This is one of the best songs ever. These lyrics-in the 20s, sang by a woman, an African-American woman, just incredible for the times. Jazz was the original devil's music, long before any so-called "death metal." What made jazz so irresistible is that hip-shakin'. ;)
And parents are going after rap. Rap now is like Jazz was in the 1920s. People said it wasn't music, it promoted violence and drug use, the stuff people say about rap now.
Rap lacks the substance jazz had and advocates ignorance, misogyny, and crime.
Not that it has that effect or deserves to be banned, but ripping off a beat and slapping simplistic thug lyrics over it doesn't hold the same artistic merit no matter what every 14 year old or young urban gentleman thinks.
Granted, some rap is like that, but not all rap, just the mainstream stuff that I think is like a minstrel show, purporting a black stereotype. I don't listen to that stuff. There's stuff like Busdriver, the East Coast Avengers, Aesop Rock, and more that I listened to on Pandora but didn't get the name of.
damn i wanna use this for a movie

@BurningThreeLobedEye And I'll be yours! Thelma and Louise all over again, baby. Only less heartwarming and more pointlessly violent.

@Ozarkeree Pointless violence? Sounds heartwarming to me.

@BurningThreeLobedEye You were thinking of using the flamethrower, too?

@Ozarkeree Great minds really DO think alike!
Though I had also considered some lovely usage of, saw, chainsaws.

You raise a very good point. The genre is much broader than I gave it credit for.

Wow. A calm, well-written discussion in which one party learned something... on YouTube. You two deserve some sort of prize.
