Those coins are made of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, 2% nickel... which equates to a metal content of only 7 cents. This is historical fraudulent debasement.
Makes too much sense to use dollar coins over dollar bills. Saving the country near 500 million dollars a year if we got rid of the dollar bill makes too much sense. It's way to easy to use them. I use them all the time.
I think they're going to be very popular. They're definitely more popular than the Dwight D. Eisenhower coins (i have 7 of them) and the Susan B. Anthony dollar (which people didn't like cause it was the size of the quarter).
i've seen these. i've spent them. i bought them at coin shops (proofed). never ever spend coins that have been proofed, or if they are anceint and are american you can still spend them but dont do it because its worth more than wat it says.
Anyone heard or seen Obama on presidentail dollar coin ? LOL my answer , it's not from the US Mint !a president must be deceased a minimum of two years before being honored on a presidential dollar coin.
i have alot of steel pennies i found in my dads closet. there is also an indian coin from 1906 and alot of old copper but i am still looking in the small box for a 1943 copper penny
its not silver, its steel, in 1943 the copper was needed for the war so the mint made the pennies out of steel. they arent rare or worth much, maybe 25 cents.
It's time to lose the germ-infested bill. I think that sometime between now and 2016, they will stop printing the $1 bill. I'll be glad when I use dollar coins and Kennedy halves in vending machines.(Note I changed my username from gothgxx to GothicRunes). I appriciate your reply.
Pick a dollar bill out of your pocket. What date is on the lower-right of Washington? 2001, 2003, 2006? Now pick out a coin out of your pocket: 1975? 1988? Which has proved to be a better investment as far as wear-and-tear?
The new Presidential dollars look terrible. They look like a souvenir of the Statue of Liberty. Putting "In God We Trust" on the rim is not appropriate. It lessens the term. Also, the "gold" wears off. they are too heavy to carry around.
just boycott the coin when you get it (refuse it) together we can accept OUR OLD AND AWESOME currency. So when you get a dolllar coin (if you get 1) just ask for a bill instead. Easy peasy lemon squeasy.
Lessen the term? It's meaningless in the first place. If I lived in the USA I would be firmly campaigning to have it removed altogether. Religion and State should always be separate.
Ummm...some do. Self checkout machines do, and some claw machines. Try it out and make note of ones that do. Print labels that say "Accepts $2 bills" and paste them on everyone you come across.
Your precious "gold" dollar is really worth less that four cents of real purchasing value since the Fed took over minting for the US government in 1913. Remember, your dollar is based upon debt and is no longer tied to any commodity such as gold or silver. Why are you all so excited about monopoly money?
As is your precious rag dollar. Your point? I never said I agreed with the Fed. And the Fed doesn't Mint, the Fed buys from the Mint and the BEP. Also, name one world currency that is currently tied to any precious metal. I can't think of one, not even the "Pound Sterling".
In actuality, I could care less about the "rag" dollar or the dollar coin because of their intrinsic lack of value. My entire point was stated in my conclusion, "Why are you all so excited about monopoly money?" Rather than being excited that the Fed has created another collectable trinket that will be eventually hoarded into oblivion I would much rather have a currency that has real intrinsic value.
LOL Did you notice that the dollar coin you displayed has the upside-down lettering on the edge that a lot of people on Ebay are claiming is an error? For the record it's not.
This is another monumental waste of money. There are approx 300 million Sacagawea dollars in storage. Nobody wants them. This is just something for collectors. They have been out for a month and nobody I know has even seen one in person.
You're entitled to that opinion, but it is economical, and because the USMint is a self-funding money maker, these new dollars are not costing you anything.
Sorta. See the Mint does make some money on coins when they are ordered. They cost about .12 to make so they have spent 36 millon dollars or so to make 300 million Sacagawea dollars that the banks won't order so they don't go into circulation. What makes you think anyone other than collectors even care about this coin?
I've heard many favorable people speak highly of this coin, and the sac, and they weren't collectors. People don't use them primarily because they don't see them. I can't tell you how many I've exchanged dollar for dollar. Sure, people will prefer their ragged, delicate, germ-infested bills over a rugged coin, but that doesn't make the coin worthless.
Come on American's start going to the bank and picking up these new dollar coins. They are the future! Don't forget to ask for Sacagawea and Susan B. Anthony dollars as well!
Thanks for your comment. I am a regular user of Presidential Dollars and Sacagawea dollar coins. I have put a couple hundred in circulation, and still do. I am not a fan of the Susan B Anthony, but some people really like them. I do collect them, but I won't spend those coins. Have a great day!
You are entitled to that opinion. The point is, that it will continue the collectors that started with the State Quarters Program, and even bring new numismatists to the hobby. It is also to create interest. Sacagawea (NOT a dead president) will be minted 25% of each year's dollar mintage. So, if you want new dollar coins, get Sacagaweas. Either way, they are legal tender, and still spend like money. Thanks for watching my video, and it's nice to hear other's opinions.
They are worth 1 dollar each. If you mean collectors value a sacagawea coin would be worth a little more because it is older. I don't imagine that collectors would value one much higher over the other though.
Thanks for the shoutout! I'm actually starting to consider making a video on my coin collection thingy, although I don't know very much about them. Hmm.. anyhoo, good video! take care
So there not worth anything
