  • Thank you so much for doin this... grateful :)

  • The last the the democracy of Athens needed at the time was an underminer. They were just recovering from the very war that Socrates had fought in and the status quo was very tenuous.

  • @NearVSMello yes, KILL SOCRATES!

  • Well spoken, man.

  • Did you translate this from the Greek or are you reading someone else's translation?

  • Thank you for making up this video. Currently I need to write a paper on the Apology for my Philosophy 102 class, so this, so far is helping me with the accompanying notes to help better understand what is taking place and being said.

  • RY: Here's one sentence I don't get-"And they are many, and their charges against me are of ancient date, and they were made by them in the days when you were more impressible than you are now-in childhood, or it may have been in youth- and the cause when hear went by default, for there was none to answer."

  • The accusers who have been accusing Socrates (of speculationg about the heaven etc.) are numerous, they have been accusing him for a long time already (they are of "ancient date"), they made the charges when the people of Athens were easy to convince/dependent on the views of their parents (i.e. when they were children/youths)... and the cause (meaning the argument in court) has no real opponent... the accuser is not there (Socrates fights with a shadow opponent)...

  • excellent: Can you post the link where you are reading this: as there are many other versions out there with sligtly different wording- nontheless the ideas remain the same but at the same time it is nice to follow your voice word for word.

  • i think it was there --> see box

but isn't there only one jowett translation version around?

  • oh thanks!

  • sorry :(

  • never mind, that's okay.

  • i dont know why but i really want to punch you

  • I have a hard time reading when I'm stressed because the words won't stay in my mind - it's as if I'm drinking water for nutrients - but I need to read this for class and am unable to concentrate. Thank you for posting this! Hearing someone speak it makes it easier for me to read along and comprehend the material.

    Very helpful!

  • cool...i had to read it but now i have to hear it! yeaaaaaaaaa... lol

    thanks man.

  • Awesome man thanx so much

  • After talking this text to death in Honors World Lit., it's nice to hear it. It's helping me study for midterms.

  • This makes me happy.

  • Thanks so much, I was gonna read it for my Political Philosophy course, but you made it possible for me to just hear it while doing my nails.

Killed 2 birds with one stone.

  • you're welcome; they make you read that one in a *political* philosophy class? I don't know into which branch of philosophy that one really belongs, but political philosophy, what's in there about that apart from support of democracy and hatred of dictatorship of the thirty (from Socrates, after all, not too keen on democracy in the Republic...)...? And the statement that an honest, just person can't do politics?

  • LMAO!!

  • If this was the most viewed vid on you tube and not some weirdo dancing to different tracks the average human iq would be twice as high!!!!

  • yes, i am a fan of Fred's, however, hope he doesn't become too commercial...

  • You read it well man. I dont know if thats your normal voice, it it is good for Socrates. I have read it many times, but never had it read to me, its quite an experience I thought I wouldnt be able to follow it. Good Work, Ashame this isn't the most viewed video on YouTube
