I'm looking at a 2000 M5 with and plan on straight piping it. Man am I going to be at the gas station a lot.

@bobrec3GTI its a six speed. cruising gear would be 4th at 35mph... you dont drive it fast all the time. lol. plus its a v8 not a 4banger. idles at 500rpms and makes decent power at 1500

@viperbite18 well Ive been in one of these.. Its nothing like an American V8 would act.. It revs very high and the power is all over the revs..

@bobrec3GTI it is different because it has 4 valves per cyl, itbs, vanos on the intake & exhaust cam - not only on/off but completely adjustable. vanos makes the car more efficient at lower rpm's by adjusting when the valves open and close. the cam timing changes according to engine load, oil pressure relative to rpm's, air flow, engine temperature ect. the torque curve on an m5 is very similar to any other v8 with exception to the low and high rpms. torque is flatter, more power up top.

@viperbite18 In fact, the 550i e60 (mine lol) uses vanos to COMPLETELY control air intake into the engine... no throttle butterfly or anything.... all reliant on *valve lift* and duration. i think it's engineering at it's greatest to be honest
