@msdanidoodles She didn't scoop, she was slurring to create a legato line- that solo would have sounded completely out of place without the phrasing that she chose to use.
Incredible alto sound!!! The violinist is incredible, the solist rocked, the sopranos rocked. and the men had a deep, rich sound. Awesome job! Perfect tempo!!! This is incredible!
I am performing this song with an extremely large group, and it's very powerful and beautiful. I opened this video and expected it to not be good because of the size of the group. But this was truly stunning. Absolutely perfect, sweet and strong. Well done, really.
while having a big choir is often a plus, it is much easier to make beautiful music with a smaller group-it allows for a tighter, more unified sound. This group, though not exceptionally large, is not terribly small either. That's probably why they do so well--they're small enough to have a tight sound but big enough to really bring out the climactic parts!
I don't think it's odd that they are mixed...it makes for better blend within the sections. If you are singing next to a different part you are more able to hear how the song is supposed to move. It is also easier to tune to a different part than to tune to someone else singing the same thing that you are singing.
Stroope is amazing. I sang his music both in high school and while I've been in college...so hard to pick a favorite...probably Psalm 23 or Winter...or We Beheld Once Again the Stars...also his Sanctus coloratura duet is amazing, I love singing that piece. Stroope's music is the stuff of legends.
wow. I have listened to this song like over 20 times in one day. I appreciate the artistic direction taken with this piece. I sang this song in My All-State reading choir, and its a phenominal piece of literature. The soprano solo is right on, soaring with a powerful yet delicate presence. The group is remarkably blended, and the voices are so mature and lush. Thank you for this post. It is a true example of Stroope excellence.
Gonna be performing this in my high schools spring concert. I'm in love with the song already 3

I sang this three years ago and I'm still looking it up to hear it again. That very rarely happens.

Personally, I liked the slight glissando the soloist had. It made her high note resonate perfectly. Beautiful performance!

ugh. the soloist scooped. =( other than that (and the cameraperson clearing their throat -.- ) it was fantastic.

@AnnieLives
Not that odd... It helps in hearing all the parts, which makes musicality easier.

yes i understand, i'm just not used to seeing it that way. i guess i'd never thought about it before.
