No mod, I'm pretty sure he just got rid of all the grass in the area, and walled off the outside grass. Because grass can only grow if there is grass adjacent to the block, you can theoretically remove all the grass and wall it off. There, no more grass, then thats when you place a single mycelium... >:3

I got some ideas to improve:

1.Update it and make beds in the Vault

2.Spawn Villagers(the Squiward Looking guys) in the Vault/Entire map

3.Make the vault have doors with sticky pistons(opens to up and down and not to side)

4.Make Water that are "radioactive" (poison potion) Plus zombie meat all over the place as radioactive meat

BTW guys put no clouds to make it look more like a wasteland (:
