Alot of the time a "Pre Trip Inspection" on these vehicles when done properly by the driver, can prevent "mechanical failures." I know sometimes things just go wrong, but time and time again, when I see these accidents, 8 times out of 10, they could've been prevented if the operator of the vehicle did a simple inspection of the equipment. Which is the reason why people who operate commercial vehicles are guilty, until proven innocent, in the unfortunate event of an accident.

@spinaway Check brake lines and hoses for any cracks or tears, look for anything that may look broken or out of place around the major safety components of the vehicle. I wasn't saying tear it all down and rebuild it, just look at it. It's standard procedure, and REQUIRED by the D.O.T. laws in the U.S. to perform these tasks on ANY commercial vehicle, before it can be operated on any public road.

@marshmelloman1977 Im not being piccy, but Unless you have mechanial knowledge of the workings of a vehicle how can you recognise a fault on say the stering or a brake servo, Granted you would be able to spot a brake fluid leak , but anything for anything mechanical the bus would need to be lifted on a ramp.

Let's be fair here! You can see that she was trying to turn the wheel, but it suddenly wasn't working. I've also had an accident in a bus that had mechanical problems. There was evidence that it had had major brake system work and no test drive. It wouldn't stop in traffic and took out 2 cars. Then the union hung me out to dry in traffic court. Now I work at flippin' Walmart!

I imagine a bus that big can't stop immediately, you can hear she applies the brakes but it doesn't do much in that short of a distance.

Ya, mechanical failure. At 0:33 you see her quickly pulling the bus to the left... but the bus continues to the right off the road.

My guess is the tie-rods (or whatever it is on a bus) malfunctioned.
