  • This song gets you in the mood to just rock! Love it!!

  • And this is why I love YouTube, I never knew this was out there.

    Thanks LoveHowardBanister!

  • Seriously, where did you ever get this? It's fantastic.

  • What a great groove.

  • Comment removed

  • All these years and I still havn't heard any one quite like Karen. There just arn't any equals.

  • A Wonderful Voice & Person . I so miss her soulfulness.... RIP Ms. Carpenter....

  • Ella fue la inspiración de mi madre para que me comprara mi primera batería! GRACIAS KAREN

  • I can remember Karen & Richard, outside the student center @ Long Beach State College on Friday's, playing & singing, with Karen on drums. They lived about a mile from me over in Downey, California at the time. Karen was a sweetheart; always took requests and could sing anything. I miss her as do many of us.

  • Martha & the Vandellas for sure is good listening but Laura Nyro also did a beaut rendition-worth a listen-its on YT.

  • This song needs to be released on a 2nd Karen Carpenter solo album.

  • owww, that was god aweful

  • If Karen Carpenter had eaten half of Mama Cass's sandwiches, would they both still be alive today?

  • @eggbertsmith Mama Cass died from cardiac arrest - not from "eating a sandwich". A simple search would have kept you from looking like a fool. Although judging from your comment, you don't carry around much upstairs anyway.

  • @eggbertsmith That's an old joke, and it's as tasteless now as it ever was.

  • @eggbertsmith I think that's a reasonable question. But I love them both anyway. :O) Even if Mama Cass died from a heart attack, her weight DEFINITELY contributed to it. Poor Karen-she was by all accounts a real sweetheart.

  • OK, I stand corrected, no need to call names.

  • I just listened to the Martha Reeves version where I learned by reading the

comments that there was a Karen Carpenter version so of course I had

to give it a listen. Karen's version is just so so, I like Martha Reeves version

    much better.

  • oh this is just aweful

  • @Mincer1914 YOU ARE SPECIAL

  • Even this very rough, unfinished "demo" sounds better than many artists' finished work!

  • Very cute version. Have you heard Laura Nyro's version? The arrangement is ecstatic!

    Love your site!

  • a beautiful voice silenced far to soon

  • its too bad they couldnt get her the help she needed, ive always thought she had the voice of an angel

  • Love Karen Carpenter, RIP

  • No one could sing this song like Martha and the Vandellas!!

  • @THURO4EVER You have to admit she sings good though.

  • sponge bob seems pretty smart....you can't go around assuming all sponges are not intelligent. it's just not fair.

  • she's one of the reasons i started playing in the first place.saw them on the Mike Douglas show when I was 3!

  • She would have been the perfect wife for Phil Collins

  • Her heart is in her voice. I wish she could have been happier in life. May God Bless her in eternity.

  • This is a good version - I've never heard it before!

  • JUST TROLLING AWAY.....LA DI DA

  • @BENREDARES You keep trolling away and guess what, your account will be terminated.

  • @BENREDARES

Yet you listened to it - says something about the song and perhaps even you! ;)

  • @BENREDARES Gay feces? Interesting concept - I didn't realize that poop had a sexual orientation...

  • So much talent in one beautiful girl. She had that All American girl look and personality aside from being a true lady. Karen Carpenter is one artist that is truly missed by anyone who had the opportunity to hear her while she was alive and performing.

  • 1:34 makes me so sad, she didn't eat those little tart thingies..and if she did, it certainly wasn't without hours of guilt. I have an eating disorder myself, so I have an idea of what she was going through. Just thought I'd put that out there. This song is beautiful, her voice is so pure.. like a less sassy version of Martha and the Vandellas, yet beautifully sung nonetheless. What a woman.

  • What happened to her magical chest voice?

  • Is that Karen on the drums as well?

  • @darrinbaker00 Most likely. Why have another sit in when she was expert at this style.

  • Many thanks for sharing these! Even though the key is a bit out of Karen's ideal range (as Richard would say), it's still nice. Even at this range you can immediately tell it's Karen. I would have liked to hear it down in her magic zone. And you know she can sing the oldies - her version of 'Johnny Angel' still gives me chills.

  • ...why do i feeel like sticking sowing needles in my eyes??????

  • @SoSeventies cause your an idiot. why else.....

  • @whokeithmoon ...do you still get that pain between your eyes when you urinate?

  • 沢山のぬいぐるみと戯れるカレンが可愛い!

    白のスーツのカレンも良いと思う。

  • Well, well, this pic is really strange!! She's eating XD!! (1:34)

  • @ILoveABBA12 With your youtube nam, you must have an IQ of a sponge

  • @CarpentersFanForLife I was only joking xD :)! An IQ of a sponge, hahahahahaha!!!

  • @ILoveABBA12 You're hilarious! Yes an IQ of a sponge...

  • great version

  • what a treat

  • Id rather listen to karen rather lady gaga or gag gag!

  • This is a nice example of a voice without gimmics. Her voice was pure and honest.

  • @crosscatch I can only imagine how it would be if KC was still with us today. So much nicer than the screaming banshee's of female vocalists we have now. There is a void in the music world that can never be filled without this talented individual. RIP KC

  • i think you need to get your ears cleaned out.

  • @liljon71 You're right!!:D

  • I just don't like how her voice sounds this late in her career...it's like it's sped up.

  • nice to hear Karen sang this song

  • Excellent sound--naturally, from Karen---but the site's choice of photographs--both rare, greatly arranged---are perfect. CHEERS! A JOB WELL DONE. Frank Albrizio, Worcester, Massachusetts. Boy, those memories of Karen's tragic death in 1983 come back--when hearing her voice and where her magical voice would have taken her in this earthly world.

  • Quite nice really.......Don't you think

  • @worddeep3 Horrible person. Arent you?

  • That,s exactly what caused her to to starve

herself to be thin. It started with one idiot to say

she was fat. Right now he's a chunk of a guy.

Look at singers today, they aren't even close to

    Karens talent

  • this is amazing i have NEVER heard this version before now WOW!! i am a big fan of the Martha and The Vandellas version

i did'nt even know this existed! nice one...

  • She is really a brilliant Drummer. So damn smooooooth.

  • @mowbster31 you're kidding right?

  • @mowbster31 I kmow! Amazing talent

  • A voice that I miss hearing which will never be forgotten.

  • I like it also . Either case the Carpenters are still around. Karen will for ever be one of the best voices of music always.

  • Man, people can be mean. Look what one stupid comment can do to someone like Karen. R.I.P.

  • I think her brother suffered a loss that few can imagine and bashing him here serves no purpose. The guy, above all, could arrange and picked (and wrote) great songs for his sister to sing. They were a great team, and were designed to work together.

  • touche! hhahahahha

  • hmmmmm

  • luvv itt :) i so want it on my phone :) xx

  • Slightly spooky - too bad it wasn't Big Mac...

  • the only singer who i will forever give respect to.

  • I like that.

  • Thank you very much for posting! Karen is always in our consciousness,

  • Karen appears so tender and there is a wonderful innocence about her. What a Beautiful woman, what a loss....

  • I completely agree....

  • Have you ever seen an interview with her brother. Very self consumed. Sense that he really din,t have alot of sincere concern for Karen. More so their success. At any rate I do not know why but each time I listen to her voice along with her pictures I am touched very deeply. Anyway very obvious she was in touch with something very very deep. To bad those outside influences.

  • I always feel that her talent was key reason for the success of Carpenters. With a talent like her anybody could have been successful. :) The best thing about her that strikes me most is she never took her talents seriously. Had fun and enjoyed herself all along while her brother's was a much more cut-throat professional approach.

  • They were a 50/50 team - he a song writing genius, she a song-singing angel. Without either one, the Carpenters could not have happened.

  • which songs did he write???

  • Karen started to grow into a full-fledged musician and a person. Kind of like Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys. She wasn't a little girl anymore. I don't think Richard liked that.

  • douche

  • Forever loved, Karen Carpenter. <3

  • with all the vile comments i have seen(especially on a carpenters tune) it is easy to see how fucked this country has become. we have all kinds of great music for us to enjoy. so please take a deep breath and enjoy it....p.s. to all the negatve comments, at least check your spelling...

  • :-)) Favorit! der Song ist wunderbar! Gruß aus Berlin..

  • Karen is number one female vocalist of all time!!!!!!!

  • Its such a pity that such a person who have the ability to transform a mere words to something worthy of appreciation would vanish unfortunately in our midst...

  • In my time that I spend in youtube, I have observed that those people who are losers, always pours their ill feelings and malice on others peoples business...

  • But i Believe in God and in my dreams...Little boy, and i see always the Mirror Of my Soul.

    The true, which you hate...

    Im sorry.

  • My GOD, the poor fool continues to rant and ramble. There are few things as painfully funny as watching a bonafide imbecile trying to sound informed and intelligent. He gives meaning to the phrase "consider the source," and it is self-explanatory as to why such free-flowing rhetorical nonsense can only found on unchecked YouTube.

  • Most often, when one artist sings a version of another artist's song, it is a demonstration of tribute and respect, along the lines of emulation being the greatest form of flattery. Of course Karen's version may not be as effective as Martha's version, but neither would Martha be as effective if she was to emulate any number of Karen's (The Carpenters) creations. People wanting to specifically INSULT and DEGRADE the deceased by comparison, aren't worth the dust on their monitor.

  • My brother is named Jimi and this song always reminded me of him...I only know the original but this version is so awsome...she certainly had the voice of an angel!

  • DIOSA¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • I agree with another poster that this sounds unfinished. The instrumentation is very, very bland, and on this recording, at least, Karen sounds like she's dialing it in (or recording a Smurfs song). A musician of her talent, in my opinion, would not allow this to be released commercially. I'm a guy and can tell you that, in the 70's, I was hot for Karen and pretty much worshiped her voice. But compared to all her other work, and compared to the original Jimmy Mack, this is a stinker.

  • actually you should get a life i was merely suggesting that her rather weak voice shouldn't be broadcasted next to the original singing of martha reeves jeez it was never meant to be a racial comment come on people these days are only looking to much into things. Seriously ask yourself the question look up karen carpenter so called awsome solo or Martha Reeves and the vandellas and compare on volume, feeling and buzz. By the way i'm white and a girl so who's the hypocritcal one now warrior

  • so who's the hypocritcal one now warrior YOU ARE

  • Since when is it about color? Hate? Really? Such a strong word from someone who never even knew her. Read Obama and get some sense, dude.

  • Happy Birthday Karen! (even though I'm a little late).

  • What a privilege to hear this. Karen's work vocals were always perfect and could always be used as finished product. She and Richard wowed everyone with their level of perfection at all times, all done with as a matter of their nature, not with some big struggle.

  • she is My angel

    i share her same ill

  • you should get some help. we don't want you to end up like Karen Carpenter.Tell your mom or your best friend or anyone close to you.

  • thats a physical impossibility.

to lie would mean the mirror is actually sitting there talking to you. now if thats the case then yes i agree with ramsman70, you should definitely seek help cuz we dont want ya to end up like karen carpenter or charles manson.

  • With all do respect, I can't concede to your analysis anymore than can you concede to mine.

In my book of life, optical illusions are synonymous with lies. It is a known fact that many anorexics allow the mirror to dictate their judgment, all I did was offer-up a nullifying effect of this behavior. Never did I, nor would I, discount professional help. I simply offered positive reinforcing tools.

Having said that, let's both move on and live on while realizing the freedom of opinion

    PEACE

  • I hate american wankersm all i can say is this bird id singing a poor version , of Marthas great song , the only thing that ever came from the usa was black singers, who were discimaneted aginst legally until the 70s , so much for decromacy , hipocitical cunts, AMERICANS

  • Comment removed

  • What exactly is decromacy violettescarlett? Are you British or some other waco euro skank? Remove the nose/lip/ear bling, cover the tattos and get a job. Oops, I forgot, you're on wellfare already: you probably have not even contributed yet but you still get a monthly stipend. Drink up, moonbat. I wish we would have allowed Hitler his ambitions with you. But no, I still admire some Limeys, Scotts, and Irish. Whatever is left must be a fag like you.

  • What an absolute dick head you sound. Ive none of the things you mention, what ignorance to think I may have. Remember youre a nation that does not know whar democracy is, it exists in Europe, not in the USA, what democracy did black Americans recieve ?? and we are talking modern days, legal segration etc, You Yank wankers have very short memories, are totally ignorant and need Nuking. Ha ha. I hate you all

  • 1. You're a music hater. Already figured that out.

    2. Democracy is not what this country was. It is now, b/c we've adopted your idiotic principles, but we started as a republic...something different than "mob" rule. Unfortunately, however, we are democratic thanks to our horrible education system.

    3. You're entitled to your opinion, as idiotic as it is. While I don't enjoy this version as much as Martha's, still doesn't take away from the fact that karen had a good voice and was talented.

  • Hello , sorry to upset, youre right without doubt , talking of music, Karen had a lovely voice, poiltics should not be really used on youtube, so you have a nice day, One of my favourite songs, was and still is , Gladys Knight , Midnight train to Georgia, a classic, so lets be friends.

  • Wow you need to visit sites that support your hate...we are here to just enjoy the music...why so angry? No one here needs that shit...we are here to listen to music.

Maybe you should visit city data forum and go to the politics section and rant on all you want...this really is not the forum for hate...come on now!

  • What a ludicrous and irresponsible comment coming from a hateful and laughable airhead like yourself. Please don't pollute my inbox with any more of your bogus and trouble-making ramblings.

  • vltsclt,

You, yourself, qualify as one of the ignorant and hateful ones. Welcome to their exclusive club you boneheaded moron.

  • Very nice song I don't think my father ever played this one but I like it. Thanks for posting

  • Such a shame that this was never released.. Karen is one of the greatest female singers, and these unreleased songs should see the daylight!

C'moon even for the fans sake!

  • fuck you

  • she died because of an eating disorder and thats exactly what she should have focused on eather way another great artist gone

  • Karen bellisima y una baterista esepcional

  • i got anorexia

  • This is better than the Motown original !!!!

  • I doubt that very seriously. It's nice though.

  • Can't believe you keep finding unreleased songs. I agree that Karen's strength was her deep voice which set her apart from almost every other female singer. But her mid and upper were also wonderful. Even if it's not as great as The Carpenter's originals, Richard really should just give it a try and remix the best of her unreleased songs if only for the fans and to honor his sister's effort.

  • You make an interesting point about her voice. I was taken by Richard's comments regarding K's solo album (which he didn't like). He said she was her best when she sang from her throat (he actually holds his hand to his neck) as opposed to singing from her lungs'

I'm certainly no expert, but I adore her voice no matter where she brought it from!

  • such a shame...she gave people much happiness.

  • i love this song.... just sang it tonight at karaoke.... Miss Carpenter had an awesome gift that will surely be missed.... but to soothe some of the paining souls, there is the music.

  • karen was a great drummer.

  • Glad to hear that this is an unfinished version because it's not up to standard at all. Her voice sounds tired as well

  • I think I read that some of her vocals on these unfinished tracks work just work leads. Not meant to be listened to as a final song. I think remixing with instruments at proper levels and either horns or guitar added would really make a huge difference.

  • wow this is good, never have hear this one

  • She's probably one of the three or four greatest pop singers of all time, but her voice in this higher register is not the great Karen Carpenter alto - in spots, she actually seems to strain slightly, whereas on her classics, her hallmark is deep emotion with perfect vocal control. My favorite from this album was "My Body Keeps Changing My Mind" - too many of the others were in too high a key to highlight her amazing voice.

  • Yes...as Richard himself said, "The basement vocal was were the money was at". I'm sure he didn't mean that literally, but her alto was fantastic, and the trademark. I agree, that was probably the biggest drawback to her solo LP (other than the songs in general being weak).

  • Also, on many song Karen did a number of different ranges. I think it also had to do with the multitracking that Richard was doing. For instance the song "Hurting Each Other", Karen's range is all over the map and she sounds great! However, much of the higher register is multitracked vocals.

  • I Love this woman with every fiber of my being, When I was 6 I told my mother I was going to marry her.

  • Can someone tell my the record label this cover was released on? I really dig it & would like to own a 7" vinyl copy! That is if there ever was one! Anyone?

  • This was never relased, Karen only recorded it for her solo album, but didn't put it on it. I can send you the mp3.

  • the reason their covers work so well is because the carpenters are real.

oh yeah; their God given talent doesn't hurt, either

  • I find this a jaunty and attractive track - with the Tamla Motown feel nicely injected. It is certainly classier than your village karaoke. There is soul there all right. I really can't see the objection to this - and in fact it makes a nice contrast with Karen's other material. Martha and the Vandellas are great with the original, but no harm in a friendly cover like this one.

  • Overall the Carpenters covers are as good, if not better than the originals. It is unfair to compare this particular song because it is rough and far from finished. Maybe Richard Carpenter could work his magic to complete it.

  • love KC's version as well..

  • Wow, I love this version by Karen way better than the original one done by Martha and the Vandellas. I think it must be because Karen is a way better singer and Karen's voice sounds so fresh. Thanks for posting this song.

  • she is alveise smaling when she drum:)

  • this is only pictoures.bad:(

  • Any material produced by the Carpenters is allright to me, despite the somewhat rough edges surrounding this song, singing and playing the drums isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. This still doesn't detract that she was one of the best mulit-talented artists of all time.

  • Out of all of the unreleased solo stuff, this is by far my least favorite, and I do think that Karen would be horrified to know that it's being heard. I'm so glad it was not included on the final project because a remake of an oldie would have been just waaaaayyyyyy too close to The Carpenters original sound, finalized or not. Earcandy2008 you're right - it wasn't intended to be released.

  • I actually agree. I don't think this is 'terrible', but I highly doubt that Karen thought it would be released - which, it really wasn't in a way, but it is being heard and people open their mouths like this automatically negates anything else she ever sang. It's ridiculous. Of course the original was better; isn't that the case 98% of the time, anyways?

  • I agree with you, it wasn't intended to be heard and it's pretty bad. However, being a true fan I find it awesome that there is one more song that she sang (good or bad) that I was able to enjoy and I did enjoy it ... once.

  • If you don't like them, GO AWAY AND DON'T WATCH AND COMMENT ON THE VIDEOS. IT ONLY ANGERS FANS.

  • i do like them.quote WHEN I WAS A CHILD...how could you misunderstand that.?

  • I MEAN IT TO kookietur .

    I LOVE CARPENTERS

  • AND I DONT MEAN IT TO KAREN.

    I LOVE KAREN !

I JUST TRYING TO SAY THESE WODS TO kookietur.

  • IM KC

  • Please stop saying that..not trying to be rude, but you look a LOT like KC but please stop spamming I'm KC all over.

  • i love yah karen im a huge of yours...u r d no. 1 reason y i played drums..ur my inspiration..if only ur alive

  • Im kc

  • It annoys me the way brain-dead people argue about such trivial shit. Haven't you got anything better to do? Go and check on the old lady across the road, see if she needs any shopping doing. Either that or go and give your husband a blow job.

  • I'm a big Karen fan but this effort is on a par with the local karaoke.

  • I don't think Karen ever intended on this work lead to be released. Just my guess.

  • One person's opinion (as all these postings are) but I basically like this track. With more post production, i.e. vocal overdubs & instrumentals, as done on Please Mr. Postman and the oldies medley from the "Now & Then" album, this could've been(and can STILL BE) a GREAT track.

  • super song , tnx for posting man

  • Karen's voice in this high register is nothing special. Her voice in the lower registers is phenomenal. Richard knew this too.
