Been a fan since the early 70's. this man doesn't look like he is long for this world. I can't fathom how he got so damn big, peg leg or not. Geez. Music is fantastic though.
There's no offense intended here though I can see my comments were rather strong. I've been listening to John since I was 19, I'm 53 now. He's got a beautiful soul (that was hard fought to find for sure). I love to hear him play and sing (I even play Solid Air in my jazz group sometimes), it's a little heartbreaking to see what's happened to him physically though. He used to be so tall and lean when he was a lad. Just wish he'd taken better care of his physical home, that's all.
oh yeah, and utterly unique. When I discovered John I was a young King Crimson fanatic. More of a Miles and Trane man now but John has stuck with me. Would love to see a John Martyn/Tom Waits billing someday.
Last time we spoke to him was just after he left hospital most recently there before the summer, visited him during the summer and he said "They tried to take my leg... they gave me a heart attack, try a sledgehammer next time grim reaper!!"
Ohh John John John, I'm smiling and crying at the same time. Seen him do this in Edinburgh when he was 'on his feet' and it was truly amazing. God bless.
Thanks so much for posting this (and the others) up here - Gilly and I were at this gig, probably stood just to your left, and it was THE best hour of live music we've ever seen!!!

I hate to say this, but I have never heard of this cat. Kicks ass though. Who did he play with?????

Mainly he was solo, and a legend in what he did; people mainly played on his albums and with him rather than the other way round :-)

Oi, the geezer is still here. As he would say: "I'm the driver, I chose the road".
