progressive death metal? i don't think they fit in a category like this. i think opeth is a own category! i like the influences of pink floyd and others...
Personally i'm not a metal kinda guy, and i hate that growly shit and those heavy drums, but song like this, to me at least, show what black metal bands are fully capable of. One of the best songs of all time.
@Jaloosifer In my opinion Opeth and some other bands show that metal can be musical music as well instead of poor, unimaginitive shit it is often seen as.
@Benteiron that being said there are ALOT more extremely talented and musically inclined bands than you give Metal credit for. Though alot of it may just seem like noise, plenty of bands display some of the best musicmanship in any genre of music. You just have to know where to look.
@george4mon No need to explain it. A great statement I heard years ago is true today. -- "If you're bored, you're boring." He simply misses the point which is fine. Not everyone likes everything. That's his prerogative.
I've said this before, and its annoyed the fans of opeth (who are the overly sensitive type and display the worst type of arrogance), but this is really a gem of a song. It up there with my favourites and I'm quite traditional with my top ten!!
Its just surprising that most of Opeths stuff (in my humble opinion) is just not very good.
Yes I've listened to their songs over 10 times each and have an informed opinion thannks....
You've said what I've been afraid to say on these videos o.0. But you're right. A lot of them aren't.. However, with that said, some of them are just brilliant.

fav opeth song. though. i reckon they could have left the blackish metal part at the end off, i reckon it was unneccersary, the song had made its statement. 4:35 audiogasm
I love metal and Opeth, but at the same time without rap/pop/hair metal/whatever, extreme metal wouldent exist because thrash metal originated as a rejection of the glam sound of the 80's. i think the popularity of hannah montana and little wayne will only strengthen metal. just my opinion.
I didn't insult you. I was making a joke. Watch Metalocalypse and you will find that is was merely an allusion to a jesting state, that was not meant as an insult. I agree with the historical representation of your metal timeline, but I disagree with Hannah Montana or any of this modern waste strengthening metal. i think more people will like it because they reject popular music: but I disagree in it improving musicianship or genre.
@Snakebite1138 lol i highly doubt it. thrrash did not come out because of rejection of glam/hair hahaha real metal existed before that shit and so did early forms of thrash. the newer bands just incorporated it
metal (or atleast the forebearers of metal) existed before glam, sure. but i think if it werent for those styles of music becoming megapopular at the time then thrash would have been just another metal genre, not the intercontinental movement that it was in the late 80's and 90's. what i do know is that slayer and metallica and others hated most glam and did anything they could to seperate from them creatively.
@Snakebite1138 yeah lol i wouldve hated them too. thats ture. but it still didnt come out specifically to get back at glam is all im sayin. thrash came out really around the same time. but nwobhm with the basic thrash components were out before the real bands.
@Snakebite1138 i think thats bs cause look at all the new metal bands around with the whatever core bullshit tossin in queer techno in the background i think musics going downhill and its been getting worse and worse since the 90's because of the pop movement and rap doesnt help
Something that makes Opeth somekind of the ultimate band is that they can make long songs without becoming boring ... Also, their all songs are interest just because they are unique and they do not repeat theyself!

How does a band make a song that goes for 10 minutes where an audience can easily enjoy every second of it - and want more? I'll tell you: first, you need a set of headphones or speakers, a band called Opeth, and lastly, a song created by Opeth. 'A Fair Judgement' helps us to answer that question as well.
@VargKDM i would like to hear your bands please...... because i doubt that a band can top these guys.
the only band i know that can do soft and dark stuff equally than opeth is anathema i think, and some stuff of pink floyd and another 70s progressive bands
i've figured it out they keep the song great for a long time because just before one tempo starts getting old they change to a different tempo or start or stop growling
its amazing how opeth manage to play long tracks and still make sure they sound great every bit of it ! and all theyr tracks are gd for sure a great album ! Hail opeth from Norway !
