbs now, and have maintained a 201 weight for 6 years.

  • @rizgoth Congratulations, i wish you many long healthy years.

  • Yes, I didn't understand the music that much either.

  • What stupidity. No one says you can eat limitless food. The point is to not eat carbs and sugar (carbs). Instead of burning carbs when we move around, we burn the fat. Changing your car from cheap carb gas to delicious fatty gas. Add exercise and you will have a perfect body. Atkins is a genius.

  • lipid -hypothesis is false, we need fat

  • Did Dr. Atkins amazing diet

was at 305lbs and got down to 195lbs

    AND

ALL blood levels ... didn't even get into "normal" range ... they got into "OPTIMAL" range

Thank you Dr. Atkins. Always remembered.

  • @joeylodes How long did it take you if you don't mind me asking? Your story is pretty inspiring.. I had 40 pounds to lose (lost 10 so far, 3 weeks in) and am looking to be around 195 as well... Awesome job! Thanks for sharing with us.

  • Atkins was on to something though.

Good fats such as omega 3's that come from food's such as salmon, nuts, flax seed oils etc. Have been proven to not only be good for the brain but also help lose weight.

Combine this with fruits and veges which are high in fibre and carbs such as wild rice and green tea along with exercise you would be very healthy. People are thinking in reverse.

Eat healthy to lose weight not the other way around.

I could go on but I'm running out of words.

  • @HotKebab Omega fats definitely are healthy, but what is even more interesting to me is all the studies that are now showing that saturated fats, which have been demonized for the past 40 years, are actually not harmful to our health. There's a lot of data out there to prove it, and when you think practically, it makes sense.. When ancestral hunters killed their prey, they ate everything.. the meat, the fat, tendons, all of it. In fact they would've been less likely to have omegas available

  • rk9295 I think your findings are correct. There is less money to be made from selling us proteins.

And don't forget the massive profits being made from weight loss surgery, which is now being offered to just about anyone. My doc even offered it to me on the NHS!

  • The more research I do on my own, the more I'm convinced we were told to eat carbohydrates on purpose by the government.

Food companies make money off of us because carbs are so addicting. They knew it would fatten us up and cause health problems.

Doctor's could then prescribe us medications that we would have to take for the rest of our lives.

Fitness companies could then make products that would claim to cure our fatness, everything from machines to protein bars.

    Carbs are a scam.

  • Atkins never said that calories could "go missing." He just said that once you reorient your body to run primarily on fat instead of carbs, many of the calories pass right through you.

  • Totally correct.

  • What "simple unprocessed" foods are you referring to?

  • Obese people do that all the time :)

  • so much for having fancy papers and degrees in nutrition... it's hard to believe that they all could be so wrong. saturated fast is supposedly so bad, yet some of the healthiest traditional societies in the world eat tons of it... the masais, the eskimos... weston price proved it all, yet no one listened. how is it fucking possible

  • Weston Price is a very good source :-)

  • I have combined low carb with calorie counting and lost over 68 lbs so far this year. As said before it is amazing how satisfied you feel even though you eat less calories (I actually only eat about 1/4 ofthe calories that I used to).

  • If your diet is High Fat (saturated fat) / Low Carb, then there's no need to "count:" calories. You will lose weight more effectively and be in much better health.

  • What's important to remember is that Insulin regulates fat storage, not calories.

  • My hunger is much more satisfied with a low-calorie, low-carb diet than high-calories, high-carb.

  • wrong. i eat more calories now than ever before and keep losing weight.

  • People who followed a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet lost more weight than people on a low-fat, low-cholesterol, low-calorie diet during a six-month comparison study at Duke University Medical Center. However, the researchers caution that people with medical conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure should not start the diet without close medical supervision.

  • wait, wait, wait... The government changed the peoples diets in the 70's? Then since then everyone got fat? Except for those people that kept to the origional diet? Damn Commies!!

  • This show is so overdramatic it's hilarious. I love how the narrator makes fat out to be some kind of hideous nightmare XD

  • Watch the obese scientist at 2:20 who gives advice on losing weight! lol.

  • What is this rubbish they are saying about "limitless food". Atkins never said that! READ THE BOOK! He said meat the size of a deck of cards and a side salad, 3 times a day!

  • The "expoerts said the atkins diet was

"biochemically incorrect and dangerous". What the hell do they think cavemen lived on for millions of years?

  • that may be true, but my life style has little in common with cave men, don't know about yours of course. I've seen many people lose weight on the Atkins diet, so it works, but few were able to maintain it and gained the weight back. Like all things, has it's ups and downs.

  • Horrible show. The calories don't disappear. They are excreted in the form of ketones. The assertion that you either burn them or they end up stored as fat on your hips is fucking wrong, wrong, wrong.

  • vao se fuder!! não existe nenhuma pesquisa que comprove a eficiencia e nem a ineficiencia!

  • There are lots of studies that have come out recently proving what a load of BS this high fat is bad for you nonsense. The low fat diet experiment has certainly failed the world!!! Read the Diet Delusion to understand the science Theodore Vanitallie!

  • this doctor commenting seems to be so ridiculously obese that its really funny to see him talking.

  • Why would anybody listen to this "expert," Theodore Vanitallie? He looks like he needs to drop at least 50 pounds himself. He should try Atkins.

  • Atkins is not a high calorie diet and he does not give a license to gorge. He says that calories do count, but you normally don't have to count them because limiting carbs lowers insulin secretion--the hormone that drives hunger and fat storage. You are satisfied on less food and can better use your stored body fat. Also, Atkins is not high protien. It's adequate protein. Most calories come from fat. Fat satisfies, but the only dietary fat REQUIRED is to provide essential fatty acids.

  • pt1 ?

  • Is this diet not a bit bland though, I mean you can't have fruit; I love fruit and wholemeal bread. Is that not unhealthy??

  • You can have fruit on the Atkins diet... not in the first two weeks but later.

  • I think the best fruit is apple because it has a high calorie/fiber (70/3) ratio.

  • Who told you that you can't have fruit? Is it a figment of your imagination?

  • My cholesterol numbers improved on Atkins!

  • I have been in atkins for a month, and I have lost 22 pounds, or 10 kilos, I'm going to start vblogging in a few days, come to my site after mid april to get some support and recipies.

    the fat mexican ninja!

  • I agree, Low Carb is the ONLY way to go. at least if you want something that works

  • I mean, is butter really that bad... I used to forget butter out on the counter after making toast in the mornings and Id come home and my Cats ate that stuff. They loved butter! When I went fishing with buddies when I was younger, I threw a hard boiled egg in the lake, under a floatting pier and all these small fish started eatting it. Protien is good for humans too.
