MTV actually told MJ he would be receiving the 'Artist of the Millenium' award - they even had a banner on their website announcing it as such on their website, which many fans have taken a screenshot of as proof. It wasn't until afterwards they removed all mention of it and contributed to making MJ seem like an egotistical loon in the media. MJ made MTV, and they pissed on him.
