I totally agree with you. Those of you wanting to learn Cantonese should watch TVB dramas for sure! Their pronunciations are exactly how people in HK communicate. It really helps =)
When you say "miss," the "siu" sounds a bit too high, slightly sharp. (The tonal difference between "siu" and "jeh" should be smaller.) When you ask "Is Hong Kong a beautiful place?" the "lang" should be a bit lower... The "lang" you said in "Hong Kong is quite a beautiful place" is pitch perfect though! When you say "Hong Kong," you pronounce Hong very Americanized. It's sounds more like "heung gong," These are all nit-picking points, I should add. Cantonese is hard! You are doing very well!

i'd say it's a pretty good bet mandarin is easier. It's a lingua franca among Chinese people, and it's pretty much the "english of asia".
it has less tones, less weird particles and the pronunciation isn't that hard.
