  • Great history lesson on these fish as well. Do you know where to get more information on the history of goldfish and tropical fish? It is amazing how long they have been bred like this. that fish at 30 seconds is perfect....but they are all sweet.

  • They are amazing fish with such a unique color. You have to love the red on white of ryukins

  • SEXY! hope my ryukin gets that big!

  • @ youngwarrior17:

Could you please tell me the title of the song that you used for this video? It's really beautiful...

  • it's from one of the soundtracks of Jay Chou's movie 'Secret"

  • why do people say this fish is common (i read it in a goldfish book)

when i can't even find any in pets at home

  • i got mine in pets at home, although i wouldnt recommend them for fish themselves, my poor fish had a bad balance condition form the day i got them, in a way i feel i rescued them one survived and is doing well now, the other unfortunatly died because of this inbreeding they do. if you can try find a speciallist that will have looked after them properly.

  • Beautiful genetically modified fish you got there, very nice pieces of art :)

  • These fish are FAT! Beautiful though....

  • whoa

  • they look like a puffed out chicken

  • wow mine aint got dat big yet

  • btw beatuifull ryukins i have 3 myself in a 100 gallon

  • shut up you know nothing about the pure art that they are and the many generations of selective breeding that has happened to create buty its like saying da vinci is sick because he painted the mona lisa which is a hermaphrodite!!!

  • What is wrong with you guys? Don't get me wrong- the video quality and song are beautiful, but breeding and showing off such deformed fish is wrong. Goldfish are naturally derived from Chinese grass carp, and have long, slender, streamlined bodies. These monstrosities are internally dysfunctional, and have crippled skeletons. Breeding fancy goldfish is as bad as tatooing and color-dying fish. It should be banned!

  • How could you say it's internally dysfunctional when it's not, they eat and live fine, fuctioning just fine. Many living things are changed over times, physical looks are change. One living things arise from another. A deformation is what caused evolution. As long as the fish is not in any pain

  • Actually, talk to any ichthiologist, and they'll tell you that inbreeding and finding selective traits like short, round bodies and bent spines have made the animal's internal organs compressed. Many of these goldfish die of swim bladder and digestive system failures because of compression issues. The long fins and other "enhancements" such as the wen/hood on ornandas makes them more susseptable to bacterial infections, as well. It's better to just get normal-bodied comet goldfish.

  • Furthermore, Squill, these fish are bred and live in captivity, where those long sleek bodies are not needed to escape natural predators. You can still go and get all the comets your heart would desire at any fish store; there's no danger at all of the original carp ever dying out. Without selective breeding, the world would be a dull place. Selective breeding is in everything, including the human race!

  • I'm just trying to make the point that the features bred into these fish make them a bit less healthy than what is optimal, and they often look really deformed (to me). Just look at bubble-eye or pearlscale goldfish. Anyone in their right mind would say that they are just bred to show off a deformity that some people find "cute." It has nothing to do with carp or comet goldfish, except they are often healthier and live longer lives because their bone and organ structures function properly.

  • If you ask many pro goldfish keeper, their fancy goldfish had lived very long, many fancy goldfish live even longer than most coment, these fish are like italian said, live in captivity and was being taken great care of. Many NORMAL goldfish die earlier due to misinform fish keeper and feeder goldfish being sell very cheap, that to me is more depressing

  • Given the proper environment, nutrition and water chemistry attention, comet goldfish grow over tice the size and easily live three times longer than super-bred fancy goldfishes. The issue I'm trying to address actually isn't how long one lives in comparrisson to the other, it's how strange and creepy most of the pet industry really is, especially when creating deformed creatures like fancy goldfish.

  • Ah. I've read many of your comments (with some distaste, I must admit), thinking that if this person was against fancy goldfish because of their 'deformities' they must also be against the breeding of pugs, bassets and arabian horses as they too are bred from abnormalities in a species. But as you said 'pet industry' I assume you mean the breeding of all species bred by man?

  • Soooo, since chihuahuas, maltese, and beagles, etc. look nothing like a wolf they originated from you think breeding them should be banned, huh? Duh.

  • I never said anything about dogs. But, while on the subject, I happen to find a lot of overly domesticated dogs a bit creepy when you compare their looks and behaviors to their wild cousins. Sorry. Just, really domesticated things and behaviors are really weird to me. But I never said anything about banning dog breeding.

  • Dog breeding, fish breeding, any kind of selective breeding will set certain polygenes and eventually will breed true--which creates a new "breed" within that species. Wild animals are also in a way selectively bred; the most streamlined, hardiest, etc. traits will survive and be perpetuated. But wild vs captivity really isn't the topic, is it? These are aquarium fish.

  • Okay.... thanks for the lecture. Your point?

  • I think her point was that goldfish are well suited to their environment (tanks, where aestetices are an advantage leading to furthering that genetic line). Dogs are not like wolves because they live in a completly different environment, among humans. Thus, friendly submissive behaviour and other domesticated behaviours are a benifit. It's not fair to compare carp to goldfish or dogs to wolves since they survive in completly different situations.

  • I love giant ryukins with long tails they look like the queens of the aquarium :0) BEAUTIFUL.

  • en verdad los goldlfish son las mejores mascotas q eh tenido, aparte de ser muy hermosos son una gran fuente de relajacion =)

  • Very Beautiful!

  • This is the most amazing video I have ever seen. I'm totally not joking. I'm hypnotized by the fancy goldfish.
