Vietnam has stationed troops there for many years. As the Chinese navy became stronger, they decided it was time to attack Vietnam and took these islands to extend their coastline and economic zones. Why don't you raise your voice for Vietnam. China can only bully Vietnam, not the USA.

China and Vietnam share almost the whole South China Sea if you go 200 miles, but Chinese Navy always harrasses and kills innocent Viet fishermen. On 01/19/1974 China attacked South Vietnamese troops stationed on Paracel Islands in the South China Sea and took over the Islands from Vietnam.
