  • Just watched this yesterday. It was quite beautiful and a wonderful experience. The almost 4 hours went by without effort. Thanks for posting this. =)

  • Wonderful voices and interpretation! Thank you for sharing!

  • I don't think I've ever heard such a marvelous, beautiful blending of voices in a duet.

  • @davehshs hehe...I would not call their singing a beautiful blending of voices, if you want to here that, listen to Kermes/Mijanovic/Curtis here: /watch?v=Qu8LSBv5l1w

however that as an aside....This version is The most Honest, Emotional Moving and REAL Performances of this piece that I have seen or heard, so Thanks CubbyNH for posting this...

  • Daniels is the best American countertenor since the great Derek Lee Ragin.

  • By the way, David's mother's name is Phyllis, not Barbara I was a student of his father.

  • it's beutiful... they are great...BOTH!

  • Watched this after having seen Daniels sing Ombra Mai Fu, beautifully, then Fleming making a right mess of the same aria. Renee redeemed herself in this. It was gorgeous

  • Wow, how beautiful the voices are together. Goosebumps... Wish I'd seen this production.

  • What a tremendous duo! Both artists are stellar, and have such a wonderful blend. Daniels sounds like Counter-Tenor version of Fleming, who in turns sounds like a soprano version of Daniels! Wonderful!

  • Thanks for sharing! They are wonderfully blended.

Has this been recorded on a commercially available DVD?

I went to see it in Dec.2004 at the Met, but it seems I can't find a DVD recording anywhere.

  • @frunner1234 It's supposed to return in Nov 2011 = HD so it will probably go on DVD around summer 2012.

  • It's funny how those sustained harmonies and the intervals sound so Monteverdian! But it's Handel! Their voices just blend so beautifully, it's uncanny!

  • this is so beautifully sung that it is a Miracle.

  • ça sent le 440 des familles! pour moi c'est trop fort...et trop vibré (elle) ...dommage , elle hurle!

  • This is yet another you tube clip featuring the fabulous David Daniels that I can't stop watching . I am in awe, why has it taken me till my 50's to discover such beauty. Thankyou CubbyNH and thankyou you tube and most especially, thankyou Mr and Mrs. Daniels for producing such an exceptional son . He has it all, the good looks, the charm and a wonderful talent.

  • @tavam55 David's parents were both singers. His late father Perry taught for many years at Converse College in SC, and was responsible for many good singers. David's mother Barbara was a beautiful soprano. He definitely comes from the right gene pool to be an incredible singer.

  • My first opera experience at the Met. What a ride! I have seen both many times since. David a nice guy in person and the grandest countertenor today.

  • Your disrespectful comment tells much more about you than about the artist you are insulting.

  • jealousy will get you nowhere.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Wish I could have been there, but thanks to your kindness I can witness it somehow.

  • one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written

  • fantastic. wish i could've been there.
