  • NIce black piranha. After watching this vid. I wanna get a black piranha from Guyana. I didn't know they were hard to get. I thought the black piranha xingu was hard to get. But I love all Piranhas. I can't wait until I get mines from aquascape. I went there to visit and they have the illest piranhas. I had to leave a deposit. I don't know what I really want. But I just keeping building store credit and than i will pick something.

  • were did you get him i want one so bad

  • i got a xingu balck p

  • ur a fanny,u american wank

  • Black P's dont shoal?

  • NO but you can try if you give them a huge tank but then i heard it is still hard.

  • A continuation from the previous post...of'course, I could do another 50-55 gallon setup and still keep all of my piranhas but unfortunately I just dont have the extra time, space, and money at this time..I'm so undecided and torn..but I really want the rhom badly..oh well, I got to decide by this Monday!..that's when the vendor told me to bring me fish in and when he would have another batch of piranha order coming in!..Can't wait!

  • Hi Apolloflying,

Well, here is my dilemma...like I said above, I was thinking about getting a 3-4 inch ternetzi to go with my caribe, and red belly in the 55 gallon tank but recently I ran into a vendor (local pet store) that has a 6 inch guyana rhom for $99!..I was thinking about getting him as guyana's are extermely hard and rare to come by..only thing is I would have to trade in my red belly and caribe and get some kind of store credit to bring the price down on the rhom!

  • Actually, I should have mentioned that this is a Guyana Rhom that I have.

  • They are little feeders, not large fish. I alternate him between feeders and freeze dried krill, which he likes as well.

  • Hey Apolloflying,

your rhom eats approximately fifteen feeders in two days?!!..Damn, I've never seen a rhom eat like that!..Usually, most rhoms just take a couple of bites (even when hungry) just enough to curb the hunger..hence, that is why they have notoriously slow growth rates..I feed mine frozen smelt and they love it..but they don't pig out..I figure it's a lot better for them than feeder fish if they will accept it as food on a regular basis..if not, I will just go back to feeders.

  • Hi Apolloflying,

Beautiful rhom! I have three piranha tank setups myself. I have a 29 gallon with one gold spilo about 4.5 inches long. A 30 gallon long with a 4 inch xingu rhom and a 55gallon tank with a 3 inch caribe and a 3.5 inch red belly. I'm thinking of getting a 3 inch ternetzi to put in the 55 tank to complete the trifecta! After all, the pygo species do shoal well together. Anyhow, which online vendor did you buy your guyana rhom from?! they are extremely hard to find. kudos to you!

  • That sounds cool. I've actually gone crazy with African mbuna cichlids lately. I got my first after setting up the Rhombeus tank, and have fallen in love with them. Just set up a 60 gallon tank for them and moved them into it. The Rhom is doing great as well. I guess I like aggressive, interesting fish, as the Africans are quite aggressive as well, but they don't have the killer teeth...LOL.

  • hey again, i just had a purple spilo shipped to me a week ago... i dunno if it was in the shippin or like this before they shipped it but its mouth is wither cut up or has a fungus i been treating it and its gettin much better... ne ways he been very shy and hides all day in this rock cave i made... how did you get yours to become agressive? was it like that when you got it? or was it shy at first and you made it agressive? please help i want my to be aggressive like that! :P thanks

  • Not sure about a spilo, since I've never owned one. I have a Rhombeus. He took a few months to come out of his shell and become aggressive. You can't "make" him become aggressive, it will either happen or it will not, and it takes time.

  • ight thanks, yeah i know yours is different kind but its still in the same sub-family serrasalmus so i figured they would act similar. well thanks for the info tho

  • Well, the Rhombeus is about as aggressive as they get. There are a few that are more so, but you usually can bet on a Rhombeus being pretty aggressive. Dim the lights as well, this will help bring it out of its shell. Remember they are fairly deep in the Amazon and don't like bright light. I just put old envelopes and strips of paper between my light and the glass under it to dim it.

  • how big is your tank? how long have you have the piranha? how big is he?. I just got one and he is about 3 inches long and very shy. Do you have any sugestions on food?

  • My tank is a 40 gallon glass tank, I have had my S. Rhombeus since November 9, 2007. He was 3.5 inches when I received him. He is now about 4.5 inches. I used to feed him shrimp and freeze dried krill, but now feed him live fishes, because that is what he likes to eat. I put fifteen feeder fishes in with him two days ago, and he ate all of them in 48 hours. He likes to hunt. So, I let him hunt.

  • cool rhom, how much did it cost ya?

  • Thanks. Cost was about $50, but the overnight shipping cost more! It was worth it though, he's quite fascinating, almost as fascinating as my other two African mbuna tanks.
