1973, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley; Luis Gasca, arranger; Joe Henderson, tenor sax; Julian Priester, Nicholas Ten Broeck, trombone; George Duke, piano, electric piano, drums, percussion; Mark Levine, piano; Eric Garnett, drums; Francisco agualbella, Victor Pantoja, congas; Carmelo Garcia, Tumbales.
Joe's the epitome of Spiritual Creativity and the perfect balance between simplicity and technicality. Not to mention, this is an excellent roadtrip tune
Oh, thank you so much for this. I've also been looking for it for decades. Back in the '70s I drove from NY to LA. In the middle of a hot afternoon in Middle-of-Nowhere, Texas, I stopped alongside the highway overlooking a vast, empty, panoramic prairie, with the "purple mountain majesties" in the distance. I had lugged along a cassette tape deck (pre-Walkman era) and had this song playing, with not a soul around, looking at this incredible vista of America. Such great memories. Thank you again.
@jodi10704 Amazing visual! I too always like to associate music (especially deep soulful cuts such as this) with beautiful imagery. It really takes your mind and soul to a different plane!
Incredibl! Met Joe at Concerts by the sea years ago. I had to tell him how moving this song is. He said it was a very simple song. And there it is, how more can be said with less!
Major props for uploading Canyon Lady. More than a classic...

Absolutely beautiful! The intro reminds Visions of Gaudi by Tom Harrell.... (the video is in my channel)
