  • Yes Carlos did play with Justin Bieber,,, I dont like Justin Bieber butI enjoyed his rendition with Carlos. Lets get real Carlos Santana is Awsome,,, He has had an Incredible musical Journey,,, who Am I to Judge. He like Jerry has a unique sound and I am appreciative of the entire body of work.

  • Thank you for this a supper hot show , I was at this show and i thought one day someone would put this on U-Tube.... Anymore of this show JABFEAL... Thanks for a real good show ....

  • This was an awesome showl in Petaluma. It was a very intimate night as I recall with no more than a few hundred people and the band rocked with Bobby Vega, Baba Olatunji, Jerry & Mickey and Carlos

  • Now Carlos Santana plays with Justin Bieber :(

  • look at how much fun they are having

  • this gives me cold chills, such a powerful version, So much talent and energy on one stage. Brilliant, magical, and most of all Good ole Jerry is diggin it.

  • Magic

  • Ahh what a juicy tune, love jammin to this.

  • One of ther BEST Jerry Song I've ever heard...in my life

    Dave L

  • 2 zen masters with lots of heart and tone, with an amazing rhythm section.

  • Jerome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • woweeeee this is music~~rock on baba jerry!!!

  • Greatness Period

  • "the more that you give the more it will take; there's a thin line beyond which you really can't fake"

  • Beyond the point of total sickness. Amazing. Gives a dead head the chills!

  • I was at this show, in Petaluma Vets hall. Tiny little place and a hundred degrees inside! Hot show in so many ways, I got to meet Jerry, Carlos, Baba Oluntunji, and all the players at a meet and greet afterwards. Wow!

  • @edervjo Can I be you?

  • Carlos getting a lesson from his master

  • Too many people listening to music with just their heads and not their whole being... Yeah yeah, typical hippy talk right?

    *hippy facepalm*

    *goes back to dancing*

  • I'm not a Deadhead, I'm sure there have been better versions live, lost in the past, of this song. But I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better version of this song anywhere else right now..Jerry Garcia really brought everything on this performance. Like he wanted to go toe to toe with Carlos Santana. An Amazing job

  • This is the bomb. Jerry, Carlos, Bobby on bass. Oh, come on. This is so bad.

  • This is the bomb. Jerry, Carlos, Bobby on bass. Oh, come on. This is so bad.

  • I feel happy and sad at the same time when I hear Jerry play..We all miss you

  • Sounds like the backing band is playing b minor what the fuck! i think jerry was kind of thinking the same thing

  • he said, "well, i'm talking bout a fire"!

  • Happy Birthday, Jerry!

  • is there a video production of this available anywhere?

  • 10 jackwagons are brain dead, deaf, dumb, and need to go back home, momma is calling.....

  • WORLD UNITY; courtesy of Jerry, Mickey, & Carlos!!!

  • 9 people didn't like this! They must have been searching for Jerry Lewis

  • Beautiful.

  • man santana killed it I wish he'd played another solo right after jerry's 2nd... jer lit it up and it would have been perfect if santana just ripped one loose right after

  • all the cool percussion in this version makes me feel like i'm in a jungle actually seeing the fire on the mountain

  • the man can speak with guitar : {D

  • I think they need more people up on stage.

  • Pretty fkin cool, they should have let Jerry set the pace though, the bassist rushed it a bit.

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful video. I really love the late 80's, Jerry looks so badass laying it down. If the rest of the music was like this at that show, I would guess that many a mind was blown that night.

  • love the latin fee - you gotta miss this kind of music ... sigh...

  • nice

  • all i can add to the very long list of fans of jg.is that every time i hear his work ,either w/dead or some other incarnation......the man was and is right there in the top two both lyrically or "shredding"musically with john lennon

  • @kurt10063 sorry kurt but jerry was not the lyricist. robert hunter wrote the lyrics for most of jerry's songs. and yes, lennon was a phenomenal lyricist, but not much of an instrumentalist. while i appreciate your enthusiasm, but IMHO comparing jerry and lennon isn't accurate.

  • @jzip71 correct

  • Wicked!

  • This is almost too good to be true.So many good musicians on one stage... ahh. Look how happy jerry is :]

  • CARLOS!

  • haha i dont even understand how you could possibly dislike this

  • @ThePhantomRailroads Santana is not only respected but REVERED by his counterparts, and has been a MAJOR influence on many GREAT guitarists. Maybe u dont like him, and thats cool, but ur statement is just GARBAGE. Nice try at trying to sound like a cool cat, but sorry major FAIL! Get a mind of your own, people like u make the scene and music in general suck. Lol @ u dude, u got the whole profile set up to show how hardcore you are, what a sad existence you must have. THINK FOR YOURSELF!

  • That's actually Robert Garcia, Jerry's cousin on his mother's side. I was their newspaper boy. They used to tip me with bags of weed.

  • !!!

  • gcircles, this entire show is out there as a DVD on bit torrent sites...just gotta poke around.

  • Should be part of the UNESCO Protection of mankind's cultural heritage program. Not less!

  • Hmm- We had a video feed to the sound man and to the projector guy- one of them made a copy without permission- but hey its been 24 years- I'm glad it is out there.

  • @ThePhantomRailroads

John McLaughlin has tons of respect for Carlos but what does he know, he's only an original fusion pioneer and fluent is virtually every style of music.

  • Typical Carlos bashing, yeah he's stale now but from 71-76 he was a monster. Basing your opinion just on what he's done the past 10 years or so is like basing your opinion on JG just listening to off nights where he was too fucked up. Don't you think Jerry would sound a little out of place on some Carlos arrangements? Both of them are legends and extremely talented with different approaches why make it a contest? Put down that Rolling Stone top 100 list and just listen.

  • @bilmon420 Thank you! So sick of these hipster know-it-all's!

  • @bilmon420 totally on point, brother

Carlos had two peaks early on, the first 3 albums, and then the jazzier Caravanserai album and that stuff

and if you ever think he could not shred, check out the live album Lotus, it is beyond sick, he is so badass on that thing it's nuts

  • @TheMrCompletely LOTUS is the shit!

  • I was the video engineer for this show- Recorded for KRCB TV- Heath Curdts was director- he had a huge fever that night. I am really surprised to find this online- I know that Mickey had a copy- no idea where the master went- It was on 1" and umatic with a digital audio separate recording that did not have timecode so it was hard to sync to the video.

  • @gcircles Hi - what's "umatic"? " It was on 1" and umatic with a digital audio"

Very cool that you worked on the show, I hope you had fun.

  • @kerrgal U-matic is a 3/4" analog video cassette format used in broadcast and professional video up til about 1990 when it was pretty much replaced by a professional betacam format that recorded component analog video on 1/2" cassettes.

  • I was video engineer for this show- It was recorded for KRCB-tv Rohnert Park-

Heath curdts was the director- He had a big fever that night- Bill Graham visited us in the control room- It is my last memory of Bill-

I am really surprised to find this posted- I know that Mickey had a copy but have no idea what happend to the other- recorded on 1" an umatic. There was a digital audio recording also but no timecode to sync it later to the video.

  • HOT stuff....I'm having flashbacks...

  • are there more videos from this show?

  • 7 Dislikes?????? Don't get it!!!!!

  • @mcdstuff Jerry's guitar is closer to an Alembic than Carlos'. Irwin got his start building guitars at Alembic. Carlos is playing his signature PRS. With everything that is going on in this jam, what I find most interesting is what ISN'T there - Bobby! I actually miss his parts in this song, though the mutual respect Jerry & Carlos have for each other is nice to see. Great jam!

  • Still unreal two years later from my last comment. This is the kind of stuff that stands the test of time. Amazing. Thanks for sharing! 10/10

  • @mcdstuff Tiger is just a few miles from my house at Colts owner Jim Irsys house. I hear he plays it with friends weekly.

  • @GSRJosh33

I understand thats the situation. And it's quite depressing, frankly.

  • 2 Alembic guitars blending away together,Carlos and Jerry>>>>

  • SWAAAEEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is sick!!! Very Good Version of Fire on the mountain!!!

  • Fuego! Fuego en la montana!

  • Thank you Jerry for showing us your love through your talent. You were an Angel. We will never forget you!

  • @aztreehugger - I'll certainly never forget him, the music and the magic. But angel? Uhmmm, probably not!!

  • Oh, man......this is so damn great.

  • dead to the core

  • This was from February 15, 1987 at the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Auditorium, benefit for World Music in Schools.

I attended the show and it was absolutely great, and one of the tiniest auditoriums in which I saw a show. A great memory. It was broadcast on public television and a DVD is out there in trading circles.

  • Jerry Garcia, we love you!

  • does any one know what kind of pickups the lead guitar is using? presumably the single coil? i love that squishy sound.

  • @jaymayisback3

YES! I think squishy sound describes it well and that is my favourite Jerry jamming too!

  • how many players on stage? 13? 14? 15? more? saweeeet!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know where this venue was

  • good version of "fire" for sure

  • this song gives me the chills everytime. this version is possibly the best one arround. Santana and all of the other guest make it magic

  • VERY nice..!

  • Funky koola!

  • Jerry is tooooooo awesome, perfect performance from him and friends! bigB

  • Jerry doing a bit dancing!! Love it.

  • Woot! Woot!

  • LOL! Had to wait til 9:10 to get a glimpse of Bobby Vega.

  • haha. there's a drum jam going on, but the guitarist are lost. they think the song is over...

  • I happen to think that this is one of the best videos of Jerry I've ever seen, and to be playing with Carlos Santana.... well, it doesn't get any better than this. Look at their sincere levels of enthusiasm and the joy they are experiencing playing together.

What a pleasure this is to watch and listen too

Thank you Jerry for being so good to us

  • @Dlrealife

I agree this is off the charts. The djembe section just blows the song away. Not to mention Carlos genuflecting on Jerry. This is truly Jerry at his finest. Peace .

  • @Dlrealife Totally :D..all of the above

  • @Dlrealife Well said! I couldnt have said in better :D

  • this is great no need to say more

  • Tears!!! Where in gods name is the rest of this show????? Jerry's laying it down, plus you've got Baba....Sheer insanity....Love the dinosaur femur baba's playing with

  • Jerry we love you. Your sound is a beautiful inspiration to the world.

    Peace. X

  • love this ~so nice~thankyou

  • thankyou~my kids used to love this one back in the day~i can see them now dancing and singing~they knew all the words~God Bless the people~peace

  • I can definitely see the Mickey Hart influence. The fast paced Fire and the entire orchestra of percussion... Great version. Thanks for the upload.

  • one and only..

  • Why did those cat's not give jerry one of those way kool hats.I am sure he would have dug it. I wonder how i might get one of them for myself?

  • The hats that those people are wearing are the coolest of all hat's. To see jerry smiling was something you never saw the last 5 years of the dead's existence, and to see carlos playing with 1 of his old friends also adds to the energy coming off the stage.

  • Carlos is the man.

  • Love it .

  • I love the bass with all the drums. LOVE IT!

  • sorry ..back here again ..this is just sooooooo gooooooooood*****

  • I had the good fortune to see the Dead in person. I think I saw them twice. Or maybe three times. Or it might have been twenty-seven . . .

  • This is the first time I've heard of Jerry Garcia, this song is insanely great and the collab with Carlos Santana makes it that much better

  • @NessVlogMusic Hey now, Ness. Happy you enjoyed Jerry and friends. You've just tapped into the world of The Grateful Dead! It's a gold mine... enjoy your explorations!

  • @WeirFaithful gold mine ...yup ..sure is ....i'm digging the dig in the mine.

  • @unviciouscircle it's the gold dust.... comes in through your pores... then you feel good ;-)

  • the one and only jerry garcia, thxs for the ride jerry love u sooooooo much ,ur still in us .i can feel it ...someone feel the same ???

  • One of the best Dead Songs

  • @ProdigalSin

This was actually a benifit for music in schools done At the Petaluma Vets building in 1988- I was the video engineer.

  • @gcircles The date was February 15, 1987 actually...I still have the ticket stub.

  • @berkeleybike BASTARD!!!! ;>)

  • I usually don't comment on stuff I wasn't actaully at but if I'm not mistaken this was a benefit for Willie Mays' education fund for the San Francisco school district (if not they did that sometime)? Has anybody seen the video of (I haven't looked for it yet but it exists) Garcia (in blue) doing Fire and other stuff at the L.A. Ambassador Hotel, with Santana, Armando Peraza, Rubin Blades, Tito Puente (not sure about him?), Linda Ronstadt & others in ~'89 or '90?

    Augy

    San Diego

  • @yguaray something like this youtube.com/watch?v=ZWfYew3s_Nw

  • this is sooooooooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

  • Dedicated to Boulder - Canyon, Hugh fire today. Had a HUGH smoke cloud above our house all day. As of 4pm - 3000 acres. What a mess.

  • is it just me or is someone's playing the wrong chords? It sounds like someone's playing minor chords and It really clashes with the melody

  • @lazertadpole Nope, all I hear is Bmaj to Amaj.

  • is it just me or is someone's playing the wrong chords? It sounds like someone's playing minor chords and It really clashes with the melody

  • NICE ONE!!!

  • Nice to see Jerry so into the music....too bad I can't even imagine how much blow it took to get him there.

  • santana looks like hes feelin it so much in that solo... and Jerry looks like he was lovin the way his second solo felt.

  • What a train wreck....Carlos open your ears....B major dude!..Jerry defaulted to the minor approach...

  • @bobbysbackingtracks This is actually technically in E, or B Mixolydian if you wish. I feel like both of the killed it. Especially Jerry with that jazzy, bouncy chromatic style.

  • @elcapitan311 Thank you you are right. Yes .Still a train wreck

  • @bobbysbackingtracks Killed it in the best way. I enjoyed it a lot. To each his own. I actually find this video quite inspirational.

  • @elcapitan311 Thank you you are right. Yes .Still a train wreck.

  • @elcapitan311 Thank you you are right. Yes .Still a train wreck.Killed it in a good way?

  • 1:59-2:42... word

  • I have seen a lot of Dead shows and I have never Seen Jerry Dance so much as he did during this song. He must have been feeling REALLY GOOD or happy about getting to play with one/some of his friends. Miss him so much. He left a lot behind ,took even more with him.

  • @rastony1 You should see him in 4/12/78 bertha. the video is on here i believe

  • ugh. santana. hang up your guitar. Jerry is the one and only.

  • @MrGrevy i think sanata solo sounds good, he did a good job playing dead here

  • @skatehard93125 I dunno. Santana seems a bit off his game imo.

  • why did he use lyrics from all the verses in the first verse

  • @darthBJ1 lol why do you think he was old

  • I know like this I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You aint shit until there are sixteen people standing behind you on the mother lovin' stage!

  • @DirtRoadWarrior man youre right but at the same time thats not what the whole experience was about, as long as you understand that..

  • Bobby Vega on bass! Jerry on guitar! Mickie too! This is good!

  • i went to this show and it rocked. my memory isnt what it used to be but I'm pretty sure this was a benefit for schools

  • A little Carlos as well. Two of my favs..

  • so much coke

  • Cold chills. Such a good man

  • the Tiger roars...

  • Is the 2nd guitar carlos santana

  • @joseph or any other guitarist

    >>>soling b to a>>

It looks like Jerry is going up to the 4th fret real quick after the A and grabbing something, any idea what chord that is? Or what he's doing there?

  • @lien0569 might be able to tell if you you tell me time you see it

  • 7 dislikes?!?!! yall shall burn in hell for going against Jerry Garcia, he is the man!

  • if'n this don't get you movin you must be dead...
