  • 3:36!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Akira really knocks the ball out of the park. What a crack team!

  • the keyboardist make the same faces of orgasm that alan holdswoth does when he play

  • Does Dennis chambers come in early for the shots at 3:36?

  • @olelumpy yes he did

  • @tramontane well, he may have messed up but he recovers like the pro he is.

  • @olelumpy He isn't perfect.

  • @olelumpy Don't think so. His crashes came as a syncope and the snare was on the 2, as he normally plays it in that course.

  • @olelumpy Oh you mean he played them a quarter earlier and didn't mean it...

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • long live AH!! long live GH!!!

  • I reckon this solo is awful. Holdsworth may play fast but at least there's narrative behind it. What is this but a demonstration of tricks? Not a discerning example at all.

  • This is amazing but Greg really is overplaying here, spoils it slightly.

  • That bass looks VERY heavy.

  • I find this version waaaayyy better than on their CD, "Extraction." Still though, awesome musicians, awesome music

  • demais!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice one...chambers is a beast...:) thanks for posting

  • WOWOWOWOWOW OMG funkin greg is the S%$# and the japanese dudes OMG off the freakin chain and DENNIS what can you say

  • 3 full minutes if him improvising! Not a boring second in there! Amazing... The keyboardist is incredible as well!

  • i just wish dennis could groove...............

  • @1juggly i'm assuming this is sarcasm lol

  • @1juggly Clearly you're not aware of how many albums Dennis has GROOVED on....

I'll start you off with one of the many artists he played with/for

    The P-Funk All-Stars back in the 70's

GROOVE WAS A MUST to play that gig

  • @Moog168

yessss!!!!!!! at least I got one person.

  • @1juggly HAAAAA I see wut u did there lololol

  • What is the name of the band?

  • Such a bad ass song, played very well

  • CASIOPEA

  • Makes me think of the future whenever I hear it.

  • Dennis is Ssooooo Sick !!!!

  • cool!

  • didnt know that jackie chan can play the bass

  • @MasterSardu screw that, im more perplexed how he's playing bass and keys at the same time...

  • @zoso4563 hhahahhahah you bastard made me laugh

  • I would love to see Greg Howe having a guitar-jam together with Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Beck and Steve Lukather.. Actually together with this band.

  • medio estilo csmmmmm

  • He just popped that guitar's cherry...OMG

  • I have heard the versions of this song that Allan Holdsworth and Alan Pasqua have performed over the years. This is a very nice up tempo version that takes my breath away. Outstanding work gentlemen in this band. Also, a big thank you to theneweden for posting this clip!

  • アレンを誇りに思うでしょう!グレートは、ジョブ!

  • Who cares about the fucking musical cues, just enjoy the song and video lol

  • Anyone who thinks John Fruiscante, Les Claypool, and Danny Carey are better than Chambers, Sakurai, and Howe are utter fucking morons! This shit owns!

  • Great, GREEEEEAAAATTTT!!!!!!

  • GREG ERES EL MAS GUAPO!

  • excellent musicians....incredible version of this song. ..

  • this is so fucking sick man these guys are not well known enough especially the keyboardist!!!

  • Gawd Damn! Greg Howe is ripped! And he plays a mean guitar!

  • as much as i love greg howes playing , i think he went a little to shreddy and not as tasty as usual.

  • excellent version of the song..wwowooo!!

  • wow, dennis slipped and came in early with the accents around 3:36 - guess it even happens to the masters. (supposed to be 6 of just drums and he did 5 the last time. everyone else nailed it. i bet he was like SHIT! I'm so embarassed.

(now i guess someone is gonna tell me it had to be intentional cuz dennis is sooo deep...yeah right). No one is above a few little mistakes here and there, but this is the first time I heard dennis slip. This proves it happens to ALL players no matter how good.

  • @progjazzfusion haha i noticed that too. If you notice there was some confusion or something going on right before they went into the accents, soo its not all dennis's fault haha.

  • @trevtmk sorry but it was only dennnis mistake. there was no confusion from the other guys going into the accents section...they all hit it perfect. the bassist just looked at the keybdist right before that section to say "ok here we go into the accents"...it's common thing done between players to give a quick look when changing parts. you must not be a musician. I've played for many years and do it all the time and have it done to me...and seen many other bands do it too. solely dennis fault

  • @progjazzfusion We are talking about the same thing but I noticed at 3:11 Greg looks at everyone at the beginning of the measure. Like, "Come on". I'm familiar with physical cues. I'm a musician also.

  • @trevtmk - i think you are reading too much into their looks. they are all cookin and right on top of everything at 3:11 where greg just casually takes a break and turns slowly as he holds the simple doublestop blues bend he's doing, especially after the intense barrage of notes he just got done with, so he's just taking it easy and waiting for the next idea to strike and where to go with it. Sometimes you need that on long improv tunes like this. My band does this tune too and I'm the guitarist

  • @progjazzfusion well, we're going to have to agree to disagree. IMO I felt greg wanted the transition several measures before, but I could be wrong, really what difference does it make? We both agree that dennis came in too early/

  • @trevtmk - ok looking at it again, at 3:11 greg waves his arm to signal that this is the last cycle of his solo, to then go to the drumbreak section right after it, and that's what they do. no confusion there. that last solo section is the same length as all the others before it which is just a simple progression, so they could not have cut it short or made the transition any sooner. So the transition went perfect and is not related at all to dennis messing up later. thats an isolated incident.

  • after the show Greg Howe got laid....

  • Alan Holdsworth would be proud!

  • @mikesmithson it was actually written by another Alan. Keyboardist Alan Pasqua.

  • NO AY DUDA SON DINAMITA PURA!!! ... Grande Greg

  • the whole band is great, but unfortunately tetsuo sakurai doesn't have a chance to show his talent...

    he's a great bassist.

  • the whole band is killin!

  • just count and stop asking... jk

  • 5 people disliked this

  • justin bieber watched it 5 times.

  • @catapei ... and cried 6 times

  • wow, the piano!

  • 5 people just sold their gear.....

  • I have to agree with everyone about Allan doing better solos on this song. Sounds so weird not hearing Holdsworthian legato on this song.

  • 5 people are envious.

  • I too love, love, love the man on keys...an ultra talent indeed

  • WOW. I need to change my pants now....

  • anyone know time sig?

  • @deepislandboy

    3/4

    then at the f#m7 em7 and dm7 turnaround it's a bar of 2/4

  • Keyboardist..... absolutely seasoned

  • great mix of fast and slow leads

  • I want Skeet to be in this mix.

  • Greg how has 0% bodyfat from playing guitar so burning fast!

  • I've seen Greg play better solos. This track is open for more out there playing but he just seems to be going for a straight ahead rock approach and throwing in a few jazz notes over the changes at the end. Keyboards were pretty cool, though

  • Im sorry Greg..... you are not Allan your play is very confused !!! i dont understan were you go? notes, notes, notes and notes but........were is a feeling?

  • So very well done!!! Kudos to Greg Howe!

  • I love greg dennis and tets but the keys guys is soooo coool going chick on me i absolutley love this but who is the keys player?

  • @hiimcarlg lol!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah just who the hell is he? lol does he even play? lol

  • I love greg dennis and tets but the keys guys is soooo coool going chick on me i absolutley love this but who is the keys player?

  • GRANDE SOUND E GROOVE !!!

  • very god.I have seen scott henderson, another monster of guitar.

  • 3:35 BAD!

  • so cool thanks for posting this treat!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That made my nipples hard.

  • Wauw, this is great!!

Who's that guy on the keys? I don't know him.. Where can you hear him play?

  • sorry I mean one of the

  • he has one the greatest skills of improvisation

  • Holdsworth and Pasqua recorded this in 1975 on the Tony Williams record 'Believe it'. For those who don't know, this song is on the Howe-Chambers-Wooten record 'Extraction' too. And Victor Wooten does an incredible job on the record!!

  • Pure sex was coming out of that bass guitar, thats barry white baby makin bass right there! Gregs solo gave me chills, Keyboards made me dance, Drums held the song together!

  • OMG !!!!!!!!!!

I only discovered Greg Howe yesterday and this totally blows my mind !!!

These guys are all soooooo on top of their game.

    Truly beautiful.

    Thank you for posting this.

    Jez

  • hey me too!

  • @Jez2008UK Perhaps I like it more than the very Holdsworth version...

  • @Zappabain

I love all musicians, but I only like *some* of Allan's work. Maybe I'm just not 'ready' or have a developed enough ear for it.

So yes, I prefer Greg's Proto Cosmos !

  • @Jez2008UK Alan's certainly not for everyone, its all on what your ears prefer. Some people appreciate his modal phrasing, as where others like licks with more coherence and less abstract. Its all good bro.

  • Love the little drum riff at the :40 turnaround.

  • excelent song and excelent band!!!

    3:35 - 3-37 dennis chambers mistake =)

  • Best version of this jamm since the original.

  • The way that keys man totally enjoys his masterclass solo is fun to see, along with the playing.

Building it up to climax, the Rhodes sound...great player!

  • Pardon, have you heard holdsworth"s version? and I stand corrected it was written by Alan Pasqua

  • way too much whammy...

  • Comment removed

  • I love your comment..spot ON...schweet

  • this ain't even a holdsworth piece!!

  • @KATAO333 Gregs a master in his own right though.

  • @tastefulphrasing True...True!!!!!

  • @KATAO333 actually the tune was written by Alan Pasqua...not Holdsworth.

  • Comment removed

  • had he had his Cornford, with that rich, dark tone.... man...

  • it's like akira is playing super amazing final fantasy music over proto cosmos in his solo

  • No I disagree I think Greg Howe did an awesome job and sounded most electrifying and powerful every single note he hits is bad ass.

  • This may piss some people off.....BUUUT I am even a big Greg Howe fan and I think that Akira and Dennis totally steal the show on this one. Greg is great but he did too much silly shredding on this one and I didn't really enjoy it until Akira took the lead.

  • i think you are right just FYI before this tour i think he was playing with justin timberlake so he was not at his best level even so he did a great job did not he?

  • Dude, I agree on that....Greg Howe is top ten guitarists to ever live...but Akira is freakishly superior here

  • i have to agree, tho i must say the version on his "extraction" album is way better - guitarwise.

but i absolutely love love love Akira on this one. Don't know why but the sound somehwat reminds me of this peanuts cartoon ^^ also the grooves are freakin amazing...very latin very jazzy. i payd a lot of money to import this cd and the dvd from japan when it came right out ^^

  • you sir speak the truth.

when i got this dvd i was blown away at first 3 songs but greg started getting really...really really repetive with his improvising but i dont blame him i mean he just got back with playing with both MJ and Justin Timberlake so he was pretty rusty on this tour and even admits it towards the end of the video(i think i posted it up) anyway GH is awesome...but i too feel that Sakurai Chambers and Onozuka pretty much made up the gig.

  • totally agree with you dude! Akira was smoking that night! I am a HUGE Howe fan but too many "get out of jail" shred licks on this DVD!!

  • the entire band as well as individual artists = AMAZING TALENT and musicianship. TOP NOTCH

  • Saw Peter Erskine play this ...Tore It UP!

  • denis is the fucking mannnnnnnn!

  • whats the count?

  • 3, although they throw in mesures of 2 a lot (when they do the hits together)

  • the theme goes like this....1 bar of 2/4 and 2 bars or 3/4

  • 3 and a couple bars of 6 in the begining and middle

  • 3 is 6

  • that is the best guitar tone i have ever heard

  • dennis chambers can play almost anystyle look up his history

  • props to chambers he played the groove exactly how tony played its so good theres no need to change it up

  • This version is better than the cd. I need to know where can I order or shop for these videos please?

  • The best!

  • Can't stop listening to this.... wonderful

  • a great rock player?! everybody knows that howe hasn't played pure rock since the 80's.he's all fusion now.wikipedia greg howe and check out all of his albums.you can definitely tell that even with his fusion his style has changed several times over the years.and even the best of musicians have off days.

  • This tune is an Alan Pasqua tune, not Holdsworth, though Holdsworth is probably more famous for it...

  • if u actually listened to greg howe's music from the 80's until now there is no way that you can say that holdsworth is vastly superior.their styles are different.i do however like holdsworth's version of this song better but greg howe is still the shit! besides howe and holdsworth are friends too

  • I would'nt say he he doesn't have the chops. There's lots of chops on display here. I think the problem is that he's not working theme and variation into his solos. Players like Scott Henderson, for example use lots of thematic repetitions which are part and parcel of theme and variation into their improvs. Greg is just meandering! Honestly the keyboard player is working thematic ideas much better than Greg. You can hear it!

  • I agree. But i liked the way Greg played this song , maybe because i expected him to play in this way .

  • is that a mess up at 3:36-3:38?

  • Yup Dennis came in early but hey who cares....as long as they got back in the song cleanly

  • He meant to do that.

  • I'll ask him the next time I see him.....

  • it sounded like it could have been intentional or a really good recovery.

  • Dennis Is My Hero!

  • smooooth!!! 5*****

  • what kind of snare is that? i love it

  • the album version is better but still you gotta admit he's fucking amazing

  • that was outstanding

    nice move greg

  • this is one of the only bands i like that isn't metal lol.

  • the original version if u can get a hold of it is by alan pasqua from the tony williams band ...its pretty cool also

  • hey

i got a backing track for this song but youtube wont let me post a URL. message me and i'll email it to you. I also have a PDF for the guitar transcription

  • man whats the guys name on the keyboard...does anyone know??? hes a beast!

  • Dennis Chambers no Brasil hahahaha

  • Ronald Bruner Junior played along to this at MDF'06!!

  • Man, compared to Alan Holdsworth, this band SMASHES this tune! It's sounds way more energetic when they play...no diss to Alan. I just like this version better....they killed.

  • tastefull!!

  • I played this song wt. my band and i had make the same mistake as 3:36 haha! It's cool to see that even man like Dennis make mistake... I mean the same mistake that I make HAHAHA ! Just kiding..

  • haha yeh i know how you feel! haha

i made that one too!! but on the 3rd time not the forth :(

  • Makes you feel that at LEAST they have some human in them, being the ALIENS these guys are xD

  • oh yeah I noticed his cymbal crash was off... he probs thought he was in 4 instead of 7

  • I cannot have the AHE when listening this song from Greg Howe... (AHE stands for Allan Holdsworth effect)

  • You could've saved a lot of time and just said Allan Holdsworth Effect instead of saying AHE and then having to explain what it stood for after.

  • Dennis totally destroys the set. Is this on a cd, I know theres a dvd.

  • And for me, he is one of the reasons I practice a lot :)

  • For me Dennis is one of the reason i give-up drumming, i prefer listen to him !

  • inspires you to quit and to play at the same time i hope

  • he has some interesting articulations. holdsworth is still better. better tone also.

  • I have been a Holdsworth fan since his days with Soft Machine...but I feel that Greg's phrasing surpasses Alan's in many ways...Alan's strength lies in his ability to connect from mode to mode seamlessly as does Greg, but Greg offers bends, blue notes, and tapping which opens up a far bigger realm of expression.

  • I have to disagree with you there. It seems to my ear that Howe is roaming around sort of aimlessly and replacing the ideas with technical tricks and collection of detached elements where Holdsworth's playing always sounds almost alien in it's evolving and smooth transitions between modes. His burst melodies are on a totally different level than Howe's struggles. But I guess every listener has his own way to interpret music.

  • My reply was to naturaltoby

  • LMAO @ Howe's struggles.. when comparing him to Holdsworth I'd have to agree.

  • i dn't agree with u!! u r a bit lost i think..because u cannot feel da difference

  • i agree with u!! finally an intelligent guy

  • Dennis was one of t he reason I started drumming. Amazing, the rest of the band is good too.
