  • he still lost...

  • Sometimes in life you do just have to rip up the play book, say 'fuck it' and ... GO FOR IT!!

  • 4:54 illegal drop

  • a massive moral lesson is learnt here! dont play golf like this

  • - take your drop Roy.. - gimme a ball (fail) - gimme another ball (fail) - take your drop Roy... - gimme another ball!! (fail) - this is the last ball in the bag, Roy. If this gets wet, you disqualified. - i can make it across - then do it. quit f*cking around. (EPIC WIN!!!)

  • Rory Mcilroy was most definitely the one dislike

  • Im going for it Cheech.

  • This is how to make golf fun. Play to your limits. Can easily get it on with a 3 wood? Take a 2 iron, and try to stick it. Because of it, I actually remember golf shots I have hit,

  • This could be one of the best movies i have ever seen.

  • it's funny how he puts it to like 2 feet on the first one and then it rolls back into the water.. wouldn't everyone that has a putt roll it into the water then unless it goes in?

  • @qbb01 exactly - never heard of getting backspin off a 3 wood from a standing position on the green! So glad I didn't waste an evening watching the film....

  • @qbb01

I think it's because he's the only one that "manages" to get it on the left side of the green, which is the place without the flat green. The ones that lay it up choose the other side of the green. Probably.

    @portleucate

Then you missed an awesome movie. Too bad. It's about bromance, not realism.

  • Man, I wanted to cry.

  • That is a man with the strength of his convictions to guide him. And that is truly rare.

  • why is this a happy scene???

  • @Dabomb7r43 Jeez, I'm tired of people being so oblivious

  • @zodiacdrummer66

Let them be oblivious and thank heavens that they are your compeition in life ;)

  • Love this movie!!! I like how he just went for it and his girlfriend said " just do it Roy" no matter how many times he tried..with all odds against him......he did it.... because he KNEW he could!!!!!!! Great movie!!!!!

  • worst scene in a movie. No pro would ever do that. Nothing like life at all

  • @Pistons8484

    That's why it's a movie genius. It's not real life, it's a MOVIE

  • @Pistons8484: It's not about winning in this clip. It's about making that one epic shot that will make you remembered and talked about for years to come. Hell I don't know anyone who remembers the winner of the tour 5 years ago. (Mainly because my friends don't watch golf but it's still a point)

  • @Pistons8484 Oh really? Cos Mickelson pretty much did... 2008 US Open, 13th hole

  • @Pistons8484 - although you are right, no pro (these days) would ever do that... you completely miss the point.

It is THE BEST scene in any sporting movie. Period. In 7 minutes it completely encapsulates the spirit of the game of golf. I ALWAYS choke up watching it - and I'm 51 years old, not given to emotions.

  • I went for it on the weekend's round and smashed 5 balls in the water after refusing to lay up. To be honest, i'm quite poor at golf and everytime i get near the water this scene pops up in my head.

Thats what golfs all about, your not there to fuck spiders

  • favorite part of the movie

  • Wonder how many times Rene Russo says "Roy" in this movie.... Like 15 000 times haha

  • That shot though is the whole point of the film, he went for it, like hed done all his life. Ok he'd lost, and if he had layed up he probably would have won it but he went down in style. Who remembers the winner of the 99 US open. I certainly don't, but i'd remember that. It says something about life, sometimes the safe option is not always the best option.

  • @charlieboi2 Payne Stewart won in 1999, I mostly remember since he died in a plane crash a few monthes later, but this was an unreal scene that made me want to smash up my t.v with my 3 iron.

  • @charlieboi2 Right on buddy. This world could be better if the average person would go for it. Instead there happy staying at a dead end job for 30 years working for someone else instead of living to there full potietnal./

  • Great Ending!

  • This ruined the whole movie for me. If something like this would have happened, people would be laughing, not cheering.

  • @OmegaXP agreed, plus there is no way you could hit a fairway wood right next to the hole and have it roll backwards off the green...makes no sense

  • @chibearsfan313 as an avid golfer, it is possible.. you would have to have the ball check up on a slope though.

  • no no no no no no no

  • @chibearsfan313 Your wrong totally I'm a pga golf pro and trust me it can. When you strike the ball pure it puts spin on the ball most amat will never know. Than with the proper club head speed will ballon the ball up high enough when it lands on the slope the ball is going back down in the water.

  • greatest end of a film ever

  • Classic!

  • Roy- "This is for Venturi up there in the booth, telling me I should lay up."

Romeo- "Yeah, what does he know. He only won this tournament before you were born."

  • @bworth69 Great LIne

  • best video of all time.. ture meaning of life..

    GO FOR IT!!!

  • @814d That's the true meaning of a stupid and wasted life.

  • this part made me wanna brake my TV

  • this part made me sad :-(

  • great movie

  • Comment removed

  • I hated this movie for the simple fact that nobody can hit a 3 wood from the fairway that close to the pin and have in spin backwards, completely off the green and into the water. It's complete bull*&^$

  • I don't think it was backspin. I think it was supposed to be the slope of the green, but you're right I don't think the ball would have landed that soft with a fairway wood....ESPECIALLY U.S. Open greens.

  • Exactly, just like the 15th hole at Augusta. Your ball lands on the front of that green, you're done.

  • @chibearsfan313 It could be done especiialy with wind in the face which would make the ball baloon in the air. The green is als on an upslope and he looks as if he hits a slight fade aswell which would make the ball stop quicker.

  • @chibearsfan313 WHy do people say things they know nothing about. I've seen it happened many times. Know If the green were US open hard maybe not. But the point of the shot was there was a huge slope on the green that you had to carry it over. If you do it feeds right down to the hole. IF you do't it goes backwards. No different when you see tat the masters or us open's when they don't chip it far enough and rolls farther than when they started. The 3 wood never had backspin. It was a slope.

  • The girl in red at 3:48 was hot

  • *Hollywood

  • Lol, gotta love the 23 seconds of 'Holywood' hang time on his first attempt puts Freddie Couples 2 shame!!

  • The point is that he did something that will be remembered (in the movie) forever... immortal .. who cares who won the open, but everyone will remember the idiot who HOLED it in 12 :) Do something immortal yourself.. think about it...

  • If he would have laid up the first three days, he could have finished 12 under.

I like this movie, but can't watch the ending. What an idiot.

  • What a beautiful text book golf swing. NOT! It's text book for how to come over the top like the driving range hack he is.

  • True, but his swing is much better than Don Johnson's. He bends his left arm like a 20 handicapper.

  • @directorwvp2 HE SHOOTS IN THE 70'S IN REAL LIFE.

  • Well, he lost the Open, but he was definitely proved his point...the main issue here is whether to go for it or not...(in golf, life..).

I love this movie. I watched for the first time when I was 12...he is kind of a childhood hero, haha

  • At the end the guy tells him that in ten years nobody will remember who won the open but nobody will ever forget that shot.

  • i think it was rene russo the girl who says this not a guy.....

  • why is he raising his hand he just lost the fucking United States Open solely on stupidity.

  • because earlier in the film he said he had the chance to get on the tour , but missed it by one stroke. It wasnt about winning the us open. it was about the tour itself
