  • Just so incredibly beautiful. And thank you for including that standing O for Judith at the end in the video, a tribute so well deserved for this incredibly lovely and most beloved lady of song.

  • An all time great vocalist - across all genres.

  • Best female ballad voice ever. Not the best jazz voice, but in the top ten there as well.

  • Simply beautiful, you are amazing Judith.

  • Judith is just lovely.......... What a voice......Fantastic. I love her.

  • I remember listening and enjoying this song many years-ago and your voice is still so wonderful

  • This American loves this performance. Even after 45 years Judith sounds wonderful. I do wish the "boys" had been there too though.

  • Quality is permanent.

  • Hey, all Americans aren't complainers about Judith's singing in her sixties. In fact, I love what she and the Boys do so much that I came to your beautiful country in May to hear her and the Boys with Andre Rieu. I think she is still dynamite--and your country is a hospitable place to visit. Some folks just don't get it--she's a living legend, a true talent, and a delightful soul. Cheers!

  • this lass had one off the best voices in music in her day . this is not as good but she is older and it is still nice . but anyone wanting to hear as she was.find this song here on youtube from about 1968 in black and white her voice is spot on

  • An amazing singer from way back Kia Ora and be well

  • Her singing was great, for a lady of 65 to have such a perfect voice!!!. I loved that song then and now even better.

  • Crazy shit! Voice goes straight to the heart. Can anyone listen and not fall in love ?

  • We love you Judith.

  • I grew up with this liquid, lyrical voice in the late 60's and seventies. The music was pure, her song-stylings were pure, no gimmicks, no artifice---just inspirational to see. Love you Judith, loved you then & so very happy to have seen this! What a gift to the music world!

  • A truly wonderful human being with an incredible gift that she has shared with so many people around the world - Judith is Australia's darling and she is our music queen - there will never be another you Judith - thank you

  • No one can compare to the Judith of 1968, not even Judith herself, but she is still awesome, and I love hearing her sing, and watching her very feminine movements. I had a crush on her at 14, in 1968, and still love her today. I am from America, and will always love Judith

  • I don't need to check.

I just KNOW that lashbridges has got to be a bloody American.

Inane crap such as his or her posting only ever comes out of the good ol US of A, home of military expertise & economic prudence.

If they don't like it stick with Justin Beiber & Britney Spears, uuuugh!!!

  • @mikethefoto I just checked for you, and you're right.

  • @mikethefoto Hey,I understand uyour anger but please DONT paint us all with the same brush, as I happen to be American too.

  • Her voice is still beautiful after all these years!

  • I was only 5 when this song was recorded and when I was in primary school we sung this at a school concert and I have always loved this song and Judith has the most magical voice ever. I have always loved her voice and The Seekers were great too..

  • Brill!! What a talent.

  • Anyone who doesn't appreciate the sheer talent on view here let alone isn't moved by this inspired vocal melody urgently needs to see a doctor. A beautiful melody delivered by one of the greatest voices in the history of popular music. Sit back, appreciate and enjoy.

  • @clucas41601 fantastic voice, anyone who appreciates singing should know this

  • beautiful music

  • I think "lashbridges" is being far too picky and mean :( This is a really emotional performance and not many people can sing like this when they're 65-70 years old. She still sings really well.

  • Regardless of the nit picken of 'lashbridges' Judith Durham is a pleasure to hear. I have a hard time making up my mind between Judith and Sissel...........Love them both!

  • ok smartarse, juust how good were you 40 years ago, judith was and is great no analysing no comparing just listen and be so grateful, so go away doughhead and ferment some where else

  • The Joys of life are fleeting, but the joy that judith has given the world is anything but fleeting, and her music, her gift will endure forever, and Judith like millions of others I will love you til I die.

  • Lash...I don't thing you could be more wrong. Look at the musical examples of Sinatra and Bennett, whose voices have changed when they got older - but what they lost in the pure tone of youth they gained in depth and experience, which are far greater communications of a song than technical perfection. Such as it is with this version of 'Carnival.' While I love the seekers work from their 60's heyday, for me this version of the song is definitive, period. There is such a breadth of emotion in th

  • Lash...

  • @LashBridges I think you're being incredibly picky - but by your own admission there are approximately 180 notes which she hits spot on. Not bad for a woman of 65 with a chronic lung condition. Please feel free to name any popular singer who's enjoyed 45 years of vocal improvement. Be assured, a few technical limitations will never dull the public's love for this wonderful lady.

  • @LashBridges

    dont count

  • @LashBridges

    dont count

  • Comment removed

  • @LashBridges good grief a massive 15 notes off pitch - at 65 and with a lung condition she was (is) bloody fantastic, could you do as good as that? hmmm

  • @LashBridges Well I HAPPEN to think she's just as good as she always was and I ENJOYED listening to this again, so much so that I came back in time to see your comment. If YOU dont like it, that's fine, but dont presume you know anything about what I like or dont like and it doesnt have a damn thing to do with me being tone deaf.40years later, she can still sing better than a lot of those singers we hear today, and nothing will stop me from listening to her.

  • Just oustanding..... and how Gracious she is......

  • Magic, however the "Boys" are just missing! Unforgettable Judith Durham, her voice is still and just incredible.

  • Only four things could enhance this incredible performance: Keith, Bruce, Guy and a twelve string...

  • God, she's still wonderful.

  • Still a wonderfull voice. Makes me shiver everytime.....

  • Beautiful Song by a Beautiful Lady

  • @zoxela Couldn't have said it any better.

  • Gosh - Judith Durham, and Zenyatta, and Susan Boyle ... aren't we blessed, we get to enjoy the three of them via YouTube ... I just run out of words to describe them ...

  • This song always brought a tear or two to my eyes, and with Judith`s beautiful, quality voice and still so pretty, that I am feeling emotional as its just pure magic! wish I had been there.

Australia can be justly proud of this wonderful singer!

  • I am in total agreement Judith is the greatest female singer of all time, and she is a great person with love for this earth, and the people on it, she has made millions of people lives a little better, and Judith I will love you til I die

  • Truly, one of a kind.

  • long and far away song done here in a beautiful video

  • My goodness, she looks like she didnt gain any weight in all that time, she just got older and her VOICE....still pure MAGIC! Now if I could only get her to tour with Chicago and The Eagles..I'd pay anything for that ticket!

  • @bajangirl01 Well she will be performing as part of The Seekers with Andre Rieu in October, is that good enough? Also headline act at the Melbourne Lord Mayor's Concert.

  • @auspete any chance of her being in the USA,NY, MA?

  • @bajangirl01 Sadly I'm not the one who decides these things! You could always write to her via her website (see the end of the clip for the address as I don't seem to be allowed to type it here) - I can assure you her manager reads everything that is sent.

  • Fantastic singer and song, one of the best of all time

  • You lucky Aussies! We in the UK had the Seekers to ourselves for a while in the 60s, and I wish they'd come back here since they reformed in the early 90s.

I reckon I have a reasonable knowledge of popular music, and there are three women, among many great female vocalists, whose voices are crystal clear. They were Karen Carpenter, Eva Cassidy and Judith Durham. It is a wonder that Judith still has such a voice in her mid 60s.

  • @cbak12sg and Petula Clark

  • @davidashaw9 I respect what she achieved, but I don't share your views about her voice

  • Still absolutely fantastic..........pure talent........nuff said.

  • @Escal21- The voice of Judith Durham and the comment below made me cry. Thank you for moving me!

  • If this performance does not move you, check your pulse.

  • she still has it, Judith your voice till sounds like and angel, your talent gets better with age like a fine wine, and more important a great human who cares about people and our planet, and from San francisco we miss you and still love you, til I die.

  • If you believe in God, whatever name He may be given by your priests and your enemies, you know He endowed Man with poetry, physics, literature, mathematics, music, painting and all earthly arts and sciences to create beauty and reach truth and eternity in heaven.

And if you dont, you can still name God those talents of the gifted ones. And cry.

  • the Order of Australia is an order of chivalry established by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia on 14 February 1975 "for the purpose of according recognition to Australian citizens

  • A fleeting glimpse of God. We love you Judith

  • surly one of the best voices ver gave to a human being loe you judith

  • Did I read it correctly. It states that she was 65 when this was recorded. I mean WOW! she's got the voice of a 20 year old.

When I first heard this on youtube It felt familiar and my parents answered my question coz they used to play it to me as a baby to help me sleep.

  • still a great voice, i love it.

  • Unbelievable voice, one of the truly uniqye singers of not only Australia but the world.

  • A very special lady. Bless you all "down under".

  • Truly amazing too still be able to listen to this heavenly voice!

  • Echt geweldig om nog steeds naar deze prachtige stem te kunnen luisteren!

  • Oh wow, what can you say?

I really feel sorry for those young people who have grown up under the impression that squawking into a microphone and doing soft porn on stage and video equals "music".

Judith and The Seekers...have they ever been bettered?

  • Oh my, what can you say?

I feel so sorry for those young people who have grown up under the impression that squawking into a microphone and doing soft porn on stage and on video with a deafening beat is actually "Music" .

Judith and The Seekers are quality...have they actually ever been bettered?

  • Judith we love you in the other colony, America, please grace us with a visit, when they speak of class they speak of you.

  • how wonderfull I am crying my eyes out but have to replay.

  • God Bless you Judith !

    Awesome then and now.

We are all richer for your presence.

  • aha!.........I like your comment Ricky. Judith is one of a kind.......there will never be another. And yeah, I'm gay too. Who woulda guessed it........aha! Greetings from London to all "down under".

  • OMG!!! Brilliant!!! Cannot believe she was 65 when she did this!!! Still Beautifull,Fabulous and Wholesome. I will love you till i die and i'm Gay!!! She will always Rock!!!

  • Brilliant

  • Her voice is still beautiful

  • Me 2

  • Judith...I will love you till I die.

  • Just found this after a Rockwiz search... Amazing Vocal Cheers Pete ;)

  • She good but others are good too.

    I like it.

Tell me, why did she never wear a short skirt?

  • Grow a brain mate........

  • Last time I looked in my ear there was some grey matter there. Wtf are you on about?

  • she was a hippyand hippys wore long skirts

  • @sukes58 : But I was a hippy and I never wore long skirts. Well, not often anyway.

  • Magical !!!!!

  • As I suspect many of the others out there, I miss the Seekers, and above all, the moving voice of Judith Durham. I will always remember her.

  • Best female vocalist ever!

  • Is there a better artist for vocal longevity and purity of tone and the great talent to communicate?

  • The timbre and the colour of her voice.... marvellous!

There's no artist i know which can sing like her.

There's so much sense in her voice, it gives me the chills every time i listen to the song.

  • Aged 65/66 and still an amazing singer. Very poignant and so moving.

  • More than any sporting moment or crowning achievement this nation has produced ...this gracious, talented woman (and The Seekers) make me so very proud to be Australian. I have had the privilege and joy of seeing the fabulous Seekers in concert in both the 60's and the 90's. Thank you Pete for sharing this supreme moment of musical history. best wishes,Kel.

  • Thank you Pete, I missed this when it was broadcast. Thanks to SBS Rockwiz too.

THIS probably will be the last public performance of Carnival. It was rich and beautiful and very moving, and I would like to acknowledge all of the Seekers for the joy they have brought me since 1963 when l was a tot.

    Miss you Jude x

  • It evokes in me all the feelings when you say goodbye to someone and you just know you will never see them again.

  • Sublime. Strips away the years and one of my clips of the year.

  • Is there anyone in the world with a sense for music and heart who does not love Judith Durham? What a voice. I feel lucky to have shared the planet with this glorious talent.

  • een geweldige stem van een prachtvrouw

  • This 44 yr old guy has goosebumps and tears in his eyes!!....'nuff said...brilliant!!!

  • possibly the best female pop vocalist of the 20th century. Beautiful!

  • @planetmoonscape ahhh....not possibly the best...easily the best in mho.....not another like her....

  • @planetmoonscape Without doubt - she's definitely the best. No other female voice comes close. Would have been great to hear her with Pete Seeger, but will never happen. There are very few so passionate about their songs as these two.

  • @planetmoonscape Possibly?

  • PURE PLATINUM! The VOICE OF AN ANGEL! After 44 Years This Song Sounds No Different, I Was Blessed With A Meeting With Judith In 2003 When She Played The UK And To This Day A Treasured Memory, GOD BLESS! Judith

  • Aged 65 !! Still a wonderful singer, fantastic.

  • erstaunlich - in diesem Alter noch solch eine Stimme

  • A VOICE TOUCHED BY GOD

  • I am old. And I am somewhat jaded to the music industry. But my God, that was moving. Aussies, make sure you go to every possible concert that this incredible little person is involved in. It is musical history. She is and has been (For more than 40 years) the greatest gift to the World that Australia has ever given. Thank you Oz. And thank you, my wonderful Judith.

  • 10/10

  • Gee - I saw 2 empty seats ... if only I had known!!!!! What a Lady, and what a voice!!!!!

  • She is a tiny woman but what a voice!pitch perfect, she sends shivers down my spine whenever I hear her.

  • so beautifull and touching..my thoughts turn back to the mid sixties..so many of my brothers in arms never made in out of this decade

  • amazing, i cry every time i hear her singing this song

  • what a lovely lady with a beautiful voice

  • Great to see and hear her again. She seems to be something of an institution - in the best sense - for Aussies.

  • I got to see her with the Seekers at the last ever UK Concert back in the 90's when I was 7 or 8 ish, its a night that has remained special for ever, if only more music was this careing and graceful, what a voice.

  • I was at the same concert in Wembley and loved every minute

  • What a woman what a Voice, It is a great Song, and the Memories.

  • The only thing missing from this lovely performance (if at all) is 2 guitars, a bass, and "The Boys" to play them with Judith,

  • OAM is the Order of Australia. And yes it was created to replace the British honours system in this country and is usually given on Australia Day (not sure if some maybe given on the Queens Birthday or New years Day).

  • So Sad that the group where not there too gether to sing that beautifull song.

  • Not a dry eye in my loungeroom.

  • Brilliant. Interesting to hear her rendition now and compare with the 60s video on here. The passage of time makes it even more potent.

  • Fabulous,Fabulous,Fabulous....Absolutly fabulous..Takes me way back to my childhood..Beautiful memories and happy days..Wish I had a time machine..

  • What a wonderful wonderful voice! God, leave her here with us, you have enough angels with you for now.

  • She still has that pure, sweet voice. Quite incredible for 65.

What does OAM mean? Is it like a UK CBE, OBE?

  • One of the governments (can't remember which, probably a Labor one) abolished knighthoods in Australia and a whole new structure of honours and awards was set up. OAM is one of these - the Order of Australia Medal. It's a very prestigious honour in Australia.

  • Thank you for the info.

  • Class Act all the way

    Thanks, Judith

  • Still that soaring glorious voice. And still, the girl who didn't think she was attractive is as cute as can be. I love her, man.

  • every time i hear this song it chokes me up some what

  • Just an amazing gift shared! I am going to see her at RockStock Sept 2009! Something I never thought I would get to do and that now I wont miss out on!!

  • 悅耳 足繞樑三手日

  • According to google that means "Pleasant enough on third-hand linger" :)

  • OMG she still sings so well.

  • Judith Durham with her God-given perfect pitch voice is and always will be one of the most unique and outstanding singers in the world. I could never get tired listening to her songs. Her voice is still the same as when she first sang this song way back in 1968. May God Almighty continue to bless her with good health and vitality as she shares her passion with the whole world.

  • What wonderful camera work to record this exceptional moment. I will play it over and over!

  • Wonderful golden lady with a vocal chord kissed by God!

  • Judith

    You are priceless

    Thank you

  • I like her as a gospel singer but we soon forget her with the seekers

  • Judith's voice is still the same after all those years. But better. What a wonderful Lady. Vicky Leandros is another great voice. Love to hear them sing a duet.

  • Thanks Dumaguetenonputi for your lyric.

  • When she sings " ... I will love you till I die" at the end, you can tell by her eyes she means the audience ... there's no doubt they feel the same way ... how incredible it must be to feel that!!!

  • This is really touching

  • Judith loves her fans & her fans love her back.

  • Would anyone can write me the lyric please? Thanks a lot. This song is amazing.

  • Like a drum my heart was beating

and your kiss was sweet as wine

But the joys of love are fleeting

    for Pierrot and Columbine

Now the harbour light is dawning

This will be our last goodbye

    For the Carnival is over

I will love you til I die

  • What is Pierrot and Columbine ? Love this song, I like her singing here better than the older versions.

  • Pierrot and Columbine were two clowns who focused on romance more than comedy. A third clown in the story, Harlequin, stole the heart of Columbine; and that is why their love was fleeting.

  • Thank you. I'm guessing Pierrot and Columbine are fairly well know in Austrailia. I'm from Johnstown, Pa. USA and did not know who they were. I just love Judith and the Seekers. They were , are, and will always be the best. There will never be another you.

  • Her diction is very clear, so it's really easy to pick up. The words(the second verse is repeated):

Say goodbye my own true lover

as we sing our lovers song

How it breaks my heart to leave you

    Now the carnival is gone

High above the dawn is waking

and my tears are falling rain

    for the carnival is over

    we may never meet again

  • Wow, I last saw Judith in London in 1967 when I was 17. I remember thinking how tiny she was to have such a powerful stunning voice. She still looks amazing and music is still in my soul.

  • i am a big fan of the seekers. i seek here and i seek there . but never seem to find the vocals like JD 's.she is truely a one off. my fav song of the band. rock wiz should be applauded for having an OAM on there show. thanks for this upload. very beautiful

  • I grew up with this song..well,their albums as they were a favourite of parents. I only have to hear the first word sung to know exactly who's voice it is. Judith Durham has a very unqiue and clear voice..and a wonderful heart. They really are one of the great bands..

  • I agree with you, my dad called her ' My Judith' such was his appreciation of her

  • What a voice - how humble. There aren't too many performers who can still charm an audience after such a long career. Great Australian artist.

  • 41 years on and she can still make the hairs on my neck stand up!! What a wonderful performance.Judith is and always will be my favourite singer

  • Wonderful lady and an enduring talent.

  • Thank You Australia for sharing this treasure with the world. Her beauty & her voice are timeless.

  • coooooooooor still a cracker
