It should tell you something that this rally was essentially ignored by the media. The media is in on the game - they are the problem.. they are not on the side of the people.
I'll check out your page after this. But I believe Nader "only" got 1% in 2000. He is already polling way ahead of that across the nation, yet he's getting far less press. Why? To keep it between a Republican and Democrat perhaps. And a positive follow up to that question is, despite getting so little coverage, why is Nader polling higher? I can't say why for others, but for me, I am hungry for a real national dialogue about policy.
Bob Barr, is a former Republican running as a Libertarian and is currently polling 4th behind Obama, McCain and Nader.
I will be writing to both McCain and Obama's campaign asking them to open up the debates, if not to everyone, then AT LEAST to the former standards set forth by the League of Women Voters ... the standards that Nader already exceeds (5% in the polls) and also "allowed" Perot to debate in 1992.
To those going to Denver, please record footage of the rally, and any confrontations you guys have with angry democrats/police, and upload the videos to YouTube
i left a comment on this channel the other day. the two-party candidates have got to go. if you call the campaigns to ask if they support open debates, well, they don't answer which is answer enough. mccain is suing to barr off the ballot in pa. dirty politics as usual. go ralph!
Hey Ralph, thanks for everything you've done over the years! Lots of us on the right want open debates, also! Will you invite Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin to Denver, also? That would be great! Or, can y'all come to Minneapolis during the Republican National Convention? Left and Right unite for open debates!
Nader's a great debater and would shame the competition. That is the only reason Ralph Nader isn't allowed at the debates. Keep Freedom! Open the Debates! Let's vote in a real president, not a corporate puppet!
They are afraid he will win, plain and simple. If you give Americans a third option that actually makes sense, what else would you expect to happen? Go Ralph!
Every American who stands for leaders who will fight corporate crime, protect everyone from health care being denied or driving us into hopeless debt, will implement significantly more efficient energy technology and renewable energy, and will restore our Bill of Rights by abolishing the Patriot Act, needs to support Ralph Nader's participation in all of our Presidential debates.
Let Ralph debate! So many citizens seem unaware that McCain and Obama are not the only people running for president this year. Let everyone participate in the debates, I say!
To those going to Denver, please record footage of the rally, and any confrontations you guys have with angry democrats/police, and upload the videos to YouTube
If main stream media would just let the people know they have a choice. Here in Alabama the people I talk to are against opening up the debates. They just don't know there are more than 2 parties.
I am so glad Ralph Nader made the choice to run again. I believe people will look at him through different eyes this time. Alot of people are waking up to the same ole same ole. I know im tired of being up the creek without a paddle.
If you compare the issues page on both Obamas and Naders site you can see the difference. Obamas site doesn't even want the surfers to understand what he is about, but even somebody with ADHD (possibly everybody nowadays) can see right away what Nader is about.
I'll be voting for Ralph Nader - McCain & Obama are bought & sold. The GOP& DNC are bought & sold. You know this!
Congress & Bush's Polls are in the dump - 80%of the American people r sick & tired of the duopoly in DC - THINK! Obama already cashed in - see opensecretsdotorg. LOOK! He's betrayed his supporters.
Got to start somewhere, why not with you?
Send a message that you've had enough.
Let Nader debate, make the two parties earn your vote. Now That's DEMOCRACY
Obama is just another war monger who uses the words "Hope & Change" to Deceive those who long for it, Obama will not bring peace and neither will McCain.
A vote for the Democrats is a vote for Republican policies.
Clinton passed NAFTA, made it official U.S. policy for "regime change" in Iraq, built up the Pentagon budget AFTER the cold war had ended. The Democrats didn't do shit to stop Bush. They voted for war with Iraq, and they KEEP funding it. They are plenty powerful to do the opposite, but they don't give a shit about working people - just political power.
Obama and McCain both bow to the god of AIPAC, The Jewish Lobby, and our tax dollars are going to support Israel. Why should our tax dollars go to support a country who is killing Palestinians to take their land away? Why should we support a country who wants to bomb Iran because that poor country feels threatened? We need a President who will care for OUR people for a change. VOTE RALPH NADER!!!!
Nader is scaring the Demoncraps who drool over Obomba their Uncle Tom AIPAC corporate owned puppet.Nader would destroy Obomba in a debate.Let Ralph Debate !!!
If Nader doesn't get in the debates then the system is a sick joke ! The 2 party corporate dictatorship is not democratic and free elections don't exist. If Nader is in the debates millions of non voters will have a reason to vote.
Nader supporters, help contact the campaign & supporters of McKinney & the Green Party, Kucinich & Gravel to unite as allies not rivals of the true progressive cause, and the shared experience of being excluded from the debates that we're protesting. Also contact Barr, Baldwin & Ron Paul as true conservative & libertarian voices were also excluded
We need a massive showing at this rally to visibly show the people that there are voices that demand to be represented in this so called democracy.
To those going to Denver, please record footage of the rally, and any confrontations you guys have with angry democrats/police, and upload the videos to YouTube
obama will never debate you unless he's forced to. that's been clear from the start. debating you would only expose his clear lack of representation -his betrayal, in fact - on all causes progressives value. we need a system in which all candidates who collect a certain number of signatures are required to engage in public debates and which all forms of media would be required to broadcast. good luck to all of us, because nothing in this society is functioning democratically.
NEVER in my life have I felt so strongly about a presidential candidate. I will be proudly exercising my right and voting NADER/GONZALEZ in Novemeber.
I figured out the difference between Obama and Mc Cain/Bush. Mc Cain wants to stay in Iraq, and Obama wants to invade Iran and Pakistan. I can't believe people buy this shit. Although I know tons of great and nice Americans, the majority is ignorant and plain stupid.
Obama is just another war monger who uses the words "Hope & Change" to Deceive those who long for it, Obama will not bring peace and neither will McCain.
Thank God the Broncos have until Sept 14th to clean up the mess the libfucks will leave behind at Invesco Field ... there should be time to disinfect the seating as well (i.e. AIDS; STD's). I can only hope the Black Panthers and Nation of Islam, after learning Hussein didn't select another africanized american as his running mate, will leave something behind that isn't burned or shot full of holes so I can return someday to visit family members.
It's showing the video for me. Are you going via youtube directly, or are you clicking on the link via the Nader website, because sometimes via the website it can say not avaliable.
The Google debates originally scheduled for Sept. 18th in New Orleans will probably be cancelled because Obama refuses to participate. Google has received hundreds of letters asking Google to open up the debates to all qualified candidates. Candidates that are polling at significant levels (like 5% with little mainstream media coverage) and who will be on enough ballot lines to received 270 electoral college votes. Obama had said he would debate but has flip flopped again. Let Ralph Debate!
In the US Senate, Obama continued interfering with patients' full recovery for tortious conduct. He was a sponsor of the National Medical Error Disclosure and Compensation Act of 2005. The bill requires hospitals to disclose errors to patients and has a mechanism whereby disclosure, coupled with apologies, is rewarded by limiting patients' economic recovery. Rather than simply mandating disclosure
Moreover, it ignored that courts were already empowered to adjust awards when appropriate, and that the Illinois Supreme Court had previously ruled such limits on tort reform violated the state constitution.
These seemingly unusual votes wherein Obama aligns himself with Republican Party interests aren't new. While in the Illinois Senate, Obama voted to limit the recovery that victims of medical malpractice could obtain through the courts. Capping non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases means a victim cannot fully recover for pain and suffering or for punitive damages.
Why wouldn't Obama have voted to create the first federal ceiling on predatory credit card interest rates, particularly as he calls himself a champion of the poor and middle classes? Perhaps he was signaling to the corporate establishment that they need not fear him. For all of his dynamic rhetoric about lifting up the masses, it seems Obama has little intention of doing anything concrete to reverse the cycle of poverty many struggle to overcome.
Now Obama explains his vote by saying the amendment was poorly written or set the ceiling too high. His explanation isn't credible as Obama offered no lower number as an alternative, and didn't put forward his own amendment clarifying whatever language he found objectionable.
Obama has a way of ducking hard votes or explaining away his bad votes by trying to blame poorly-written statutes. Case in point: an amendment he voted on as part of a recent bankruptcy bill before the US Senate would have capped credit card interest rates at 30 percent. Inexplicably, Obama voted against it, although it would have been the beginning of setting these predatory lending rates under federal control. Even Senator Hillary Clinton supported it.
After forty lawsuits were filed against Wal-Mart for allegedly forcing employees to work "off the clock," four state courts certified these suits as class actions. Not a single federal court did so, although the practice probably involves hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide."
Why would a civil rights lawyer knowingly make it harder for working-class people to have their day in court, in effect shutting off avenues of redress?
in which federal judges are reluctant to dabble. And even if federal judges do take on these suits, with only 678 of them on the bench (compared with 9,200 state judges), already overburdened dockets will grow. Thus, the bill will make class actions most of which involve discrimination, consumer fraud and wage-and-hour violations all but impossible. One example:
Nation contributor Dan Zegart noted further: "On its face, the class-action bill is mere procedural tinkering, transferring from state to federal court actions involving more than $5 million where any plaintiff is from a different state from the defendant company. But federal courts are much more hostile to class actions than their state counterparts; such cases tend to be rooted in the finer points of state law,
"Opposed by most major civil rights and consumer watchdog groups, this Big Business-backed legislation was sold to the public as a way to stop "frivolous" lawsuits. But everyone in Washington knew the bill's real objective was to protect corporate abusers."
By contrast, Senators Clinton, Edwards and Kerry joined 23 others to vote against CAFA, noting the "reform" was a thinly-veiled "special interest extravaganza" that favored banking, creditors and other corporate interests. David Sirota, the former spokesman for Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee, commented on CAFA in the June 26, 2006 issue of The Nation,
Long a desired objective of large corporations and President George Bush, Obama in effect voted to deny redress in many of the courts where these kinds of cases have the best chance of surviving corporate legal challenges. Instead, it forces them into the backlogged Republican-judge dominated federal courts.
In 2005, Obama joined Republicans in passing a law dubiously called the Class Action Fairness Act (CAFA) that would shut down state courts as a venue to hear many class action lawsuits.
Moreover, it appears he intends to "redeploy" the troops he takes out of the unpopular war in Iraq and send them to Afghanistan. So it appears that under Obama's plan the US will remain heavily engaged in war.
At the same event, Obama committed to keeping enough soldiers in Iraq to "carry out our counter-terrorism activities there" which includes "striking at al Qaeda in Iraq." What he didn't say is this continued warfare will require an estimated 60,000 troops to remain in Iraq according to a May 2006 report prepared by the Center for American Progress.
Recently, with anti-war sentiment on the rise, Obama declared he will get our combat troops out of Iraq in 2009. But Obama isn't actually saying he wants to get all of our troops out of Iraq. At a September 2007 debate before the New Hampshire primary, moderated by Tim Russert, Obama refused to commit to getting our troops out of Iraq by January 2013 and, on the campaign trail, he has repeatedly stated his desire to add 100,000 combat troops to the military.
This is the same Lieberman who Alexander Cockburn called "Bush's closest Democratic ally on the Iraq War." Why would Obama have done that if he was truly against the war?
And in March 2006, Obama went out of his way to travel to Connecticut to campaign for Senator Joseph Lieberman who faced a tough challenge by anti-war candidate Ned Lamont. At a Democratic Party dinner attended by Lamont, Obama called Lieberman "his mentor" and urged those in attendance to vote and give financial contributions to him.
And though he often cites his background as a civil rights lawyer, Obama voted to reauthorize the Patriot Act in July 2005, easily the worse attack on civil liberties in the last half-century. It allows for wholesale eavesdropping on American citizens under the guise of anti-terrorism efforts.
He also voted to confirm Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State despite her complicity in the Bush Administration's various false justifications for going to war in Iraq. Why would he vote to make one of the architects of "Operation Iraqi Liberation" the head of US foreign policy? Curiously, he lacked the courage of 13 of his colleagues who voted against her confirmation.
Obama's campaign says he was referring to the ongoing occupation and how best to stabilize the region. But why wouldn't he have taken the opportunity to urge withdrawal if he truly opposed the war? Was he trying to signal to conservative voters that he would subjugate his anti-war position if elected to the US Senate and perhaps support a lengthy occupation? Well as it turns out, he's done just that.
The difference, in my mind, is who's in a position to execute." The Tribune went on to say that Obama, "now believes US forces must remain to stabilize the war-ravaged nation a policy not dissimilar to the current approach of the Bush administration."
Let's start with his signature position against the Iraq war. Obama has sent mixed messages at best.
First, he opposed the war in Iraq while in the Illinois state legislature. Once he was running for US Senate though, when public opinion and support for the war was at its highest, he was quoted in the July 27, 2004 Chicago Tribune as saying, "There's not that much difference between my position and George Bush's position at this stage.
But his record suggests that he is incapable of ushering in any kind of change I'd like to see. It is one of accommodation and concession to the very political powers that we need to reign in and oppose if we are to make truly lasting advances.
This is a candidate who says he's going to usher in change; that he is a different kind of politician who has the skills to get things done. He reminds us again and again that he had the foresight to oppose the war in Iraq. And he seems to have a genuine interest in lifting up the poor.
Like most, I know he gave a stirring speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. I know he defeated Alan Keyes in the Illinois Senate race; although it wasn't much of a contest (Keyes was living in Maryland when he announced). Recently, I started looking into Obama's voting record, and I'm afraid to say I'm not just uninspired: I'm downright fearful. Here's why:
Part of me shares the enthusiasm for Barack Obama. After all, how could someone calling themself a progressive not sense the importance of what it means to have an African-American so close to the presidency? But as his campaign has unfolded, and I heard that we are not red states or blue states for the 6th or 7th time, I realized I knew virtually nothing about him.
Most of all, I am very much in favor of opening up the debates. That means doing away with the CPD. No major party candidates agree, but any American that hasn't been brainwashed by party propaganda that takes an honest look at the CPD will see how biased, flawed and rigged the whole system is. Even Walter Cronkite called the CPD an "unconscionable fraud." See opendebates . org

get away from the climate change issue nader, google Solar Warming. Al Gore is being sued by the founder of the weather channel, global warming is NOT our fault.
6 against commmitting annual funding of Israel's military occupying Palestine with US taxpayers money just to pander for AIPAC
6 supports single payer healthcare
7 supports investing in renewable energy (not nuclear due to hazadorous waste)
8 supports Ni4D
This is an agenda worth fighting for, and the only reason why he and other are shut out of the debates is because the corporate run media is threatned by the impact of their message which actually is supported by the public.
1 ending the war in Iraq AND the military occupation supported by >70% of Iraqi's and the Iraqi PM, and the US Iraq Veterans Against the war (IVAW)(look uo their videos of what it is like to be under military ccupation)
2 against afghanistan war that has killed more civilins than 9/11
3 no new wars in Pakistan or Iran
4 against military expansion when US is in debt, & healthcare, infrstructure & education is underfunded
obama will never debate you unless he's forced to. that's been clear from the start. debating you would only expose his clear lack of representation -his betrayal, in fact - on all causes progressives value. we need a system in which all candidates who collect a certain number of signatures are required to engage in public debates and which all forms of media would be required to broadcast. good luck to all of us, because nothing in this society is functioning democratically.
I don't doubt YouTube may not be playing fair. But Nader's vids are getting several thousand hits but he still has only 1500 subscibers. Why aren't they subscribing? All the effort of the campaign is going to ballot access.
Why would google let Nader into it's debate when he can't generate a comparable number of subscribers. Where are the Nader supporters to get the job done as they did for Ron Paul? Why hasn't Nader had fundrainsing days like Puals'money bombs? Where is his support?
I know why now because there's no way Bob Barr would be more popular than Ralph Nader. Even Ron Paul supporters complain about his record.
If you search for Obama, McCain Barr or Ron Paul on youtube a blue box comes up to direct you to their channel. Whereas if you search for Nader there is no box that directs to the channel, so you get videos that have tagged his name not nessecarily from the Nader campaign, so new people searching for him aren't directed to the Nader youtube campaign.
I checked it out and you are right. I don't know why they are doing it but they are. With enough Nader supporters clamoring for Youtube to do the right thing they might. Like adding Nader to the YouChoose08 page that only has Obama and Grandpa McCain.
we got decision08 on MySpace/NBC to add Ralph Nader to the page as a top friend (still not a candidate). In my favorites there are some video's addressing youchoose08 and Ralph Nader. Ralph Nader's MySpace is much better than Barr's. We have to get RN added to Youchoose08 ASAP. Open the debates super rally at the DNC in Denver will help
Great job but it's Google/YouTube that is hosting the Debate. I focus on YouTube see my channel VideoNewsService. I spent a day with Nader here in Illinois and got some video up on my channel. It takes pressure to get things done and the media look at how much money your campaign has and how much support you can show. If there was a real effort to get Nader subscriber numbers up with Grandpa McCain YouTube could be forced to put them on the YouChoose08 page. They couldn't ignore Nader at 10,000.
There are approximately 8,000 friends on the Nader facebook page, so the supporters are there but for some reason aren't subscribed to youtube which has a wider audience.
If the Nader videos were tagged to ron paul, mckinney, kucinich, gravel, barr, cindy sheehan, baldwin, green party etc. supporters then it would get more views, as those supporters campaign with us for the same anti war cause.
More people will subscribe to helps get on the google youtube debate in New Orleans in September
I believe that if we at least get 10,000 people to this rally it will show the establishment it is time to open the debates and that we want 3rd part candidates into the debates give em hell ralph
Reach out to Gravel, Kucinich, McKinney and of course Nader/Gonzalez supporters using the internet. We're all allies for the true progressive cause of ending the Iraq, and Afghanistan war and it's occupation, cutting military spending whewn US is in debt to invest in underfunded infrstructure, healthcare and education.
The Gravel campaign has already placed this video on their youtube site in support of this event.
Show vissibly WE THE PEOPLE demand representation of our voice in the debates
According to Nader's website Cindy Sheehan will be a guest speeker.
The Gravel campaign has posted Nader's opendebate super rally on his website so that's a sign of his support and hopefully he'll be there.
Hopefully we can get Kucinich and McKinney to unite with us at Denver as allies for the true anti war candidates to unite which will bring in thousands to unite the anti war movement, and get Ron Paul, Barr and Baldwin at the 2nd super rally during the RNC.
RE:"What Would Nader Do?" That shouldn't be your question. You should be asking, "What has Nader done?". And its already a long list, on your behalf. eg. Freedom of Information Act, Clean Drinking Water Act...Just browse "Ralph Nader", you'll see all the work he has successfully completed for you over the last few decades. One thing Ralph Nader certainly will do if elected: respect the US' admirable Constitution with diligence and integrity. Wouldn't that alone be nice, for a change? R.Nader 08!
" Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
----------------
Nader, Ron Paul, Kucinich, Gravel, McKinney, Barr and Baldwin supporters unite as allies not rivals at these super rallies in Denver and Minneapolis to vissibly show that WE THE PEOPLE demand representation of our views in the debates.
It's really true though that the media is the main reason why they can get away with shoving a 2 party only system down our throats. If they would only equally talk about other people running it would open the public minds up to so many more possibilities.
I URGE YOU ALL: DO NOT OBEY ANY LAWS WRITTEN BY DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS! Those laws are invalid, since they were forced upon us by a dictatorship. THAT is how to get Nader, Communists, Socialists, Greens, Libertarians into the debates. Start by torturing & executing the scum that runs Guantanamo prison. Just because they got easy cushy do-nothing stress-free gov't jobs in military, they are cowardly unpatriotic anti-American traitors to freedom and justice.
Yes - Nader did cause the Democrats, Libertarians, Socialists, and Communists to lose in the 2000 and 2004 elections. And they each caused Nader and the other parties to lose. It is called competition. 99.99999% of humans on earth do not understand cause and effect. That is why a total nuclear war would be fun for them - because they are too stupid to compute effects. I am glad Nader caused the Dems to lose. I voted and will vote Nader, even though I am pro-war radical.
Being a disability self-advocate often involved in access advocacy efforts, it comes to Mind to wonder how this would not somehow fall under some veil of discrimination..
*Discrimination* because *a Person* has *a PARTY label* that is *different*, and that different label is not receiving the *EXACT SAME FULL ACCESS* to that which others in the *EXACT SAME (political) SHOES* attend..
Closed Debates = NO Democracy
OPEN the DEBATES / Let NADER Debate!!
No more Pay-Or-Die health Care System!
We Want Single-Payer like Canada!
NADER/Gonzalez = WE the PEOPLE
Democrats and Republicans = THEY the CORPORATIONS
* They're blocking him from debating because they're quite scared!
* "Spoiler" is a politically bigoted word used keep the independents out of the race.

to be trusted as they've proven over and over!

Let Ralph Debate!
redwoodsforever 3 years ago 4
It will happen if the people show there is demand for it.
Go to the official youtube video announcing the New Orleans debate entitled:
"Announcing a Presidential Forum in New Orleans"
We should all say that the requirement should be to be on the Presidential ballot in the Louisiana state only if it was trully open to all candidates.
Secondly, quote a recent zogy poll that shows almost 50% of americans want Nader and Barr to debate, particulary independents.

RNMG007 3 years ago
Moreover, it ignored that courts were already empowered to adjust awards when appropriate, and that the Illinois Supreme Court had previously ruled such limits on tort reform violated the state constitution.
RNMG007 3 years ago
LIMITING NON-ECONOMIC DAMAGES:
These seemingly unusual votes wherein Obama aligns himself with Republican Party interests aren't new. While in the Illinois Senate, Obama voted to limit the recovery that victims of medical malpractice could obtain through the courts. Capping non-economic damages in medical malpractice cases means a victim cannot fully recover for pain and suffering or for punitive damages.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Why wouldn't Obama have voted to create the first federal ceiling on predatory credit card interest rates, particularly as he calls himself a champion of the poor and middle classes? Perhaps he was signaling to the corporate establishment that they need not fear him. For all of his dynamic rhetoric about lifting up the masses, it seems Obama has little intention of doing anything concrete to reverse the cycle of poverty many struggle to overcome.
RNMG007 3 years ago 3
Now Obama explains his vote by saying the amendment was poorly written or set the ceiling too high. His explanation isn't credible as Obama offered no lower number as an alternative, and didn't put forward his own amendment clarifying whatever language he found objectionable.
RNMG007 3 years ago 2
CREDIT CARD INTEREST RATES:
Obama has a way of ducking hard votes or explaining away his bad votes by trying to blame poorly-written statutes. Case in point: an amendment he voted on as part of a recent bankruptcy bill before the US Senate would have capped credit card interest rates at 30 percent. Inexplicably, Obama voted against it, although it would have been the beginning of setting these predatory lending rates under federal control. Even Senator Hillary Clinton supported it.
RNMG007 3 years ago
After forty lawsuits were filed against Wal-Mart for allegedly forcing employees to work "off the clock," four state courts certified these suits as class actions. Not a single federal court did so, although the practice probably involves hundreds of thousands of employees nationwide."
Why would a civil rights lawyer knowingly make it harder for working-class people to have their day in court, in effect shutting off avenues of redress?
RNMG007 3 years ago
in which federal judges are reluctant to dabble. And even if federal judges do take on these suits, with only 678 of them on the bench (compared with 9,200 state judges), already overburdened dockets will grow. Thus, the bill will make class actions most of which involve discrimination, consumer fraud and wage-and-hour violations all but impossible. One example:
RNMG007 3 years ago
Nation contributor Dan Zegart noted further: "On its face, the class-action bill is mere procedural tinkering, transferring from state to federal court actions involving more than $5 million where any plaintiff is from a different state from the defendant company. But federal courts are much more hostile to class actions than their state counterparts; such cases tend to be rooted in the finer points of state law,
RNMG007 3 years ago
"Opposed by most major civil rights and consumer watchdog groups, this Big Business-backed legislation was sold to the public as a way to stop "frivolous" lawsuits. But everyone in Washington knew the bill's real objective was to protect corporate abusers."
RNMG007 3 years ago
By contrast, Senators Clinton, Edwards and Kerry joined 23 others to vote against CAFA, noting the "reform" was a thinly-veiled "special interest extravaganza" that favored banking, creditors and other corporate interests. David Sirota, the former spokesman for Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee, commented on CAFA in the June 26, 2006 issue of The Nation,
RNMG007 3 years ago
Long a desired objective of large corporations and President George Bush, Obama in effect voted to deny redress in many of the courts where these kinds of cases have the best chance of surviving corporate legal challenges. Instead, it forces them into the backlogged Republican-judge dominated federal courts.
RNMG007 3 years ago
CLASS ACTION REFORM:
In 2005, Obama joined Republicans in passing a law dubiously called the Class Action Fairness Act (CAFA) that would shut down state courts as a venue to hear many class action lawsuits.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Moreover, it appears he intends to "redeploy" the troops he takes out of the unpopular war in Iraq and send them to Afghanistan. So it appears that under Obama's plan the US will remain heavily engaged in war.
This is hardly a position to get excited about.
RNMG007 3 years ago
At the same event, Obama committed to keeping enough soldiers in Iraq to "carry out our counter-terrorism activities there" which includes "striking at al Qaeda in Iraq." What he didn't say is this continued warfare will require an estimated 60,000 troops to remain in Iraq according to a May 2006 report prepared by the Center for American Progress.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Recently, with anti-war sentiment on the rise, Obama declared he will get our combat troops out of Iraq in 2009. But Obama isn't actually saying he wants to get all of our troops out of Iraq. At a September 2007 debate before the New Hampshire primary, moderated by Tim Russert, Obama refused to commit to getting our troops out of Iraq by January 2013 and, on the campaign trail, he has repeatedly stated his desire to add 100,000 combat troops to the military.
RNMG007 3 years ago
This is the same Lieberman who Alexander Cockburn called "Bush's closest Democratic ally on the Iraq War." Why would Obama have done that if he was truly against the war?
RNMG007 3 years ago
And in March 2006, Obama went out of his way to travel to Connecticut to campaign for Senator Joseph Lieberman who faced a tough challenge by anti-war candidate Ned Lamont. At a Democratic Party dinner attended by Lamont, Obama called Lieberman "his mentor" and urged those in attendance to vote and give financial contributions to him.
RNMG007 3 years ago
And though he often cites his background as a civil rights lawyer, Obama voted to reauthorize the Patriot Act in July 2005, easily the worse attack on civil liberties in the last half-century. It allows for wholesale eavesdropping on American citizens under the guise of anti-terrorism efforts.
RNMG007 3 years ago
He also voted to confirm Condoleezza Rice as Secretary of State despite her complicity in the Bush Administration's various false justifications for going to war in Iraq. Why would he vote to make one of the architects of "Operation Iraqi Liberation" the head of US foreign policy? Curiously, he lacked the courage of 13 of his colleagues who voted against her confirmation.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Since taking office in January 2005 he has voted to approve every war appropriation the Republicans have put forward, totaling over $300 billion.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Obama's campaign says he was referring to the ongoing occupation and how best to stabilize the region. But why wouldn't he have taken the opportunity to urge withdrawal if he truly opposed the war? Was he trying to signal to conservative voters that he would subjugate his anti-war position if elected to the US Senate and perhaps support a lengthy occupation? Well as it turns out, he's done just that.
RNMG007 3 years ago
The difference, in my mind, is who's in a position to execute." The Tribune went on to say that Obama, "now believes US forces must remain to stabilize the war-ravaged nation a policy not dissimilar to the current approach of the Bush administration."
RNMG007 3 years ago
THE WAR IN IRAQ
Let's start with his signature position against the Iraq war. Obama has sent mixed messages at best.
First, he opposed the war in Iraq while in the Illinois state legislature. Once he was running for US Senate though, when public opinion and support for the war was at its highest, he was quoted in the July 27, 2004 Chicago Tribune as saying, "There's not that much difference between my position and George Bush's position at this stage.
RNMG007 3 years ago
But his record suggests that he is incapable of ushering in any kind of change I'd like to see. It is one of accommodation and concession to the very political powers that we need to reign in and oppose if we are to make truly lasting advances.
RNMG007 3 years ago
This is a candidate who says he's going to usher in change; that he is a different kind of politician who has the skills to get things done. He reminds us again and again that he had the foresight to oppose the war in Iraq. And he seems to have a genuine interest in lifting up the poor.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Like most, I know he gave a stirring speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. I know he defeated Alan Keyes in the Illinois Senate race; although it wasn't much of a contest (Keyes was living in Maryland when he announced). Recently, I started looking into Obama's voting record, and I'm afraid to say I'm not just uninspired: I'm downright fearful. Here's why:
RNMG007 3 years ago
Part of me shares the enthusiasm for Barack Obama. After all, how could someone calling themself a progressive not sense the importance of what it means to have an African-American so close to the presidency? But as his campaign has unfolded, and I heard that we are not red states or blue states for the 6th or 7th time, I realized I knew virtually nothing about him.
RNMG007 3 years ago
Most of all, I am very much in favor of opening up the debates. That means doing away with the CPD. No major party candidates agree, but any American that hasn't been brainwashed by party propaganda that takes an honest look at the CPD will see how biased, flawed and rigged the whole system is. Even Walter Cronkite called the CPD an "unconscionable fraud." See opendebates . org

John McCain 12,121

I know why now because there's no way Bob Barr would be more popular than Ralph Nader. Even Ron Paul supporters complain about his record.
If you search for Obama, McCain Barr or Ron Paul on youtube a blue box comes up to direct you to their channel. Whereas if you search for Nader there is no box that directs to the channel, so you get videos that have tagged his name not nessecarily from the Nader campaign, so new people searching for him aren't directed to the Nader youtube campaign.

They couldn't ignore Nader at 10,000.
agitcam 3 years ago
agreed. an action alert was sent to the email list asking everyone to join the official channel a month ago. That needs to be done again.
jacobpsweeney 3 years ago
There are approximately 8,000 friends on the Nader facebook page, so the supporters are there but for some reason aren't subscribed to youtube which has a wider audience.
If the Nader videos were tagged to ron paul, mckinney, kucinich, gravel, barr, cindy sheehan, baldwin, green party etc. supporters then it would get more views, as those supporters campaign with us for the same anti war cause.
More people will subscribe to helps get on the google youtube debate in New Orleans in September

What Would Nader Do?
Dutchoven08 3 years ago
RE:"What Would Nader Do?" That shouldn't be your question. You should be asking, "What has Nader done?". And its already a long list, on your behalf. eg. Freedom of Information Act, Clean Drinking Water Act...Just browse "Ralph Nader", you'll see all the work he has successfully completed for you over the last few decades. One thing Ralph Nader certainly will do if elected: respect the US' admirable Constitution with diligence and integrity. Wouldn't that alone be nice, for a change? R.Nader 08!

When Nader debates hell will break loose on the Republicans and Democrats. I hope Nader exposes the truth on LIVE tv to the world.
NADER!!!

Kill all prison guards.

Make sense..?

Let Nader debate, it supposed to be free and fair elections.
The candidate who holds majority opinions on the most important issues is not "allowed" to be seen and heard by the people?
They call it democracy! Hahaha!
