I think you're wrong. He knows the weight of his decisions and cares alot about us (soldiers)but I'd venture to say most of the Country doesnt. Think 15 month deployments are wrong, feel compelled to change the world? "Support our troops" by joining us instead of playing Armchair Analyst. You'd be supporting your country and the ideas it was founded on, not any single president. But what do I know, I have a Bachlors and I still joined the Army. :-)

Why didn't Bush join the army.He's the president, not me.He should know what it's like. Because I don't want to put the troops in harms way, I should join the army? That's a whole other story. In a WW2 type situation all the army branches are great, but it's not that type of world anymore and this isn't that type of existential war. Personally I couldn't work in any situation where I'm conditioned not to think critically and only take and carry out orders like a drone. That's just me.

...? I didn't compare it to a video game. I know it's not a video game. That's what Bush thinks. Having a father enlisted in the Marines most of my life, I know that soldiers can't questions orders and bring their consciouses into the picture. It just doesn't work that way. If you're a Captain, colonel or something, yeah... but the Majority of people don't hold those positions.
